Will Team USA still have a rivalry with Spain by the year 2016? Probably won’t have the Gasols, Jose Calderon and Rudy Fernandez even though they likely will still have Rubio and Ibaka but who will be our new rival by then? I find Canada being the answer to that question, eh?

Heres my prediction of their roster

    2016 Canada Roster

    C Tristan Thompson Cavs
    F Anthony Bennett HS Senior
F Andrew Wiggins #1 HS Sophomore
    G Cory Joseph Spurs
    G Myck Kabongo Texas

    B Kyle Wiltjer Kentucky
    B Kris Joseph Syracuse
B Andy Rautins Former Knicks Guard
B Khem Birch UNLV Transfer from Pitt
    B Devoe Joseph Oregon
    B Kevin Pangos Gonzaga
    B Kelly Olymk Gonzaga

Sacre would at least give them a true center

That’s alot of young promising talent but none of them have proven anything beyond the college level (some of them haven’t proven anything past the HS level).

If they want to compete with the top teams in the world they’ll need more size than that. A 6’9" center (and that’s being generous) and a 6’7" PF just won’t cut it.

This is only the first crop of real talent we have ever produced and it’s just the beginning.  Most of those players are from Ontario and 3 (I believe) are from Brampton Ontario, Tristan Thompson and Anthony Bennet for sure.  There is a program called CIA bounce that is producing players like crazy.  Look out for more out of the bounce camp because i watched a couple of youth games the other day and the talent level of these players is off the charts.  Stay tuned!!!

spain will be still good in 2016, you think they will run out of good players in 2016?…and marc gasol will be only 31 years old…same with USA, Greece, Serbia, there will be always young players to fill the roster…

I’m not saying Spain won’t have a good team all i’m saying is that Canada is currently pushing out talent that we have NEVER produced save for Steve Nash.  And by the way filling out the roster doesn’t mean that they are top flight players!!

It is yet to be seen if the Canadian kids that have left highschool early in Canada to go to Prep School in the states will choose to play for their country. There is a huge divide between Basketball Canada and the Toronto Club programs like Bounce and Grassroots, which is why Jamaal Magloire never played for Team Canada. Don’t be surprised if half of the kids on your original list never suit up — but no doubt, there is nice potential there.

There is a disconnect between bounce and the National program however when Magloire was playing high school ball in Toronto Bounce may have been around but not established in any way.  Plus when you have a Moron like Leo Rautins (former National coach)  looking mostly out west and Winnipeg for talent it’s no wonder why players don’t want to play nationally.  However to be fair they ALL played for our under 18 squad and the Nike hoops summit representing Canada so it’s safe to say that the trend should continue

Sim and Tanveer Bhullar could also be apart of the team 7’4 and 7’2 I believe and Team Canada can use the size

Also, what about Andrew Nicholson? I think he’d be a GREAT fit for team Canada.

Thats a nice list of some young talent, but what makes you think they will even qualify for the Olympics in Rio?
