Alex Oriakhi is headed to Mizzou..
Should give them a formiddable front court for their first year in the SEC.

Smart move basketball-wise for Oriakhi. He’s gunna get major minutes with their lack of depth down low and their guards will once again find their big guy for several open dunks and layups. Ya they lose English, Ratliffe, and Denmon but they return both pressey’s, Dixon, get bowers back, and now Oriakhi. That’s a pretty formidable starting 5 in a rather weak SEC. If they get a couple guys to produce off the bench they could compete for the title.

Has it been said whether or not Oriakhi will be eligible to play next season because of UConn’s post-season ban? Or does he have to sit out a year?

Damn i wish he would have signed with UNC, once i knew he was very close to Phil Pressey and Mizzouri didnt have a front court and plenty of playing time was available it was obvious he would sign with them. He’s going to provide a more size better defense presence than Ricardo Ratliff but isnt going to be as effecient offensevily in my opinion.

    He can play right away.

Heard the biggest reason he went there is because… Well, two biggest reasons:

    1) He wants 30+ mpg. His father (a big role in his "recruitment") was very vocal about Calhoun screwing his son over last season.

    2) The Oriakhi family is very close to the Pressey family. Although it was said that his father wasn’t a fan of the Mizzou area. Haith must have talked him up big.

Major reason why Ratliffe was so efficient this season was bc of all the open looks guys like Pressey and Dixon got him. I’m sure his efficiency won’t be that high just bc he will be relied on to score more but it should still be really good no doubt

mizzou has a nice slew of transfers coming with oriakhi, keion bell (average close to 20 ppg at pepperdine), jabari brown (top 20 recruit for oregon this year) and earnest ross (13 ppg at auburn).  those guys with flip pressey, dixon and bowers could be another sleeper top-10 team next season.

Other than being boys with Pressey , I don’t see why he would pick Missouri over UNC.  He would of started at Center next to McAdoo and got his 30 minutes but , I guess it wasn’t a good fit for him since he wouldn’t be the man inside.  UNC needs a starting Center now kinda bad.

dissappointed that oriakhi didnt come to chapel hill.  wouldve been a nice frontcourt with bullock, mcadoo.  now well have to go young at center with joel james or brice johnson.

@unc…. Can you please give me your opinion on this years recruiting class at UNC, I’ve seen Paige and Brice but know little on Jjames and the kid from Wisconsin. Seen highlights on the Wisconsin kid, does he have the potential to be more than a leaper?

I dont like this choice.  If the Oriakhi’s are close to the Pressey’s then I cant argue that comfortability level.  My problem is, I dont know how much success this team will be.  Frank Haith is grossly overated IMO.  I cannot deny the fact that he had a great year as Head Coach and was deserving of COY recognition…but I dont think he is a very good coach.  He had good players at Miami and they constantly underachieved.  He did damage with Mike Anderson’s players….but I dont know if Oriaki is sipping the Kool-Aid on this one.

As a UNC fan, it wouldve been nice to see him in the Carolina Blue, but I dont blame him for not picking UNC.  Roy wouldnt use him right….and the last transfer we had wasnt nearly as much of an impact as he was predicted to be…..Justin Knox.

UK, Duke, and Xavier were all better choices IMO.  One that wasnt on his list that I think wouldve been perfect was KU.

On a side note, parents are sometimes going to be critical if their sons dont get PT or are in the starting lineup….this does not mean the parent is right or doing what is best for the son.  There was a reason Calhoun cut Oriakhi’s minutes.  Some athletes parents give them a sense of entitlement.  Larry Drew is a perfect example.
