Tyreke Evans gets a 4yr/$44mil offer sheet from the Pelicans. Why would anyone pay this guy 11 mil a year? He is a ball dominant SG that has inflated numbers because he plays for a bad team. I bet there isn’t a PG in the league that would want to play with this guy since he needs the ball and can’t shoot.

If there’s a sign and trade for him and Vazquez ends up in Sacramento that’s gonna be the perfect situation for him. He’s gonna be the distributor on a team where a lot of guys like to shoot. His defense is a concern, but it’s not like anyone on the Kings actually plays any. I hope that changes with the new staff though.

This is like the Pistons going after Josh Smith. These young teams with bright futures try to rebuild to fast and end up overspending on players who aren’t good IQ players and ruin their rebuiliding process.

The traded fro Jru Holiday and so they wanted to upgrade their PG position (although they have a very good one) and aren’t sold that Austin Rivers can play the position (boy was he bad last year).

Tyreke Evans’ pursuit also means they are probably going to look to move Eric Gordon as previously reported. This too means that they don’t feel like Austin Rivers can play the SG position.

The sad fact is that RFA’s get paid more than they should to leave the teams they are on… I think that most teams w cap space would welcome Evan’s at around 8m/yr… thats around what stuckey gets paid and imo Evans is a better version of Stuckey. So, the result of making a market offer to Evans is Sac can retain the player they drafted at his fair market price, or extract an asset from you to work a sign and trade.

With that in mind, 11m may seem high, but they have to first out bid other teams and second make it high enough so Sacramento cannot force them to give up an asset in a sign and trade. Therefore, if you are asking the question, “why would someone pay 11m a year for Evans?” The answer is because they want him and 11m/yr is better than 9m and giving up vasquez or gordon…

Believe it or not, Evan’s decision making skills really improved this year. he shot 51% of his shots inside this year and made around 63% of those shots… that’s efficient… granted his outside shot is still poor and will likely always be poor. Though he wasn’t handling the ball as much as other players, some metrics suggest that says he was Sacramento’s best player when he was on the court.

Those are the pluses, everyone knows the negatives, what isn’t known is exactly the depth of how dysfunctional the kings franchise was last year. That franchise has not been stable for a long time and I would wager the Pelican’s front office thinks they can motivate him and inspire him to show he is not the player he was in Sacramento.
