I’ve never seen one TRADE post on here that got any good criticism….so I look forward to the backlash because I am certainly no general manager.http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine Orlando knows they cant resign Dwight Howard, Golden State wants to trade Monta Ellis and they need a center. David Lee makes the numbers work and I dont think the Magic would do it str8 up Dwight for Monta.  Maybe Golden States 11th pick can be worked into the deal if need be.  It says this trade favors Golden State +10 in wins to Orlando -7…but lets face it…basically any trade you make with Dwight Howard you are going to get the short end of the stick.  Anyways its obviously just a frivelous idea but what ya’ll think???

I agree Orlando needs to shed those contracts….but NO ONE is touching the Arenas contract….and if the Magic wait too long they’ll get nothing for Dwight…If I’m Orlando Management and I don’t have Dwight signed by the trade deadline(assuming theres even basketball) then you got to pull the trigger and get best deal possible.  If not, you’ll be waiting all summer to see Dwight having a press confrence on espn annoucing hes taking his talents to Los Angeles and all you got to show for it is one NBA final where you got sweeped.

smybol is the man, such a smart poster. he’s 100% right….the magic’s Otis Smith isnt the smartest GM in the industry (giving rashard that bi*chin’ contract was an indication) but hes smart enough to know he has leverage where he can dump turk and/or arenas in a howard trade

This is obviously premature but any trades coming will probably be asking for draft picks as they are expected to be much for valuable in the new (expected) CBA. I can’t imagine any team wanting to be on the salary dump side of an over paid player, so this trade to me seems stupid, not just becuase Dwight is getting dealt but because it most likely sets Orlando back 5 years in rebuilding.

There are a lot of Dwight Howard trades on this website – so lets make sometthings clear for future Dwight trade discussions.

If you trade Dwight Howard, YOU ARE REBUILDING. No way do you take on 2 players who have never demonstrated they are winners. You’re not rebuilding around Ellis or Lee. It was only a half season, but the Jazz/Nuggets set the tone for future trades of star players (young players + and or draft picks). There are not going to be many teams doing what the Knicks did and trading half their team for 1 player. The Nuggets got some young talent and will be ok despite not having an allstar/superstar.

Any team that attempts to trade their franchise player will seek draft picks. It may be argued this route has greater risk, but it also has less cost as rookies are cheaper than vets and are expected to be even cheaper after the CBA. If you trade Dwight, you’re not getting his value back in trade, so the only reasonable thing to do is lessen the pain of rebuilding by aquiring draft picks which also lets you remain flexible in the future for acquiring FA’s. You can’t do that if you take on a bunch of over paid guys with long contracts.

Remember a lot of teams realize if the CBA pans out as expected, guys like Lee and Ellis become less valuable as they get exponentially more expensive, and don’t have a history of winning (rumors have hard cap as low as 48mil). Expect trades in the future to center around younger players and picks (and salary dumps to match and free cap space).

Here is a trade that is more likely to go down:

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3vl4za7

Orlando also sends a future 1st round pick to the Warriors.

The reason that this trade is more real is becuase they will need a center still that is why Beidrins is included. Also, a salary dump by the Magic in Turk.

Definitely will unload Turk or Gil’s contract.  If I’m Orlando, however, I’m holding out for Curry or Wright with Monta.  For Dwight, why settle?  There’s still time, as whoever gets Dwight is a contender immediately that year (seriously, that Orlando team had no business being as good as it was – Dwight is a BEAST).

That would be my biggest issue with this potential deal. Not only that, but Orlando would be taking on some long term contracts that might be really hard to rebuild with and land them in utter mediocrity. I know it says they would only lose 7 games, but I would be surprised if that team made the play-offs, they would be fighting with the Pacers, Bucks and Bobcats for that last spot, not to mention New Jersey with an ability to possibly sign a PF to compete for it as well.

Really, Orlando would be taking on one awful contract in David Lee and one that is decent, but not incredible in Monta. He is an explosive scorer, but he has yet to prove he can lead a team to anywhere other than the late lottery. With David Lee, the guy is making 8 figures until 2016 (where he is scheduled to be making a cool 15 milli), and he has the same distinction. They are both fun players to watch, both have been in All-Star contention before, and both are loved by Hollinger’s PER system (which does actually reward players that take more shots), but even so, teamed together, we give you a Warriors team never really in contention for a play-off spot.

I love Stephen Curry, he is the guy I would keep on Golden State, and I do believe he would be a step up from whomever you consider the second banana to be on Orlando. But, besides that, they have very little going for them. Dorrell Wright? Ekpe Udoh? These are the building blocks of a contender if they were to get Dwight Howard? Yes, they have the 11th pick, but odds are against them that this pick would do significant damage. So, once again, while this works on the trade machine, it is an awful trade, more so for the Magic than the Warriors. Could even be awful for the Warriors, as I think they would have no chance of signing Dwight to an extension, he would just look for a better situation to bounce too.

Just saw yours BKSmith. Even worse. Why take on that much salary if you are Orlando? Plus a first round pick? That would be dooming your team to purgatory for about 3 years at the least. Two guys who have yet to prove they can take a team to the play-offs making 8 figures, plus an oft-injured Center making 9 million a year until 2015? No thanks. Not to mention, throwing in Turkoglu to Golden State still leaves very little reason for Dwight to think he could win with that team. No thanks from either angle.

I was a day ahead of the curve…http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2011/06/warriors-offer-monta-ellis-for-dwight-howard/…maybe the GM’s of the Warriors and Magic should get "negged" like I did…LOL
