Michael.S.ParticipantOK since I wanna spark an arguement, does anyone think Dwyane Wade has overrated athleticism and also maybe speed. My reason why, To me Dwyane Wade doesn’t really get up that high and people call him flash while i don’t see it. His vert. was measured at 35 in the combine , which is good but definitely not great for a Sg, especially for 6’4, I think his strength and body control helps him finish more so then his hops. And with his speed, he get’s to the basket at will yes but i don’t think th only reason why is just he is soo indredibly quick, he is a great slasher and finds the open lane in the D, he is also goodat splitting the double team on a pick and roll to get right to the front of the rim, not to mention he has a nice crossover.
am i wrong?

BasketballGuru24ParticipantI think what gives him this athletic title is his handles. The guy really knows how to handle the ball and is very explosive. His first step is to fast for the naked eye and he rises at a fast pace, and knows how to control the ball in the air……unlike guys like ben wallace lol.
As far as his athletic ablilities be overrated……i don’t think you can say that. He has more assets that increase his overall game. This came with practice, so that pretty much means he is not overrated in his athletic ability. But at the same time i can name enough players more athletic Then him .

QHaynes20No, your not wrong. I think everything you said is 100% correct to be honest.

Michael.S.Participantlol. thanks Q i was starting to think i was alone on this.

MagikKnickParticipantIt depends on your definition of athleticism…
Like Iggy said, its deeper than how high you can jump

JNixonParticipantDwyane is not an overrated athlete. He can start and stop without any problems, he has a top end speed thats on an elite level, he can hang in the air for a long time and he’s very quick and he’s also a long strider. Athleticism is more than being able to jump high. It’s about being able to stop and start, run fast, and jump high. Brandon Roy has a 41 inch vertical, but he is in no way an elite athlete, and Eddie House had a 39 inch vert but he has never been considered a good athlete.

Michael.S.Participant1 question what does winning the scoring title have anything to do with my post.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/30/2009 - 10:24am #207818
cprizz15Participanthes athletically superior to most of his competition.. which leads to most of his scoring.. not his jumpshot. but if he has “overrated athleticism” why is he so nice?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/30/2009 - 10:31am #207824
Michael.S.ParticipantI said his athleticism is overrated IMO , I didn’t say it’s below avg. or avg. , just not elite .
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/30/2009 - 10:35am #207826
cprizz15Participantits dumb.. you can be that good with average athleticism and an average jumpshot. you gotta do more than just read about players.. like maybe watch their games
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/30/2009 - 10:38am #207827
Michael.S.ParticipantHow about……….STFU…………..like maybe………..hop off

Michael.S.ParticipantYou make absolutely 0 sense…………don’t you learn from other people posting?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/30/2009 - 10:50am #207833
cprizz15Participantbut i guess if he isnt fast than lebron cant jump.. theres no argument to be had. iguodala pretty much hit everything right on the head.

Michael.S.ParticipantObviously your a Wade fan……..and right when you saw this you gotta be an azz
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/30/2009 - 11:05am #207837
cprizz15Participanti just respect him. im a knick fan and i like to root for the blazers (broy is my dude).. maybe you can say what you did in 4 or 5 years but wade is in the prime of his career and im just gonna say it d wade is an athletic freak, he has complete control over his body in the air and when on the floor, his name is flash for a reason(hes really fast), he might have the quickest first step in the league, he weaves in and out of defenders like theyre standing still, and if you let him get in the paint just put two points on the board cause hell finish over, around or on anybody and everybody.. i never really argued with anybody on this site and when i pick one topic you get all emotional..

llperezI think Wade is a great athlete. He’s a blur in the open court, he gets good lift on his jumpers, and even has a nice fadeaway. He dunks on people and blocks shots. I could imagine him excelling at just about any sport he put his mind to.
The vertical is a little misleading. I remember everyone saying Jordan Farmar wasn’t an nba level athlete coming out of UCLA, then he had the second highest vertical at the combine with 41 inches.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/30/2009 - 12:00pm #207846

sheltwon3ParticipantWade is a super athlete and if you watch him play you can easily see that. You can not look at rookie measurement to accurately measure athleticism also if you did that would be like saying Farmar is more athletic than Wade and if you watch game that is not even close to the truth

Michael.S.ParticipantCan you guys read the whole post before you complain that all im basing this on is his vert. ?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/30/2009 - 2:06pm #207906

thunderforthewinParticipant35 inches is 35 inches
still a very good vertical0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/30/2009 - 2:09pm #207908

Im Your FatherParticipantI think people who do well athletically at the combine are overrated. Monta Ellis tested horribly at the combine, and he’s dunking all over people in the NBA. Jordan Farmar tested out to have a 41 inch vertical I believe, and when you watch him play, he looks bellow average athletically. This year Wayne Ellington tested out to have a better vertical leap than Gerald Henderson. After watching the two play, no way would you say that Ellington is even In Henderson’s league athletically.

quincey hodgesas far as athletisim no he is not overrated. youre right he doesnt jump as high as some other people but when you add in his ability to get to the rim his speed foot work and long arms and agressiveness then he doesnt have to have a real high vert. deandre jordan has overrated athletisim though
0 - Posted on: Thu, 09/03/2009 - 9:31am #209610

JNixonParticipantDeAndre Jordan is a great athlete. He actually is a phenomenal athlete, have you seen some of his finishes? And how he feels the lane with he runs the floor? He also is a player with an underwhelming vertical, but he is a freak on the floor. Very few bigs have his speed, quickness, and leaping ability.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 09/03/2009 - 1:13pm #209660

GoJOSH HUESTISParticipanthave you seen him play?..his foot speed is slow from side to side..which is why although he dunks alot he has pretty poor foot work and doesnt block as much as he should
