r377ParticipantHe was injured at the start of the season, the Wizards are stacked at SF and are trying to make a good run into the playoffs.
He is skilled and I considered him a "safe bet" coming into the draft – meaning he had less "bust appeal" than some other prospects.
Otto Porter was one of my favourites in last years draft, I still think he will be a good player.

Lotto StudParticipantAnd if he would’ve went to that team who had the #1 pick, we would never hear the end of it because many gave it consideration.

Chilbert arenasParticipantHis unforgettable rookie year has been overshadowed by the bust that has been Anthony Bennett. Any other year he’d be getting much more grief. He’s scored 47 points in 29 games.
I was one of many that thought he had low bust potential and would contribute to the Wizards right out the gate, I know he’s had injuries but he’s been a disappointment so far in my eyes.

thricethefunParticipantAnthony Bennett has had a better season than Otto imo, Otto’s just been invisible out there.

HitsterParticipantOtto missing the start of the season really set him back and with Washington being deep at SF with Ariza and Webster and occasionally Harrington playing there plus having added veterans to the bench has meant that Porter has seen practically zero playing time.
A lot will depend on what Washington does with Ariza, if he goes elsewhere then Porter should see playing time. If Ariza stays on then Porter could have an uphill battle on his hands to get into rotation.
I’m very reluctant to write Porter off especially as he has not had the chance to play, he was seen as a safe choice last year but so was Thomas Robinson in 2012.
Has anyone else noticed how little a lot of last year’s draft top 10 have played only really Oladipo and Trey Burke play really major minutes. I know that there has been a lot of injuries and guys need time but I cannot remember the top picks playing so little.

fastdanParticipantRookies who miss training camp/preseason I find generally are always a a step or two behind behind. Not only do they have to contend with the increased speed and physicality of the league but they are trying to learn the system on the fly , which isn’t something these guys have ever dealt with. Stuck behind Ariza and Webster it was pretty clear he wasn’t going to get minutes in a franchise that hasn’t done a good job with committing to developing their young guys; vesely singleton, even blatche, young and McGee were constant underachievers. And a team desperate to make the playoffs isn’t likely to let a rookie play a big role unless his name is magic or Duncan. He’s such a well rounded prospect I just find it hard to believe he’ll be a bust unless Washington just doesn’t give him minutes for the length of his rookie deal. Though with the way Ariza has been playing he may be playing himself out of Washington’s budget, and porter could be thrust into a bigger role next year.

TarHeelRavenParticipantOtto Porter said he was surprised at how fast the NBA game was and he wasn’t prepared for it. He might end up being a good player, but you never want to hear anybody say that.

Mr. HookShotParticipantAny idea why the Wizards did not send him to the D-league? I read a piece that it might be because their D-league affiliate (Iowa) is being shared with 3 other teams, and that it might force him in (again) another system. But still, just sitting on the bench doesn’t make you better.

johnecoParticipantI was surprised he was taken so high.
His athletic testing was really mediocre for a top SF prospect, I thought it was a red flag.
I know many think athletic testing is crap, but this might be a case where it could have been useful. That said, I hope he figures out a way to succeed, because he seems like a good kid.

Kevin6CDParticipantbeen enamored with his game, but I didn’t think he’d be so bad that he couldn’t even get minutes. It’s too early to write him off; but, he needs to have a really good summer, gain another 15 pounds and have a good summer league showing.

Rip255The guy questioning whether the Ariza/Webster combination constitutes depth at the SF position needs to be reminded that not every team has LBJ or Paul George on the roster. Ariza is a very solid starter who has proven he can be a glue guy on a championship team and play extended minutes.
Most GM’s would be happy with that tandem if it meant they had enough money to sign other players to 8 figure contracts.

invalidParticipantyes not all teams has LBJ or George.. and many more that the list can go on, that ariza/webster combination will be buried(not at the very bottom). Ariza is solid but if we are talking of depth, let’s see.. webster also see’s time at the two and harrington at four(how many games did he play btw?) how is that stacked?what i meant is that if i am SF rookie i’d be looking for a team like this. not giving up on him but his potential isn’t that appealing especially from a 3rd pick.

Jester87ParticipantI never really liked him, although I thought Cleveland was going to draft on need and reach on him with the first pick so I had him #1 in my mock. But it’s been a tough season for him, he had that early injury and when he came back Webster and Ariza were playing really well and the Wizards were competing for a playoff spot. Not easy to get playing time and in fact he never cracked the rotation.
The jury is still out and I think it’s pretty much the same for Bennett and Len. They barely got playing time, they all had injuries and their teams were in win now mode when they came back (the fact that Cleveland was terrible doesn’t mean they weren’t trying to win). Obviously their rookie seasons aren’t encouraging, but it’s too easy to mock them and ignore the fact that they found themselves in a different and worse situation than, say, MCW, Burke, Oladipo or McLemore (and by the way McLemore’s PER and per 36 stats are comparable to those of Bennett and Len).

HitsterParticipantI also thought that Porter was a natural fit for Cleveland but I think the majority of us thought that taking him at 1 was a bit of a reach.
Webster and Ariza may not be the greatest SF duoin the NBA but they are solid players and because of them Porter is getting virtually zero playing time.
