In the new mock draft, Okafor is back at #2. Thoughts?

    I honestly don’t understand it.

Sure, Okafor is extremely talented offensively in the post. But he’s still a poor defender and poor shooter.

To me, his ceiling maxes out at maybe a slightly better Al Jefferson. But would you pick Al Jefferson at #2? No way.

With Towns all but certainly going #1, I would take either Russell or even Porzingis if I were the Lakers.

Your crazy if you wouldnt take an Al Jefferson like career at #2 overall. Right now the Lakers need to nail this pick correctly after getting tough luck with Julius Randle injury (who knows, what type of player he will be when he comes back). 20/10 guys dont grow on trees, even with questions on defense. Your basically banking on D’Angelo Russell to be atleast a Brandon Roy in his prime or Porzingis to be Pau Gasol to justify passing up on a Jahlil Okafor. Id rather have a sure thing.

Aran was trolling before creating more hype and specualtion for the draft with the Porzingis at 3 Okafor at 4 pick.

Incorrect.  The Lakers are far from set in stone when it comes to taking Okafor or Russell.  If they take Russell then there are no guarantees that the 76ers would stay in that spot since they don’t need Okafor (since they still believe the two bigs they have are the future).  Orlando has been rumored to really be high on Porzingis and could trade up to get him.  If that happens then Okafor drops to #4.  I don’t see it happening but it was far from "trolling".

Okafor at 2 is where I think he will go. I think the mock is fine until it gets to 8. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there is no way that Detroit takes Lyles that high (a reach in the top 10) especially after the Ilyasova trade. The only PF I could see us drafting is Porzingis if he drops. I understand you guys are high on Lyles, I get it. But he’s no longer a fit for Detroit and I firmly believe they will not draft him.

If they do stupidly draft him, I promise to make a post saying how wrong I was and how I apologise profusely to Aran and NBADraft.net.

    Also, Kaminsky at 21? WTF?

okafor could but should not go to the lakers unless they pick for someone else imo. not a good fit at all, and with mudiay and russell available passing on either would be foolish, regardless of what clarkson did on a bad team.agreed would not make sense for detroit to take a pf at all at this point. maybe a back up like richaun holmes or tashawn thomas in the 2nd . but not in the lottery and if they did it wouldnt be lyles anyway imo. more likey turner, portis or the versatile looney.

okafor and towns are still a top most gm’s bds, except for the lakers it wouldnt make a heck of alot of sense to take okafor when they just took randle last year. They might anyway, but I am leaning towards them taking the scoring pg from ohio state , or the extremely athletic mudiay… i also think their is a good possibility they trade down if they can get a veteran and also get WCS  or get turner a little farther down.

For the millionth time Randle and Okafor play nothing alike.  It makes total sense for the Lakers to take Okafor since he is a positional need.  It would make no sense to take Porzingis because him and Randle play the same position.

they are both scoring offensive bigs that score in the paint…how is that not a log jam…there is only one basketball.

if they take okafor which they well may do, randle is gone…

neither is a rim protector either which means you have two bigs and no defense at the rim…not too smart.

No, it means you don’t have blocks.  Which is not the only way to protect the rim.  Protecting the rim starts on the perimeter and includes things like contesting shots and taking charges.  No 1st year or 2nd year PF/C combination will be exceptional on defense.  It takes repetition.

Drafting a player based off the output that you are expecting in year one is not a good look.

i would trade down aquire a vet and take wcs if i had to get a defensive presence in the paint not okafor. Yes i understand you can defend without being a rim protector , but okafors defense is atrocious

I got faith in Porzingas. I think he goes higher than #5.

Legit 7’1"  with great athleticism and range. Theres no way he can be a bust provided he hits 3pt shots.

Okafor I think will be a 18/8 guy, but he will struggle on defense. I feel like he is for sure a top 4 pick. Just not sure where. Knicks would love for him to fall in their laps.
