NYKnicksuperFanParticipantI know I’m going to have more people disagreeing than agreeing but give me your opinions here are some of mine
overated
Sam Dalembert-shot blocking is the most overated stat in the game especially when u cant hit a 7-foot jumper
Anderson Varejao
Josh Smith- just because he’s a super athlete doesnt mean he’s a superstar
Jason Richardson-all those dunk contest makes people think he’s a very good player instead of a decent one, i’m probably wrong but i dont think he’s ever been to the playoffs
Chris Kaman
Caron Butler- he has injuries and has to pick up the slack after arenas went down but he is not as good as people say
Rudy Gay-this was the year he was supposed to develop into a star-didnt happen
Jeff Green-overated because the media likes saying he’s part of the next “big 3” which is ridiculous
J.R. Smith- if he played in a slower offense for a coach who actually cared about D he might average 8ppg less
Gerald Wallace-out of everyone on the list i know theleast about him maybe u guys can fill me in on whats his deal, every trade deadline all i hear is “Gerald Wallace,Gerald Wallace,Gerald Wallace” and how he can turn a team into a championship contender yet i never hear about him otherwise, never see his highlihts on sportcenter and his team is awfulunderated
Devin Harris-one of the best young guards in the league my choice for NBA’s fastest player
Wilson Chandler-plays for a terrible team but still vey good
Andre Miller-actuall bit of a down year for him but still played on a team of ballhogs
Rashard Lewis-maybe best shooting bigs in game gets overshadowed by Dwight Howard
Camby-had is problems with injuries but when healthy one of the best defensive bigs in the game
Tony Parker-If you ask people to name the best 5 pg’s in the game theyll say Paul, D-will,Rondo, Nash, and Rose in my mind TP is second only behind Paul
Jason Kidd- read above than factor the fact he took a mediocre team to back to back finals, is 7th on the all-time assist list and a lock HOF and he’s still criminally overated even in his mid thirties
Trevor Ariza- defensive stopper probably the 7th or 8th man on his team yet LA wouldnt be where they are without him
Kurt Thomas-old and slow but he still manages to take the load off Duncan
Kevin Martin-plays on worst team on league hardly anybody knows him but when paired with Blake Griffin they will0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 3:52pm #149300
nthegoodlifeParticipantHe brings hustle and hard work. He’s also a great defender, on top of that he has high averages for steals and blocks. He’s that piece that many teams could use. He’s just not a super star, which is what Charlotte seems to think he can be.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 4:00pm #149308

jdubsram-13ParticipantI think Gerald Wallace is a solid player. He can play multiple positions on both ends of the floor. Agree with Caron Butler, Trevor Ariza and Tony Parker( he is definitely better than Rondo playoffs or not). Devin Harris is probably the one that stands out most though because he is very talented, great trade for NJ to get him.
Disagree with Kevin Martin because all I hear is how he is a top 25 player when he is a top 15 or so PPG player only because he has to and can score on the Kings.I would have to add Paul Pierce to Overrated because if you replace him with even Gerald Wallace, I am pretty sure the Celtics wouldve won the Championship( KG deserved finals MVP-Most consistent Double-Double guy). Might have to add Bynum to Overrated too because of all the hype he has then gets hurt.
Very good post.

D HampParticipantLet me be the first to say Amare Stoudamire is vastly overated. The most overated player in the NBA today. His rebounding numbers are nowhere near where they should. He has something close to a 45 inch verticle and he’s never averaged 10 rebounds in a season. He’s a ball hog and plays no defense (neither does his teammates). He can shoot out to 17 feet. However, there was a reason Shaq and not Amare was the go to guy this year.
Nthegoodlife. I like how you think. I’ve said for two years that Wallace was the most UNDERATED because he’s so unselfish.
D Hamp…. the most intelligent basketball mind in the world. Next to Hubie Brown.

