It is official, Durant is joining the Warriors.

I find this incredibly weak and disappointing. I’ve said before, it’s not just about championships. It’s HOW you win them.

You were just battling this team in the conference finals and then you go and join them? Weak.

I get why Kevin Durant chose the Warriors, but I’m surprised and a little disappointed. This appears to increase the likelihood of Warriors vs Cavs III in the 2017 NBA Finals.

Worst part is that it kills the chances of other teams. Teams like Celtics, Pacers, OKC, Spurs. It will take several moves for those teams to compete against them for the next 5 years. NBA is my favorite sport. DURANT JUST RUNIED THE LEAGUE FOR ME. GS is so lopsided as the favorite now its a joke.

It will be exciting to see Steph Curry MVP and KD in unison but it takes a bit of the excitement away from everything. The question will be now can they better 73-9 season or more importantly regain the title.

For GSW it’s a great move they get two of the best three NBA players together and have a great fall back with Curry being an FA next summer. It would be ironic if Curry moved on then but I guess he’s a cert to resign for them now.

Any details of possible contract size yet.

Also could Westbrook be in play now, OKC have lost KD, Boston have most assets but already have a loaded backcourt so other deals for Westbrook would probably not give OKC the deal they would want.

Fans care about how championships are won, players just want to win them. Can’t blame the players though, rings matter when assessing a career, when assessing a legacy.

Will people be talking about ‘The Decision’ in 10 years when discussing Lebron’s legacy? Doubtful. Do people still talk about how Barkley never won a ring? They do. And they’ll probably do the same thing with Nash 10 years down the line…. And the same with Carmelo if he never wins one.

I agree that it is disappointing now but Durant’s decision will age nicely….Assuming the Warriors win a chip with Durant on the team. With arguably the best roster in history, I think the chances are pretty high.

Nonetheless when people talk about all time great PFs almost everybody places Barkley higher than Kevin McHale. If McHale had been a #1 option for most of his career I have no doubt that he would have been putting up 25/10/2 seasons routinely, albeit he wouldn’t have three championships, probably wouldn’t have any. Sometimes invidual accolades and stats are heavily weighed when assessing legacies.

Durant had averaged over 27 PPG in his last six healthy seasons, he has already won 4 scoring titles despite playing with another elite scorer in Westbrook and being just 27 years old. IMO he was maybe going to go down as the greatest scorer in NBA history, win a few more scoring titles and possible even chase Kareem’s career points total. If he stays with Curry and Klay for the next chapter of his career (provided he resigns and Curry does as well) and his numbers drop, his legacy as an individual great actually might take a hit.

As a Thunder fan, and basketball fan in general I’m absolutely disgusted. I truely thought he was the type of player to choose loyalty above all else and expected him to play his whole career in OKC.

Thanks for waiting until a holiday to announce your disloyalty, you have ruined a lot of people’s day on what’s supposed to be a day of rememberence and celebration.

I understand this raises his chances of getting a ring, but by what? 5%? It’s not as if OKC was a bad team, they almost beat the Warriors, then the Warriors didn’t even win the chip anyways. They’re now going to be the most overpowered team in sports history.

I realize he’s salty because Westbrook was the better player this year, but give me a break, the fans loved him more than Westbrook by a long shot. The only good thing about this is the money it frees up to land potentially 1 really good player or 2-3 decent ones. Maybe the chemistry will be better with a new set of players, I honestly don’t think Durant & Westbrook ever got along very well, they were just good at hiding it.

I hope he realizes Steph passes the ball less than Westbrook, I hope he enjoys being a glorified spot up shooter because that’s all he will be in GS.

Curry may pass less than Russ, but the Warriors pass more than the Thunder. You don’t need stats to know that the Warriors are better at moving the ball, but just in case: GSW averaged 28 assists a game this past season to the Thunder’s 23.

I’m definitely disappointed in Durant’s decision, but at the very least, we will be able to see Durant play within a sophistacated NBA offense, something I will be looking forward to.

Passing the ball around for 18-23 seconds until they find an open 3 pointer isn’t really what I call superior ball movement. Call me old fashioned.

GSW don’t really have any slashers outside of Iggy, Livingston and Barnes(occasionally), so of course as a team they’re going to get more assists, much easier to assist on a jump shot than a drive. Westbrook drives almost every play and still gets the assists to boot.

Not shocked. He needed to get out of OKC. He was NOT WINNING. Point blank period. Now he has the chane to win a title. GS is the best situation for him. Westbrook is gonna leave to next year, Presti has his work cut out. OKC is falling fast

I feel bad for OKC fans, but I understand why KD left. Presti for all his solid moves made a lot of misteps and some crazy deals in the name of saving money. Plus he waited too long to bring a new coach in when it was clear Scott Brooks couldn’t help the team continue to improve.

I can’t wait to draft Westbrook to my fantasy team next year. Durant probably taints his legacy,as he will likely never be considered a better player than Steph Curry. The NBA may be borderline uncompetitive for at least two seasons, but at least we all have the draft to look forward to. I bet within three years Durant will be the face of a tech startup.

I agree, I miss back when almost every team had 1-2 marquee players. Now days there’s only like 3-4 teams that even have a legitimate shot at winning the championship. It’s boring to be quite honest.

Growing up I had so many favorite players and actually liked watching just about every team, but now there’s a lot of teams that are downright painful to watch because they’re so bad.

Then there’s the Warriors who are also painful to watch (especially during the regular season) because it feels like it’s an automatic win, why bother even trying?

You know it has to be really discouraging to the others players in the league, knowing that no matter how hard they play they have absolutely no chance of winning a championship.

otherwise OKC Beats Golden State in the Western Conf Finals…….

