Bene294ParticipantAs a german soccer and basketball fan this news today was very surprising to me: http://www.sportando.com/en/europe/germany/116494/bayern-munich-to-start-a-cooperation-with-thunder-coach-pesic-says.html
Does anyone can say something more detailed to such cooperations? I would be interested how this deals works out. In Germany, they assume that it has something to do with Tibor Pleiss (who by the way plays an excellent season in Spain) because Bayern was already interested in him. Or could it be the case that they want to stash players/draftees in Germany?
Would it make sense that OKC stashes their european prospects/picks in Munich? Bayern should play at the Euroleague level regularly and the competition in the German League is also not too bad. Malcolm Delaney is a perfect example for the progress happening in Munich. There were/are rumors that the Rockets are interested to get him as a replacement for Beverley if he does not come back early enough.
I’m just curious if this is a step towards farmteams in Europe or just a marketing deal for both sides.

HitsterParticipantSports teams will look at the ways teams from other sport train, use sports science, nutrition etc to try and gain any advantage they can. So I could understand someone like Sam Presti looking at how such a successful football team as Bayern Munich do things.
Plus the Thunder might be considering using Bayern basketball team as a feeder/stasher team.

OhCanada-ParticipantLooks like OKC wants to stash more talent. I dont see Clint Capela falling past OKCs first draft selection.

HitsterParticipantClint Capela is a good call for OKC at 29 aprox in the draft. Guy is raw and needs time but with Nick Collinson not getting any younger, he’d be a nice fit at OKC. Draft him, leave him in Europe for a year, bring him over in 2015 and then develop him slowly, using Collinson as a mentor etc.

XYRYXParticipantI was very execited to see this news up here but can’t find any details about this right now. German sources have it that a Thunder commission is now in Munich to talk further details and to get a better impression about how it is over here and that they have been with the FCB officials to the champions league game against ManU.
Pesic (Munichs coach) said there wil be a cooperation but nothing in particular has leaked yet. Only information I got is that they want to start a marketing thing with the bavarians, I live in Munich btw.
Maybe there is something going on with draft and dash players but I’m almost sure it won’t involve Tibor Pleiss like it is reported in germany. Tibor has a contract with spanish club LAbural Kutxa Vitoria and aside frim the fact that Munich wanted him in 2012 when he joined Vitoria there is nothing that makes sense from a draft / stash point of view. Maybe they they reach an agreement about further european players who will get drafted by the Thunder and might stay in Munich to develope but as of right now there is nothing in this direction.
Non the less Munich is one of the best run teams all over the world and I’m pretty sure this is a good thing for both sides going forward and I’m excited to see a german team making the pitch!
