The Pacers don’t feel comfortable going into next season with their current roster. That’s why team officials want to make a trade for the first time in nearly two years. The two players they’re trying to move are T.J. Ford and Mike Dunleavy, according to sources

The problem the Pacers are running into with Dunleavy is that he’ll make $10.5 million next season and there are concerns about whether he can regain his touch from the 2007-08 season when he averaged 19.1 points and shot nearly 48 percent from the field.

Word is Dunleavy’s having an impressive offseason working out in New York

The Pacers have a received a number of calls about Troy Murphy, but they’re reluctant to move the double-double player because of the uncertainty surrounding the health of Jeff Foster and Tyler Hansbrough, according to a source. Murphy is more likely to be moved at the trade deadline if those two players are healthy.

All according to the Indianapolis Star

    What are your ideas?

    Target these players.

    Bayles/Mills/or Johnson from Portland

    Collison from New Orleans

    Calderon from Toronto

They need somebody to run the show at that 1 position. A PG is vital in the Pacers system.

t.j is a cancer and dunleavy doesnt do much other than jack up horrendous shots and turn the ball over. good luck unloading 10.5 mill on a 6’8 jump shooter who can’t defend of rebound. I wouldn’t mind murphy on my team though, atleast he can rebound.

I agree with “fgrrghg” no team is going to jump at Dunleavey’s salary and nobody wants a cancer in the locker room. The only way to get rid of players is to package them with deseriable players. I cant for the life of me understand why Troy Murphy hasnt been packaged with them.

Ind fails to realize they are a rebuilding team. Right now they are in that state of limbo where then cant obtain a top 5 pick cuz their record is too good. One the same token they are not good enough to make the playoffs or make it out of the first rd in the east. You gotta go south first to go north.

Trade Murphy and let Hibbert develop. Give him all he can handle and find out if he can be a starting center who can handle a full year (you cant teach size). Do the same with Hansborough your other lottery pick. Obtain a legit PG (Calderon) for Troy Muprhy and TJ Ford (oh the irony of this trade). Let Paul George play, lets see if he is a Danny Granger in the making. The other side of this is try to dump salary. Get ride of your bad contracts and take the “Eric Dampiers” of the world. For God sake make a move! Dont just sit there and expect things to turn around.

Finally let your team be bad. Except it. Look at what the Thunder have done and what the Nets are doing.

You gotta go south to go north.

TJ Ford isn’t a cancer in the locker room lol.

The problem was that he lost the trust of the coaching staff and his teammates with his poor play and lack of focus on the defensive end. He spent time in O’Brien’s doghouse and on the IR this past season. He played well towards the end of the season though.

He can still play. He’s still a decent starter or very good backup in the NBA.

I think the Pacers are on the right track to be honest. I think they should be able to get someone. I think they should look at David West.

Hold on, I’m working the trade machine as we speak lol.

Honestly, it seems like Dunleavy is done.

Watching him come back last year after the knee injury was painful-he was about 30% of the player he was two years ago, but I guess he can still shoot and has a big-ol’ expiring contract, so he is a decent trading chip.

That 20 ppg season was a fluke anyway to me. That was a monster year for him that I think was out of nowhere. He’s a true 14 ppg scorer at best to me on a good team.

I hope the Pacers can get a deal for this… It’s a tough deal on paper because nobody would want to take a contract that big for a guy who gets injured a lot… TJ Ford and Mike Dunleavy are solid players when healthy but I think we all know that it’s time for a fresh start for the Pacers… They are close to being unwatchable… Their only player that excites me is Granger and not much else…

i think knicksboys idea is a good one for the pacers.

dunleavy and leja are both expiring and dahntya jones equals ot the salary for those two so it basically a wash unless they really want to keep dahntay jones around.

So now it is basically hibbert, stephenson and a future first for collison and west. I think that is a solid move for indiana.

not saying t.j is a lockerroom cancer, although I can’t imagine him being too positive. Look at him on the court.. if he doesnt get his touches he is whining at the coaches.. whines at the refs on every play.. yells at his teamates. I hated t.j in toronto and i’m so happy we got rid of him. The guy has real talent too, he just consistently gets in the coaches doghouse and cant get out due to his poor attitude

Alot of you act like the Pacers contracts are untouchable, like Brand, or Arenas. Every contract on Indiana’s Roster that is committed for more than $2.5 Million is expiring aside from Granger’s 4 year $50 Million contract.

(Funny how Granger`s contract averages 12.5 per year and Gay’s is a Max).

    Depths

    Nohla

    Paul – free agent
    Stephenson – Thorton
    Posey – Jones – Dunleavey
    Okafor – Brackins – Wright
    Hibbert – Songailla – Gray

    Or

    Paul – Stephenson
    Thorton – Jones
    Posey – Wright – Dunleavey
    Okafor – Brackins – Wright
    Hibbert – Songailla – Gray

    Indy

    Collison – Price – Ford
    George – Rush
    Granger – Peja – Dunleavey
    West – Murphy – Hansbrough
    Foster – Jones – Hansbrough

    Can we make it

Collison, Okafor, and Peja for Jones or Rush, Hibbert, Stephenson, Dunleavey, and the right to swap picks and a 2nd rounder

Okafor can play both Center and Powerforward which would let Murphy and Okafor play together

Indys line up with my trade

    Collison – Price – Ford
    George – Rush or Jones
    Granger – Peja
    Murphy – Hansbrough – Okafor
    Okafor – Foster – Jones

Nohla line up with my trade
    Paul – Stephenson
    Thorton – Rush or Jones
Posey – Wright – Dunleavey (could see him just cut)
    West – Brackins – Wright
    Hibbert – Songailla – Gray

If I was the Pacers I would suck up the losing for this coming year and clear the books and see what free agency brings instead of bringing other teams “fodder” in return.

    2011 UNRESTRICTED

    Mike Dunleavy Jr.
    T.J. Ford
    Jeff Foster
    Solomon Jones
    Josh McRoberts
    Troy Murphy

Indiana is a bad team that is going nowhere anytime soon. The best they can hope for is to swap out their bad contracts for that of another team. Do they want to turn T.J. Ford and Solomon Jones into Eddy Curry? Do they want to swap out a broken down Dunleavy and Ford for a broken down Michael Redd?

If they end up with a rotation like

    Stephenson, Price
    Jones, Rush
    Granger, George
    Murphy, Hansbrough
    Hibbert, Foster

they’ll be looking at a top five pick next June.

I can almost gaurentee that Toronto would accept any of those expiring contracts for Calderon (with the acception of maybe T.J. Ford).