nthegoodlifeParticipantHubie Brown. haha

blackflash234ParticipantRamon Sessions
Hedo Turkoglu
Antawn Jamison
Paul Millsap
Deron Williams0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 4:20pm #149320
michaelds911ParticipantI like the list except for two things….
1) J.R. Smith isn’t overrated, he does a really impressive job for the limited minutes he get. The only problem I have with him is that he doesn’t commit to defense even though he has the athletic tools to be a lock-down guy.
2) I think Rudy Gay would have blossomed even more, but him combined with O.J. “everybody calls him a point guard, but only averages 3 assist and shoots 16 shots a game” Mayo isn’t the best combo. They clash big time on the court.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 4:27pm #149322
michaelds911ParticipantYou did not just say that if the Celts would have had Gerald Wallace they still would have won. Pierce hit big shot after big shot to keep them alive. Wallace is good, but he doesn’t have that “it” factor to battle with LeBron and win, like Pierce did. His offensive game has too many holes to be a factor during crunch time.

kotyParticipantHow can allstars like Devin Harris, Rashard Lewis, and Tony Parker, as well as future hall of famers such as Jason Kidd and Tim Duncan, be underrated?
Also, Rudy Gay averages 18.9-5.5-1.7 i dont see how that makes him overrated?0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 4:42pm #149329
michaelds911ParticipantHe is just stating that they don’t get the love that other guys, who aren’t that good, do.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 4:47pm #149331

HaleParticipantNo one ever talks about R. Gay so he is definitely not overrated. Love the Ramon Sessions post, he can really fill up the stat sheet when he gets his minutes. Overrated I think Greg Oden. He is all hype from going number 1. Nate Robinson is vastly underrated as weel, the dude can shoot and we all know he can flat out fly.

llperezLooking at your list of players, I have to say they are pretty much rated where they belong. How are guys like Verajao, Dalembert and Kaman overrated? It’s not like anyone is calling them great players. Also, Gay and Green are both significantly better then you seem to think. No they are not all-stars, but no one has said they were.
As far as the underrated list, how are Parker and Harris underrated? they made the all-star team. While discussing Kidd, all you bring up is what he did in the past, which is why he is considered a HOF’er, but today he ain’t that good. Camby showed how underrated he was when Denver became a significantly better team without him. I live in Sac and believe when I tell you that Kevin Martin is overrated if anything. He put’s up points but usually on broken plays or when the defense is caught sleeping. He is not a go to type of guy and he brings nothing to the table other then scoring. Kurt Thomas is considered a solid role player and und unless you know something I don’t, that is exactly what he is.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 5:36pm #149351

jdubsram-13ParticipantPaul Pierces stats included a high of 38 pts, 6 reb(twice), and 10asts while averaging 21.8ppg 4.5 rpg 6.3apg. KG had highs of 26 pts, 14 reb(3 times), 5asts and averaged 18.2ppg 13rpg 3apg. PP lows included 6 pts 3 reb and 2 asts. KG lows included 13 pts( twice-PP 6pts one game, 38 the other) 11 reb and 0 asts. Not to mention the defensive play and leadership. PP played 32 mins when he scored 6 pts, and if he guarded Kobe he gave up 36 pts that is a -30 in +/-, although I doubt he did. All I was trying to say was that KG shouldve been Finals MVP due to his consistency on both ends of the floor, take him off the team and they would be the same as this year, barely holding onto a 7th seed.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 5:55pm #149354

kolds1028ParticipantI think Rajon Rondo is the most overrated player in the league by far. He is a great athlete and thats seriously about all. He makes horrible decisions with ball at times, he airballs free throws, and opposing point guards don’t even guard him outside of the lane. There is no way this guy should even be being mentioned with the top point guards in the NBA. If he were on the Bucks or some other bad team we wouldn’t even be wasting our breathe on him.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 6:05pm #149357
michaelds911ParticipantOkay, you can make the KG for MVP argument, but they would definitely not be the same team if they had Gerald Wallace. They probably would of gotten beat by the Bulls, but once again, Paul Pierce hit big shot after big shot.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 6:08pm #149358

