surveParticipantDeshawn Painter is leaving NC State to be close to his ailing mother and grandmother. Painter was a key player for the Pack this year and his departure leaves a void in the frontcourt which could further expand should CJ Leslie not return. I am a UNC fan but have always been sentimental towards State as I am from Raleigh. (I nearly decided to attend college there and partied many times over the years there). I am hoping that this transfer paves the way for Amile Jefferson to commit. They would rely on him heavily for minutes. With or without Leslie.
Jaqawn Raymond is also leaving. He barely saw daylight this year and was likely to see even less playing behind the rotation of Brown, Purvis, Wood, and Lewis.

gopack10ParticipantAs a diehard State fan I could see the writing on the wall wtih Raymond. He was a holdover recruit from the Sidney Lowe era and was clearly the odd man out when it came to our guard rotation. He is a solid player and one heck of an athlete but he will be better served in a different situation where he can get the playing time that will allow his game to develop. I wish him luck wherever he lands.
Painter’s situation is completely different. He is transferring back home a la Elliot Williams to be closer to his ailing father. Old Dominion or Norfolk State are his two likely destinations. The loss of Painter will hurt us but I think that it puts us in a good position to land Amile like you said but also to land the JUCO PF Andrew Young. Both of those guys will be around multiple years so it could be a blessing in disguise if we were to land those guys since we would have lost Painter after this year either way, along with Howell and Leslie.
I wish both guys nothing but the best.
