What are your thoughts on Oladipo running tha 1?
Do u guys think he can do it?

I don’t see him as a pg, but guys like Wade and James benefited from starting at the 1 early on. I think its a smart move and will make him a better player but he is definitely a 2 in my eyes.

  …I think there’s no doubt he’s a SG. 6’4″ with a notable weakness being handles and creation off the dribble in the half court. However, as you say playing the 1 early in his career (especially in summer league/garbage minutes) will really help to develop said weaknesses.
  I think Orlando have got to be looking at him as a potential Dwade light: an athletic, slashing, ball-handling 2 with great defence. He’s never going to match Wade’s ability to create off the dribble and penetrate but he has arguably greater defensive intangibles already. In the end they can probably hope for a borderline all-star level SG capable of playing both on and off the ball, and efficiently both ways.

Hate it as a pelicans fan reminds me of trying to make Austin Rivers a point guard and we all know how that worked out while Oladipo is more athletic Austin has a better ball handle IMO

I never said I felt like he was a pg, I was just asking a question. I was trying to get feedback because I read on here earlier this wk about the Magic’s plans on using him as a PG in the Summer League.

They’re most likely playing him at PG, because a little playing time there can help improve his ball-handling and creating his own shot for him and others. He still has to be a 2 in their eyes unless he suddenly changes his play style.

The weakest part of his game is probably his decision making and ball handling so it makes some sense to play him at the point in the summer league to get him to improve in these areas…but there is no long term plan for him to play point from what I heard. Just because they need a point guard doesn’t mean they will just plug him in there and hope for the best.

  Yeah agree, I’m pretty sure this is just a summer league thing to have the ball in Oladipos hands as much as possible to work on his overall offensive game and let him kinda be the main plain maker and have a bigger role on being the primary playmaker. Rob Hennigan was with the Thunder when they did this with Kevin Durant and putting him at the shooting guard position his rookie year to get used to being the scorer and shooter. It payed off of course because look at how good he is now.

Wade and Bron really took advantage of it but Tyreke Evens and Rivers had problems finding a role in a similar situation. Evans had a good rookie year but hasn’t played pg the last two years and still has no position. One of the biggest weaknesses of Oladipo is his poor isolation game where he tends to overdribble and is forcing things to much. On the other hand it’s only summer league and if it’s not working they won’t play him point guard coming October. I really think the Magic missed out on Bledsoe and they still have no point guard in the roster…

Just because he’ll log minutes at the 1 during SL doesn’t mean anything more than they want to get him experience with the ball in his hands. I wouldn’t read into it too much, remember when Denver ran J.R. Smith at the point during SL a few years back? Lol

Back in highschool if he took more than two dribbles the parents would start yelling Vic what are you doing give it up to Quinn (Cook). He was like the forth option on his highschool team it’s amazing what happens. And it would be good for him to run point can hurt him.
