festar35ParticipantApparently Atlanta is entertaining offers for him and despite the fact they have won 4 of the last 5 I think Millsap feels they are not going to be title contenders so may look to move on and Atlanta doesn’t want him to walk for nothing like Horford. I’ve been thinking where might be a good destination for him.
#1: Boston Celtics – Why not a reunion with Horford along with more talent than he ever had in Atlanta, Atlanta could get some young talent like Brown, Smart and Johnson to make salary fit. Future protected first rounder as well maybe.
#2: Minnesota Timberwolves – This team could really do with some vet leadership and Millsap could bring that as well as his talent. I would look for Atlanta to ask for Lavine, Dieng and 1st rounder (Aldrich would be required for salaries). Wiggins, Millsap and KAT could be a very nice trio and Thibs would enjoy having some experience on his roster. Atlanta get younger and Lavine is no doubt a talent to go with Schroeder. Dunn could start at the 2-guard spot or Rush, both offer good perimeter D but Rush has that 3-ball which may bump him ahead.
OKC, New Orleans and Portland could be nice fits, but unsure how the salary works.
Toronto and Indiana would welcome him no doubt, but they have very little to offer outside of picks.

Robb_CParticipantI dont think Atlanta takes a deal that involves Lavine, Hes not the type of player I see the Hawks targeting.
Portland is desperate for anything that resembles a capable PF, Portland also has some pieces that Atlanta would value..

BleedGreen808ParticipantNo way Boston is giving up Jaylen Brown in a package for Millsap when he can walk after the season. Not to mention since he’s opting out he will probably be asking for a 4-5yr max contract at the age of 32.

publius2481ParticipantNo way either Boston or Minn is giving that much up for a rental. Any team will be reluctant to give up major assets for half a season of a player like Milsap (and I really like him as a player). Boston makes sense as a destination. To make a trade work ATL would have to take Johnson and Young for salary purposes. Boston would probably part with one of Rozier, Mickey, or Jackson (I assume ATL would prefer draft picks over multiple of these players) and give a future first rounder (their 2018 or the Clippers 2019). ATL might also be able to get Minn 2017 second round pick in this deal, but I think that is the max they can get. Toronto is the other team that makes the most sense. They should be in win now mode. I think ATL could get Poeltl and a 2017 first rounder (either their own or the Clippers).

raymondlyfParticipantA Milsap trade will likely worth no more than a draft pick in return, to give up both Lavine and Dieng for a half a season rental looks ridiculous…

DunksNJordans23ParticipantWould the Mav’s make a move for Milsap with Dirk really hitting the wall at the end of his career? It doesn’t appear they have much, if anything to give up for him especially since they are a lottery team at the moment so flipping a first round pick for him doesn’t make sense.

The GoatParticipantThe Clips should really entertain trading Blake Griffin for Millsap (if he is willing to extend), Korver and a pick. They are not going to win as it stands. Millsap is very underrated, better defensively and from 3 than Griffin, and Korver solves their 3 man issue.

HitsterParticipantESPN mentioned Orlando, Denver and Toronto. Orlando have a load of frontcourt depth so I don’t get that. Toronto don’t have any cap space as Kyle Lowry will be looking for over $20 million plus next season and Millsap has a player option for $21.47 million next season too.
Denver is possible but they aren’t contenders and I’d assume Millsap would want to be on a relevant team.
Millsap has been in good form again this year and whilst he has never averaged over 17ppg in any season he has been a durable and consistent performer down the years and is likely to be in the mix for a 4th successive All Star game next month.
Teams won’t give up a lot for a half season rental of Millsap at his salary level and Atlanta would not want to take back extra salary. Millsap could extend or opt in before the summer but I think he might test FA market.
He will be 32 next month so a team would probably be reluctant to give him a 4 year deal but he might get a very nice 3 year deal especially if year 3 was a team option. His old Atlanta running mate Al Horford was given a very nice deal last summer to take him up to 34 so I could see Millsap certainly getting 2 years possibly 3 starting at $25 million a year.
Atlanta have a lot of salaries coming off the books this summer and if Millsap does move on will have a load of cap space to target the FA market.

Mr. HookShotParticipantIf the Raptors were somehow able to land Millsap without losing any significant quality (e.g., trade away picks, talents), their chances of beating the Cavs (which are small now) suddendly increase quite a bit. The Raptors currently own all their own draft picks, plus an additional one from the Clippers, and together with someone like like Caboclo, Ross or Siakam it could entice the Hawks in giving up Millsap.
The Raptors would then field Valanciunas – Millsap – Carroll – DeRozan – Lowry, which would be an incredible balanced team both on offense and defense, with actually a very good chance of beating the Cavs. The only downside would be that Millsap walks after this season…

The GoatParticipantI agree Hitster, Magic, Nugs and Raps dont really seem like they are real options.. but you never know. Besides teh Clips that I mentioned earlier, I’m wondering whether the Kings try get him. They are in the same position really with Rudy Gay, who said he is on the way out. Rudy could fit in Atlanta, its better than losing Millsap for nothing if thats the alternative for the Hawks. The Kings would be ecstatic to put Millsap next to Boogie. Otherwise, I’d like to see the Hornets try and package something for him.

HitsterParticipantThe Raptors have assets but it would only be a rental unless Lowry or Millsap took below market value next year.

DolanCareParticipantI don’t Toronto can think that way. They are already lock for the 2 seed, an addition of Millsap gives them a fighting chance of beating Cleveland.
Would Lowry really leave a serious contender to go to an up and coming team at his age?

kobejohn89ParticipantThe Raptors would be able to re-sign both players to max contracts if needed. No need for either to take below market value in order to have both players stay

SmooveKRYPTParticipantThe Bulls could offer Rondo, Portis + Atlanta’s choice of Gibson or Mirotic. They get a young talented big who showed flashes last year but hasn’t been able to carve out a consistent niche with the new roster this year. Rondo would be a short-term rental who, even as bad as he’s been, is an upgrade over Malcolm Delaney…he can run the 2nd unit with Korver and Hardaway Jr on the wings and Whatever combination of bigs Bud wants to use at the time. Although he’s not a perfect fit in their offense with his tendency to hold the ball, I think he can be worked in and used only to his strengths just like Dwight has been. Portis gives them a young controlable piece who plays tough and still has room for improvement.
For Chicago they get Rondo out of their hair and add a piece who makes them tougher to defend come playoff time. Milsap is a great fit next to Lopez and can give the offense a little more spacing than it currently has. They have a short window and are already a long shot in Chicago, with the GM on the hot seat already, I could see them trying to shake it up and take a swing here.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantAtlanta would have to really believe in portis to make that deal. No way Atlanta would want rondo. Maybe if Chicago were willing to part with Denzel Valentine and mirotic Atlanta would bite but that seems like a pretty steep price to pay for a guy that could be a rental and still probably wouldn’t put them over the top in the East. I just don’t see it happening.

HitsterParticipantBoston have those two Euro guys who they stashed at 16 and 23 last summer if they wanted to put either or both into play along with Amir and another to get salaries to get the salaries to meet.
