Any thoughts on the PAC 12 losing USC and UCLA to the Big 10 starting in 2024? I’m a little sad saying it looks like the PAC 12 might not exist in a few years… On the other hand, Big 12 is tinkering with maybe a few teams from the PAC12 and maybe even a merger. I like the competition factor, but Idk if having 18 teams or even more in 1 conference is the answer either… Things are changing.

Idk, money and expansion of Conferences… that is terrible. But the Big 10 would be way tough with UCLA and USC suddenly in the mix. And a Big 12/PAC 12 would almost have to happen for the Big 12 to compete. Seems like the NCAA is going power conference crazy. The best prospects are trending towards other avenues other than the NCAA. As bad as it might be for the game – it would be good for the top prospect in a super conference. Kind of salty though… It all started a few days ago when UCLA and USC announced they’re going to the Big 10 in 2024. Then the domino rumblings occurred. Either way, gotta embrace the new.

College presidents have never been able to see the forest through the trees. All the realignments, and all the costs associated with turning conferences into near national entities, are almost entirely a result of FBS 1-A college football never having a proper postseason tournament. Every other sport, and every other level of college football, has a tournament. All these power plays stem from protecting a bowl system that has been dying for decades, and soon will be in the grave. The Big Ten just knifed the Rose Bowl, and that was really the only bowl with real charm. Now, they are going to start to negotiate a tournament with limited access, which only makes future realignment an inevitability. If there was a 16 or 32 team tournament, there would be no need for Oregon to try to get to the Big Ten. If there was a 16 or 32 team tournament, there would be a football version of Gonzaga, or certainly a Baylor, Villanova or Virginia who emerge after lesser histories to compete for titles. College football exists as it does because of the infrastructure of the sport, and the people in charge don’t realize how incredibly inefficient it is. It is a shame. The idea of a USC or UCLA basketball player or soccer player having to spend between 7-10 hours on a plane followed by buses to and from the airport to the college town every other week for months is absurd. It might be fun for an Iowa or Minnesota fan to take a snowbird trip to LA to see their basketball team in the middle of the winter, but it makes life much more difficult for the players and coaches involved. It also doesn’t really up the quality of competition in any sport but football. In basketball, the Pac 12 has programs rise and fall like the Big Ten, but is generally strong because LA, SF, Phoenix, Seattle, Portland, and Denver always have players coming through. This isn’t going to change now that UCLA and USC are gone.

That’s a good point, football runs the funds and shift conferences… That is where ideas started.
