christebasParticipantGasol has offically signed with the Bulls but it will require that Carlos Boozer is amnestied. Is Gasol really that much of an upgrade over Boozer? Let’s assume that Rose is healthy in the coming season and there’s no further injury to the Bulls core. Are they a contender with Gasol over Boozer? I don’t really see where this move makes sense. Boozer was 14/8 last year and is 33 while Gasol was 17/9 on a horrible Laker team where he was the focal point as Kobe missed much of the season. Gasol turns 35 next year, so why would the Bulls swap Gasol for Boozer. It is that much of an upgrade? The Bulls could of went after Ariza and likely landed him. Gezz, how badly will the Laker be next year and they don’t even have their number 1 (top 5 protected) to the Suns. How far can Kobe take them even at 100 percent? 30 wins? I suppose Randel wll help but there’s not much talent on that team.

TRC1991ParticipantFor once, just ONCE, I had hoped that Chicago would let Taj Gibson prove what he can do if given the starting job -___-

christebasParticipantHe still may prove it. The Bulls didn’t need Gasol and could of dumped Boozer and went after other FAs’ where they have a need. I guess they think Noah and Gasol give them an elite front line? I just don’t see it.. And 5 years in the making, yes, Gibson is a beast and he’ll have to prove it again after the Bulls overpaid for Gasol

TarHeelRavenParticipantI think Pau is a major upgrade over Boozer. Pau when healthy and motivated is one of, if not the most skilled big men in the game. I know he has to be happy to get out of the mess in Los Angeles and be playing for a contender again.

bobbybParticipantI agree that Pau isnt a huge upgrade at PF. Pau is now a Center, no more PF. Look at his 2013-2014 (C) #’s compared to 2012-2013 (PF) #s

HitsterParticipantPau gives them an outside presence which Boozer didn’t but I would have to question is he worth amnestying Boozer for unless the Bulls can work a sign and trade with the Lakers. The Bulls own all their picks and got one from Cleveland with the Deng/Bynum trade I recall so they could offer the Lakers something to do an S and T and then maybe look to dump Boozer nearer deadline day.
Teams like Philly will need to get up to minimum cap level so they might take someone like Boozer for a 4 month rental to get up to cap next summer. The Lakers are not going to rebuild via the draft but with their 2015 and 2017 first rounders already traded away they probably need assets to use in trades to rebuild in due course.

MopgrassParticipantIf I’m the Lakers, I’d do anything to get a 1st draft pick out of this. People feel like the Lakers are over and that probably changes when Kobe and his contact go away. They have zero bench signed beyond Kendall Marshall and Jordan Clarkson. How did they lose Bazemore? This is their starting lineup:
PG Jeremy Lin SG Kobe Bryant SF Nick Young PF Julius Randle C Jordan Hill
Frankly, if everyone was healthy, their is enough talent to make playoffs with that lineup… maybe. Even though Nick Young is on it. But if they fill their bench with nobodys, they may have a shot at keeping their 2015 pick by landing in the top 5 in the lottery.

2quick4uParticipantyou can’t be serious saying pau is not a major upgrade.. boozer is a joke compared to him, ask the spurs, thunder or knicks, they were dying to sign him.. pau is a key factor for any team that aspires to win a championship.
he chose the bulls because he loves challenges.. the spurs or the thunder would have been the easy choice for him and any of those 2 teams with pau would make them the best team in the league. but he prefered to go to a second tier team, a good team with a good project and a good coach that with him they have a chance to be champions..
pau is been dealing with injuries the last 2 years. in 2012-2013 his numbers went down not because he was playing PF next to howard but because that season he could barely move. last year felt better but still was playing with pain.
now he’s finally feeling better and if pau is healthy he is a difference maker…don’t be surprise if he makes the all-star .. if healthy, he is the most skilled and reliable big man in the post right now.
and the bulls need badly someone who can create his own shot and score in the low post. noah can’t score and gibson can’t create his own shot. boozer could score some but not in the low post.
so yes, pau is a major upgrade over boozer and if the bulls have any chance to win the title it will be because of pau..

BiggaveliiiParticipantgasol is perfect in this system unselfish, way better than Boozer, him and Noah down low good sign. i actually thought that if Melo signed to the Bulls, Rose was gone have less of an impact, but with Gasol an unselfish big, paired with another selfish big, and you still keep jimmy butler and taj gibson.

r377ParticipantIt is going to be even more crowded in the front court now—–report—–
Nikola Mirotic will sign a three-year, $17 million deal with the Bulls now that he has secured a buyout from Real Madrid in Spain.

GrandmamaParticipantGasol is 100% an upgrade over Boozer, and there isn’t any debate. People don’t realize how bad Boozer is. As a Bulls fan I know damn well how bad he is. Zero defense, average rebounder, can’t finish around the rim, super soft, only move offensively is a 15 foot fadeaway. There’s a reason he never played in the 4th quarter for the Bulls, he isn’t good.