llperezI know his stats are impressive, but Rondo is so overrated in my book. He can’t shoot worth crap. Defenses are able to play off him and dare him to shoot. He has benefitted from playing with great players and now his confidence is sky high. Put him on a average team and he would fade into mediocrity quick.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 6:30pm #149362
blancs50ParticipantOver rated
M. Redd – Great Shooter and that is all
C. Boozer – When he came out of Duke I thought he was going to be a tough defensive power forward who posts up. Now he is a pick and popper that plays no defense.
Chris Duhon – Back up point guard who starts
Derek Fisher – had his Heyday, but playing Aaron Brooks has exposed his age and lack of quickness.
Shawn Marion – Completely dependent on his athleticism which is fading.
Luke Ridnour – Why does he keep getting chances???
Underrated
Walter Herrman – Fabio look alike, but every time he gets minutes with Charlotte or Detroit good things seemed to happen
Damian Wilkins – Plays D and can shoot the three. Solid 2.
Sergio Rodriguez – If he can get a coach who does not care about D (D’Antoni), could really blossom and display his amazing court vision
Joel Przybilla – Out plays Oden every night, but gets no love from the media
Ramon Sessions – Puts up amazing numbers when given minutes. > Ridnour
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 6:40pm #149363

llperezNot sure I agree with your underrated list, but I concur with your overrated list 100%. As a Laker fan, I’m looking forward to the day we have a pg who does’nt get exposed defensively all the time. Also, having watched the Lakers bounce Utah the past 2 seasons, I have been very unimpressed with Boozer. His numbers are a lot better then his actual impact on the game. I still scratch my head why the Knicks seem so content with Duhon as the pg. He is nothing spectacular and does’nt even shoot that consistently.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 7:38pm #149370

butidonthavemoneyblackflash234 has the best list so far.
Hedo and D-Will don’t get enough love. How has Deron Williams not been an all-star yet?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 05/10/2009 - 9:47pm #149377
blancs50ParticipantI love me some Lakers as well, and really hope that either Brown and Farmar can develop into a strong pg tandem (Brown for strong, athletic pgs and Farmar for quick, nimble ones). I tried to make an underrated list of players that the casual fan has never really heard of, but I’ve seen play in either limited or underexposed instances and showed more ability than they are given credit for.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 05/11/2009 - 12:52am #149383
NYKnicksuperFanParticipanthe’s so underated hes overated
0- Posted on: Mon, 05/11/2009 - 3:54am #149395
blancs50ParticipantRamon can’t really be considered over rated until he gets an opportunity to be the undisputed starter. Hopefully Milwaukee wises and gives up on Ridnour, or Ramon finds a team that will give him a shot to be a full time starter.
I can see where your coming from though. Everyone thought Duhon was underrated and deserved a chance to start somewhere. Once he got that chance, he just proved he that was indeed nothing more than a good back up.

bdoody42ParticipantWhy does everyone hate on Rondo?
Last night he had another Rondo Like game with 21 points,14 rebounds, and 3 assists.Lets compare him to what everyone says is the next great PG in Derrick Rose.
Rondo 08/09 stats.
11.9PP, 8.2APG, 5.2RPG, 2.6TPG,50.5%FG, 31.3%3PT, 1.9SPG
Rose 08/09 stats.
16.8PPG, 6.3APG, 3.9RPG, 2.5TPG, 47.5%FG, 22.2%3PT, 0.8SPGI think the stats speak enough.

ch15r36isParticipantOverrated – Kobe
Everyone else in the league is just plain rated.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 05/11/2009 - 5:48am #149403
deshawynkeys91Participantthe one thing that i hate about the nba is how quick they throw out the words star/superstar and with that u can see who is overrated/underrated… Everyone that follows the nba knows that there is only about 4/5 superstars in the league( k.bryant, l. james, k. garnett, t. duncan).
overrated
– m. redd ( only a jump shooter doesn’t impact on w’s consistantly)
– r. jefferson ( glorified role player)
– k. martin (sac.) ( it is true someone has to score on a BAD team)
– d. lee ( shawn marion the 2nd coming.. system system system)
– v. carter ( This is for all the raptor fans…. ” I DONT WANT TO DUNK!! “)
– s. nash ( if u can’t guard ur position u can’t be a star… sorry tony parker no nash this yr. to abuse in the playoffs)
– d. nowitzki ( great scorer but not a superstar… anyone remember 2006 finals)
– c. boozer ( doesnt it tell u all u need to know that a bench player can come in and be an upgrade)0 - Posted on: Mon, 05/11/2009 - 7:43am #149415

