I was in a pickup game this morning. The other team shot the ball, it hit the rim and bounced over the backboard but didnt touch anything. I didnt bother getting the rebound since it was out of bounds. Thats how Ive seen it called my entire life. Everyone else kept playing like it was still in bounds though. Please tell me I didnt miss some rule change cause 7 people thought I was crazy for calling out of bounds…

Isnt the only time a ball can go over the backboard is in the nba when a player shoots it from behind and over, which is illegal in hs and college though right?

This seems to always be a question in pick up games and I’ve heard both sides and I’m still unclear.  Also in the NBA if the ball hits the corner of the backboard it’s still in bounds but the top is out…? I’m not sure about that either.

I think it has to touch the top of the backboard to be called out. And it’s just pick up your just out there for a sweat don’t get frustrated over nothing.

You can’t shoot from behind the backboard anymore.

If the ball goes over the backboard then it is out of bounds.

On the other hand, a rebound is a rebound. lol

Turns into a team rebound if it goes over the basket.

In that situation, we normally shoot for it. Ball don’t lie…
