Blake Griffin is going to start the year on the bench, but it wont last long. Obviously, someone is going to have to be moved to the bench. The person moving to the bench looks like it will be Al Thornton. He was questioned about it yesterday and said he didnt want to be the energy guy off the bench but that was ok if that is what helped the team. That means Blake will be the starting SF! Will that work or will they quickly move Griffin to the PF and put Al back in the starting lineup?

Unless it was said by the Coach or GM I don’t believe it. ”He was questioned about it yesterday and said he didnt want to be the energy guy off the bench but that was ok if that is what helped the team.” He should have said I would hapily except the energy-guy off the bench role if it helped the team, your a rookie and no one really cares what u want, and itreally don’t matter anyways. As for him playing the 3 HE WILL GET ABUSED

Yea. I wasn’t bashing Al or anything. And it was said by Dunleavy. I just feel Griffin is best used as a PF and maybe some SF every now and then. He cant be a starting SF because, like you said, he would get abused.

yeah, how can he guard a Lebron? He would lost lost on the wing on O.
Plus you bench a proven young rising star, i think, for a rookie

It wont last long….by game 20 Blake will be the starting PF

Why would he play the 3? They’re going to put Kaman or Camby on the bench…and its been said that if the Clippers dissapoint that Camby will be shopped

I think in the position he’s in he should not want to come off the bench or accept it. Though he does need to go out and work his butt off and prove himself in games and practice. He plays for a horrible team and organization. It would be one thing if he was playing for a contending team, but there is not much of a reason not to start a guy as talented as he is, though it should be at the 4. Are they planning on starting Camby and Kaman? I surely hope not…Teams pick 1st for a reason.

who cares u knew clippers were gonna screw this up
    dunleavy is a joke
he wants to control every aspect of the game and that’s why Elton Brand left and Baron Davis hates the coach
he sucks the fun right out of players with his mechanical approach to everything

Dunleavy is avg. at best but having Brand leave was a blessing look at his line of work the last 2 years. Anyhow they got Griffin & aren’t stuck w/a huge contract for Brand who is getting up there in age now. Now if only they could’ve traded Baron Davis for an expiring contract & signed Sessions they’d be a nice young team w/ more cap room than anyone. Makes no diff. if Griffin is on the bench once he starts to get more minutes coach will have to put him in the starting lineup. When was the last time a big man was this ready for the NBA anyway maybe Tim Duncan? The key to the Clips is getting Griffin, Jordan developed as much as possible if those 2 play to their potential the team is set.

I have to disagree with NYK2010. Elton Brand is a beast. His career averages are always 20 and 10 and the only players to do so are Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, there are more people but I can’t remember. If Brand is in that category he has to be good. He just had one bad season with the Sixers.

They definitely have to trade Camby. He is the odd-man out and he could be a good player for a contending team. Playing Griffin at the SF is only going to confuse the guy. He should start PF right away and if he comes off the bench, he’ll be starting in no time.

Griffin has short arms so he plays shorter than other 6’10 guys
I always thought Deandre Jordan (standing reach 9’6) would be the great PF mismatch
Blake Griffin (standing reach 8’9) has small wingspan so has to come over a lot to block shots
he will get exposed on defense from time to time

The reason he’s on the bench right now is because he’s been injured for about the past month or 2 guys. And I think they should continue to let Al Thornton develop, Blake Griffin is in no way shape or form a SF. No way, not by a mile. This is why if I were a Clippers fan, I would be calling for Dunleavy’s head. Why would you do this? What perimeter skill does he even have, thats on an NBA level? Nothing! Only Mike Dunleavy would do something like this. And yes, Camby would be the odd man out more than likely, unless the Hawks do the right thing and try to deal Marvin Williams to the Clippers for Chris Kaman.

Here’s the starting lineup for the Clips going into training camp:

    C: Kaman
    PF: Camby
    SF: Thornton
    SG: E. Gordon
    PG: B. Davis

This is going to be the lineup unitl Griffin gets better(health wise)

What makes you think that Thornton will be the player moving to the bench? I read the article about the Clippers’ media day in the LA Times and just because the reporter asked Thornton about coming off the bench doesn’t mean he’s the player that’ll actually be coming off the bench. I really think the reporter was just asking him the question just to hear his stance on it. Kaman, Camby and Griffin were also asked the same exact question. Thornton will be the starter at small forward… Period. Dunleavy mentioned that Griffin would see some time at small forward during small stretches of games, BUT there has been zero talk of Griffin starting at small forward.

Camby is the starter at power forward as of right now, but Griffin will become the starter at some point during training camp. Griffin has been out the last month and a half with a shoulder injury and he just banged knees with Craig Smith in a pickup game a few days ago. Dunleavy wants to ease Griffin into the starting lineup. The goal is to not make Griffin feel like he needs to be the team’s savior. This is actually a smart move by Dumbleavy lol.

In the article I read, they made it sound like Camby was concerned because Griffin was going to be starting at the 3 before the end of the year. I dont think Thornton will be on the the bench. It was just something that I read and thought I would share it with yall. Personally, I think Thornton is just fine for the Clipps 3 guard. I was just throwing out some ideas.

Of course they are going to mess this up. They finally have some talent, so they need to find a way to still be the Clippers.

“Just when I thought you couldn’t possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this… and totally redeem yourself! ” – Sterling to Dunleavy

on a more serious note Griffin at the 3 wouldn’t work all he can do is slash/post up like
    a poor man’s Lebron
who is going to space the floor at the PF spot? Camby?Kaman?Jordan?

perhaps they shoud have kept Randolph’s contract ROFL

Trade Blake Griffin and Marcus “I’m actually 43 years old” Camby, to get Randolph back. Dunleavy is planning it… lmfao

I remember when dwight howard was in high school and he said he would like to play some sf. well it looks like the coaches made the right choice in putting him down low. could you imagine him on the wing now? point being that blake needs to stay at the 4 and if he play another position it should be some 5, sf would be a joke.