llperezI’m new to this site, but I’ve already seen like a half dozen comments of yours where you talk about how sorry Kobe is. It is obviously clear you hate the guy and thus it makes it impossible to take anything you say seriously about him.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 05/11/2009 - 9:01am #149433
ch15r36isParticipantThat’s probably true. I think he gets way too much credit.
He’s a very good player, I just don’t think he is the top-10 all-time player that people make him out to be.0 - Posted on: Mon, 05/11/2009 - 9:08am #149435

The8thDeadlySinParticipantTo start the post he asked if Jason Richardson had ever been on a playoff team. He was on the Warrior team that beat the number one seeded Mavs. He was like the second or third option.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 05/11/2009 - 10:03am #149456
Michael.S.Participantdoes any1 besides me think that contanntly hearing that players are underated eventually makes them overated
0 - Posted on: Mon, 05/11/2009 - 10:07am #149457
NYKnicksuperFanParticipantblancs50 read what mikenike said thats what i was tryin to say basically if you ask 10 people to name the most underated players in the NBA theyll say sessions so if everyone says him is he really underated anymore b/c everyones acknowledging that hes good
0 - Posted on: Mon, 05/11/2009 - 10:09am #149458

Al-Farouq AminuParticipantJosh Smith is extremely underrated.
Smith led the NBA in blocks for 2 seasons, he is extremely atheletic, helped the Hawks to reach the playoffs, yet still haven’t been an All-StarC-Bill is overrated. He used to be underated, but ever since he won the championship with the pistons, ppl have been given him to much credits and even considering him as one of the top 10 best players in the last decade. WHAT A JOKE !!!! Check out him career stats and how many teams traded him cause he sucked so much at the beginning.

YoungChrisKyParticipantAttention!!!!!! Public Service Announcement!!!!!!!! “jdubsram-13” U are truly an idiot an should be banned from all sports conversation for the rest of your life for stating that Gerald Wallace could ever replace Paul Pierce!!!!!!! Thank u people of nbadraft.net and please continue on with your regularly scheduled day.

blancs50ParticipantSessions unfortunately is not underrated by fans, but rather his team, which is sad considering their starting pg is luke Ridnour. We’ve been hearing for years that Ridnour is a fantastic practice player that does not show up once the game starts.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 05/11/2009 - 10:57am #149482
QHaynes123I believe you on that Josh Smith overrated.
I think Rudy Gay is kinda underrated. To me he is right now a number 3 guy but I think he will develop into a number 1.
Jeff Green is a do-everything guy and OKC moved him around 3 times last season.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 05/11/2009 - 11:01am #149484

YoungChrisKyParticipantAttention!!!!!!!!!!!!! Public Service Announcement!!!!!!!!!!! Aminu c’mon u sound retarded bruh. Billups overrated? Look at wut the guy had done 2 the Nuggets since the A.I. trade. Some guys learn what it takes 2 win later than others an thats the case with Billups. The guy is clutch and he’s like a god when its playoff time. The guy just destroyed arguably the best point guard in the league in CP3 who happens 2 be younger so u think he would be killin Billups. The guy has the recently underachieving nuggets lookin like a possible nba champion. Once again thank u people of nbadraft.net and please continue on with your regularly scheduled day.

Al-Farouq AminuParticipantAttention!!!!!!!!!!!!! Public Service Announcement!!!!!!!!!!! Didn’t you read about the forum regarding top ten players in the past decade, in which like 30 posts are arguing C-Bill ??? The thing is that like what many anti-billups ppl said, c-bill is not in the same categaory as Kidd, Nash, and AI. He should feel extremetly guilty for making the All-Star team without Carmelo Anthony in it, who is having a better season than his slow-paced teammate.
