i officially think, OJ Mayo can be a gilbert arenas type, scoring point guard. He averaging pretty much the same thing Gilbert averaged his 3rd year in the league, before he officially became a point guard. My only doubt on this topic is some people still don’t consider gilbert arenas a point guard.

so are they? are aren’t they?and what do you think of his potential?

Gilbert is cool but not quite a module for success, the Wizards have no championship aspirations.

it all depends on what offense he plays in cus some offenses you dont need a true point

Yea I agree it depends on the offense that you run you may not need the protypical point guard. I mean sure Mayo could transition to that position but the thing is how would it affect the team as a whole I am not really sure. He does seem to have a similar game to Arenas but it depends on how the team would play.

I disagree. I don’t think Mayo will ever be an Arenas type of scoring guard. Mayo doesn’t have the athleticism, strength, end to end speed or change of direction speed, attack the rim mentality, finishing ability or the ability to shoot off the dribble like Arenas. Arenas could get into the lane whenever he wanted and finish through contact. Before the knee injury, Arenas was basically unstoppable.

The main thing that makes it almost impossible for him to be an Arenas type of scoring guard is his jumpshooter’s mentality. Arenas took a lot of jumpshots too, but also lived at the free-throw line. In Arenas’ three highest scoring season with Washington he went to the free-throw line 640, 799 and 718 times. Mayo barely gets to the free-throw line and doesn’t have an attack the rim mentality.

I think he could play the point to some degree especially if teamed with Iverson who does have some point guard skills between the both of them they would get enough assists and Mayo is smart enough to control tempo.

He could develop into a Gilbert Arenas type. He is pretty much just like Arenas, except he isn’t as explosive athletically. He also is already a better defender to me than Arenas is or has ever been. It’s certainly possible, I don’t think he’s that far off..

Hes not as explosive but look at his combine numbers…he tested as one of the most athletic wing players…watching him play its hard to believe that…but when I look at OJ Mayo I see a high character, high competitive guy so that may translate well to the PG where he may not be as selfish and pass on some shots for his teamates
