Chael Sonnen is not top 5 in his weight class. He is just a big talker that is entertaining, but has never backed it up.

Alistair Overeem has been roiding for years and should not be on any list because of it. I have always suspected it from him.

Mike Brown, Cub Swanson, Mark Hominick are top 5 in their class.

Chris Weidman is top 5 in his weight class.

chael is 5-2 over his last 7 fights with the 2 losses only being to anderson silva. ANd he fought anderson better then any silva opponent in many years. And those 5 wins include. bisping, stann, okami and marquardt who were all ranked top 5 at the time he fought them. I would put my money on sonnen over any mw not names silva right now.

I have no doubt overeem roids. But i also beleive lots of fighters roid. He has not been caught so as long as athletic commisions allow him to fight, im not gonna knock him for it.

Mike Brown is only 4-4 in his last 8 fights. Although I do beleive he has top 5 potential. Hominick has lost 4 fights in a row and just announced his retirement.. cub Swanson is right there. Probably could have included him.

Ummmm, ok, I got a few talking points:

1) What is UFC?
2) How does it work?
3) Why do they wear such skin-tight outfits?
4) If my friend wears a shirt that says “Tap Out”, should I instincitively know to protect my genitals?
5) If my not-so-much friend says he is going execute a “flying armbar” on me, how much should I be worried about a) the potential pain caused to me and b) the feasibility of him actually being able to do this move?
6) Do they sell ice cream at matches?
7) Are Hulk Hogan and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson somehow related to all of this?
8) I had a bad rash once in my groin area and I think my doctor said it was called “MMA” or something close to that. Coincidence?
9) Do a lt of guys in UFC have girlfriends?

Pettis is fighting tomorow night on Fox vs Donald Cerrone. Should be a great fight. Pettis was on route to getting a title shot in the ufc but lost a decision to clay guida where guida just layed on him and held him down. As good as Pettis is at striking, he will struggle vs the elite wrestlers although i suppose Ben henderoson is a very elite wrestler and he did beat him so…

Donald Cerrone is a very good fighter too, I’m a fan of his. This fight is a coin toss I’m not sure who is going to win. Slight edge on the ground to Cowboy and slight edge standing up to Pettis.

My current fav fighter urijah faber fights tonight on fx tv. He always brings it. And I’ll be updating my division standings soon.

Also, any thoughts on transgender fighter Fallon fox who is currently undefeated as a female fighter even though she was a man just 5 years ago? Personally I don’t think she should be allowed to compete in mixed martial arts vs women.

I agree with all of this, LL. Faber is a very exciting little dude but check out the other Uriah: Hall! Dude’s kickboxing is off the charts and he has no mercy. I expect another 1st round KO out of the young man. The Great Chael Sonnen aka The American Gangster believes Hall will have a shot at The Middleweight Belt someday.

I think it’s bologna…the dude/dudette? is biologically a dude. It isn’t fair for her/him/it to take on women in hand-to-hand combat.

3 of the top new UFC fighters coming from Strikeforce are fighting over the next month (Melendez, Cormier, and Rockhold) so I’m really excited for that. Melendez and Cormier are fighting on FOX next Saturday (Melendez for The Belt against Bendo and Cormier against Former Heavyweight Champ Frank Mir) and Rockhold against the Brazilian Roider Belfort on FX on May 18th.

I think if Cormier beats Mir he may drop down to 205 and take on Jon Bones Jones for The Belt (or The American Ganster if Sonnen beats Jones).

Legendary upset by Kool Kelvin Gastelum!

Dude’s heart is legendary! He was counted out of all his fights (was the 15th pick out of 16 fighters, too) yet came out on top each and every time. All the more impressive that he’s just 21 and probably should be fighting at 170 instead of 185.

Uriah hall has all the tools, but he is maybe a little too cool and confident out there. He was doing that Anderson silva lean on the cage and drop your arms and let the opponent come forward stuff. Meanwhile his opponent came forward and was a dog out there. Hall gets a little more aggressive from te get go and he could absolutely be in the title mix soon.

And great performance from faber. He’s a wrestler who doesn’t try to win points with his ground game, he is going for thefinish at all times.

And Dale, you are right about next weekends free card on fox. Those strikeforce guys are legit. Gonna be fun to see all those fights, including josh Thompson vs Nate Diaz.
