the microwaveParticipant1994-1995 Grant hill + Jason Kidd tied for Rookie of the year which to me is wack… Who do you think should have won and why?
1999-2000 – Steve Franchise and Elton Brand tied for ROY… Who do you think should have won and why.
For some reason it bothers me when people tie for awards, so im curious to see who u all would have picked for each.70-71 cowens tied Petrie but i doubt many of us in here have an opinion on that.. The point of awards to me is to deem 1 man the best at the respective award at hand…

llperezHill vs Kidd should have gone to Kidd. He had a major impact on making his teammates better. Dennis Rodman in his autobiography called it a total shame they gave Hill a share of the award. He said it was because Hill was being groomed to be a household name. Don’t get me wrong, I think Hill became the better player, but for ROY, it should have gone to Kidd.
As for Brand and Francis, I honestly don’t remember.

sheltwon3ParticipantI think the reason it wind up being a tie was because you can make a case for both ways. Grant Hill made the all star game as a rookie if I remember correctly. Kidd did alot of good but Dallas still sucked and Detroit made the playoffs. The Elton Brand Steve Francis debate was hard too but I would give it to Elton Brand though but Francis had more highlights.

doubledribblerParticipantI will go with Hill. I think he was more efficient overall than Kidd, but I can still understand the tie. The guys were both excellent in their first year. I think Brand should have gotten it though over Francis. I think Francis had a really nice rookie year, but I think he may have gotten a little more hype because the guy was a highlight film.
These four guys are all interesting though. Brand has essentially been the same player his whole career. It doesn’t seem like he has gotten much better or worse over time, with the exception of his injuries. Grant Hill’s career started out on fire and then he became a part of the team that never was with McGrady. Though the interesting thing is that it almost became Tim Duncan and McGrady in Orlando. He’s bounced back to play well. Francis is already out of the league. Kidd has been a great player and has made teammates better everywhere he has went. He has gotten numerous guys overpaid by making them look so good. Recent examples include Scalibrine and K Mart. He always seems to start a lot of trouble right before he gets booted to his next team.

redbaboonParticipantsorry to elude the question, but i feel kinda bad for hill, he was on track to be a LeBron like figure, before LeBron was even here, he just got off course, he has had a good career, but he should have been great
