Don’t know who else watched it, but it was a great game. Washington won by 4, but it was back and forth the whole way. I have no idea who held the lead longer. Way back when this season started, these two teams were both ranked top 15 in America and while they had their bumps, they both finished it the way they were expected to. I’ve been saying for weeks that washington was better then people were giving them credit for and now they proved it. 24-9, 12-2 over last 14 games, pac 10 champs, 3-2 vs rpi top 20 teams. Don’t sleep on this team.

Cal is 23-10 and has one of the most explosive perimiter trios in the country. Both squads are gonna be tough outs.

Another stellar prediction on my part haha… I said the Huskies would win the Pac 10 tourney.

I’m not sure how either team will do in the big dance though. Just depends on the matchups.  They both have the talent to make it to the Sweet 16 & possibly the elite 8 if they get hot.

yeah, i predicted it as well. Just felt they wanted it a little more then cal and they have length with guys like mathew amanning, justin holiday and Pondexter that made it tough around the basket or cals perimter players. Randle got nothing easy on the way to the basket. Im really curious to see which team gets a higher seed. I think they are both in the 7-8 range.

Good win by Washington..I said they’d have to win the tourny to get in, now they have. They wanted this one it seemed.

I think Washington will be anywhere from 8th-11th seeds but Cal will be a 4th or 5th. Not really high on either one getting out of the 1st weekend of the tourny, neither are tough enough on D.

    Cal will get the higher seed I think….probably a 7 or 8.

    Washington more like a 10 or 11.

    Just guessing.

I would hate to be a 6 seed & have to play an 11th seeded Washington team 1st round…

i know wash has been on the bubble, but 11th seed?

They went 10-2 out of conerence with a win over texas AM and the two losses being close single digit defeats to Georgetown and texas tech. They had a real tough start to conference play and were 2-5 at one point in the pac 10, but turned it around and won 12 of the last 14 games. They took 2 of 3 from cal and also had a win over ASU. I don’t think this game today was a fluke at all. Washington has 3 gaurds in Thomas, Overton and Gaddy who can pentrate at will and they have a deep team with lots of size and length. If they get a 11 seed, then some 6 seed is gonna be pissed.

Abdul Gaddy isn’t very good right now and Overton isn’t anything really special, other than being the best on-ball defender Washington has. And he’s like 5’10.” Thomas can score very well, but what exactly does he do on defense? Who does he create shots for?

Washington beat Texas A&M, yea that’s cool. But they lost to Texas Tech, and their only other wins vs a team that’s tourny worthy is Cal. I’m not impressed by them that much. Yea they have some exciting players, but they don’t defend well and they don’t have the most efficient guard play, which you’ll need in the half-court heavy tourny.

They could be anywhere from 8th-11th though, 11th is the absolute worst. I doubt hey get seeded that low considering they won their conference.

i have no idea if they will go far or not. But i think you are underestimating their depth. They play 9-10 guys every game. Elston Turner is there best shooter and hit numerous shots today. Justin Holiday(Jrue’s older brother) is arguably just as good a defender as Overton. Ammanning and Gant are both solid bigs who can run the court. Pondexter does a bit of everything. The reason they are inconsistent is because they rely too much on dribble penetration and they can get cold from the outside. Thomas and Overton are both inconsistent and Gaddy is down right broke on his jumper. But those 3 gaurds can all handle the rock and push it in transition and break down any full court press.

As for their record, they might not have played very many good teams, but they did get all of those out of conference wins taken care of that they were supposed to. In conference, i’ve been saying the pac 10 is down as much as anybody, but people might be going a little overboard with the bashing. There really wasn’t one terrible team. UCLA was the only team to have a losing non conference record and they improved greatly. Wash St finished last, and they were like 11-1 out of conference.

Im not just hugging the pac because ive said it was terribel from day one and i was saying all along that ASU did not impress me or deserve to get in. But Washingotn is a legit team, sleep on them at your own risk.

They haven’t lost to teams they shouldn’t have? That’s your argument? Alot of teams can say that. Miami and Texas Tech both were good in non-conference, Miami was undefeated for a while and they are terrible in the ACC. Texas Tech was in the top 25 for a week or so after there hot start in the nonconference, but they’re one of the 3 worst Big 12 teams. Most high-major teams have a winning record in the non-conference schedule. Washington had a pretty soft non-conference schedule anyway, with 3 tourny teams, and they only beat 1 of them (Texas A&M).

There is no need to discuss how weak the Pac-10 is, and the fact that they’ve lost 7 games in that conference should tell you alot about the type of team they are. They aren’t that good a team. They have some people on their bench, but they aren’t that good. They have inefficient guards, unimpressive wins, and they having even come close to showing any signs of dominance in a weak conference.

well actually i pointed out numerous things them taking care of business against weak teams being one of them. Is that not a legit statement? I don’t care if other teams did that or not, it doesn’t change the fact that is a legit statement. And you say they lost 2 non conference games to tourney teams? Georgetown and who else? Tech is not a tourney team. Im not sure what you mean by inefficient gaurds. Thomas can drop points on anyone, overton is a lock down defender. If by innefficient you mean they don’t always shoot a high percentage, then i guess we agree, But there is lot more to being efficient then just shooting percentage.

    24-9
    Pac 10 champs
    3-2 vs rpi top 20
a senior leader who could be a first round draft pick
    depth

Like i said, sleep on them if you want. We discussed them a month ago and you said they didn’t deserve to even get in the tournament.

Them beating weak teams isn’t a legit statement at all. Not when trying to say they can be a dangerous tourny team…How are they dangerous? They have more bad losses then quality wins.

And by inefficient yes, I do mean they shoot low percentages, have low assist turnover ratios. Thomas can score, but he shoots 41% from the field. And for someone to attempt 181 3’s and shoot 32% is terrible. And he gets 2 apg? At 5’8? Abdul Gaddy is weak and not at all polished enough, and Overton isn’t even a true PG yet leads Washington in apg. And he only gets 3 a game!…He’s also a 5’10” defensive specialist who’s the only good perimeter defender on Washington’s team. Nothing about there guards bodes well for them in the tourny, other than Thomas getting 30 points on 30 shots.

All of this is irrelevant anyway. They aren’t going to win a title, and that should be the goal. No need for me to argue over a team that just got off the bublle. Bubble teams never make it far anyway. I’d admit I was wrong if they won more than 1 game in the tourny.

well its all good, we disagree on them then. Im not sure they get past the first weekend either. But they are a very dangerous team and i think an 11 seed would be a very poor slot considering how they finished 12-2 with one of those losses being to cal who is borderline top 25. They have weaknesses like all teams in america, but i’ll take that backcourt any day so im not sure why you are so down on the gaurds. 3 Guys who can push the ball, get in the lane, defend and create their own shot is pretty darn dangerous in the tournament.