Coach Donovan Cracked the code to beating the Warriors by putting a Center on Steff & Pounding the Ball inside to Limit long rebounds & thuis stifling the Warriors’ transition game……

This is a Thousand times Worse than Lebron to Miami ……. Cleveland was Never winning w/ the team they had & Miami was Not even a Playoff team…….. Wade was Already past his prime & struggling w/ Career threatening injuries……..

Looking back that was a real Risk for James to go to Miami in Comparison……….. Just Shocking for a Top Player in his prime would refuse the Challenge & take the EZ way out……..

How is this any different than LeBron in Miami chasing championships? Or last year L Aldridge joining the Spurs. It’s how championships happen these days, teams collecting stars. Cavs did it, Spurs did it, Miami did it, now Warriors are doing it.

In the NBA summer league Greg Anthony keeps talking about Durant thinking they weren’t able to get over the hump. LOL they were already at the hump! Shup up Greg Anthony. He talks about all of these guys going to different teams in the past…nobody has EVER been in the conference finals then went and joined the team that beat them.

If he stays in OKC he has one year to win a championship before westbrook leaves, if he goes to GSW he has a chance to win a ring for at least 3 yrs. Sad for OKC fanbase, not great for the nba really, but the move is understandable. Had OKC not fell apart and lost 3 straight in the wcf , his decision would have been tougher.

Durant is my favorite player in the league, but I am so disappointed that he is joining the Warriors. He wants to be the best, but the way I see it is that to be the best you need to beat the best…..not join them. I gave lebron a lot of crap when he left Cleveland…..and now I will give durant crap too, again durant has been my favorite player since he entered the league, but I just lost a lot of respect for him as a basketball player. I said it when lebron left to Miami and I’ll say it now, I hope durant doesn’t win a championship with the warriors…..smh….. I really believe he could have been apart of something really special in okc. And even if he goes back to okc (a la lebron) and wins a  championship for them, I just feel it wont be the same as winning won there and never leaving. I really am disappointed with this decision, but good for the Warriors I guess. Also can’t wait to see westbrook play a whole year without durant….Dude is gone put up monster stats…THUNDER UP

This was the best move for him if his main goal is to win a championship. It’s hard to argue with that.

However, gs will not be his team and even if he does win a championship there it won’t reflect nearly as well on his legacy as winning one in okc was. While it’s true that championships are championships, how you win them is important too. You can’t tell me that lebron winning a ring in Cleveland this season was equivalent in terms of importance to his legacy relative to the first 2 he won in Miami. I don’t hate Durant and can respect his decision, but I have to admit I was rooting for him to stay in okc. It just seems like he should’ve been one of those guys to play his whole career there.

man that’s terrible news for my Thunder.

I just wrote a few hours ago KD will do the right decision for him, regardless of where he goes but this is clearly a bummer. Actually THE bummer. F*ck me sideways I’m very disappointed now and never really thought he would pull off this move after the WCF and all what Draymond did there.

Well the Thunder will need to bounce back and this is no easy task but they are a strong team, have talent and will be relevant no matter what for at least a year.

Man KD, you better prepare to get the LBJ treatment now not for how you did this but because you did this.

Joining 3 All NBA players in the starting lineup is not really ‘a place where you will grow as a player and a person’…

yeah, people killed LBJ for the decision but it was nothing like this.  if you remember, Miami basically gutted their roster.  they had 3 guys and then they picked a couple of guys to hold on to like Chalmers and they had guys on rookie deals like Cole because they were so cheap.  GSW is coming off the best season in history.  thats a huge difference.

we created this though.  guys are not happy just playing basketball and getting paid.  we put so much pressure on them to win and that becomes the standard.  just win a ring.  Lebron wouldve never left CLE if people wouldnt have kept saying he wasnt an ATG because he didnt have a ring.

on another note….this doesnt guarantee a championship.  you better believe CLE will be tooling up.  the West still going to be the West.  GSW has great offense but what about wing defense?  This isnt a really physical team either.

I can understand a change in scenery and Durant was loyal to the city by re-upping the first time.  OKC was a really good team however and definitely had the chance to dethrone GSW next year had he stayed.  there will be enormous pressure for them to win now.  more than any team in history.  that pressure didnt exist in Boston and suppose the Cavs had some injuries, next thing you know KD is a saviour to a storied franchise.

All I can say is a lot can happen between now and next May-June and dont be surprised if this team isnt as dominant consistentely as everyone expects.  teams will be gearing up with strageties and players specifically targeted at them.

Maybe there is one last chance if Adam silver now vetoes the upcoming Bogut trade for basketball reasons and the Dubs fail to create the cap space needed or Mark Cuban is just Mark Cuban and Bogut fails his physical in Dallas and trade won’t go through…

Just kidding and bitter about what just happened.

The year they beat LeBron that he stayed because he felt like him leaving in his prime would be running. Dude joined a historical 73 win team SMH. I respect Dirks ring more than LeBron first 2 and I will respect it more than Durant when he gets one.

The pros and Cons of this move are unprecedented…leaving a teamate in Westbrook that was able to get to the finals once and lost, got to the WCF 3 more times and lost. since Westbrook joined up with Durant in 08 thier seeding has been 13th,8th,4th,2nd,1st,2nd,9th,3rd.

Durant has joined a team that went to the finals 2 yrs in a row won 1 and lost 1, Since Curry joined in 09 their seeding has been 13th,12th,13th,6th,6th,1st,1st.

Looking at the last 2 seasons okc didnt make the playoffs in 14-15 injuries. GSW wins title.

15-16 OKC takes GSW to the brink of elimination but then crumbles in game 5,6,7. GSW loses game 7 of the Finals at home.

My opinion on this really is more about that one clear fact than any other going forward:

He and Westbrook could not beat GSW in a 7 game series this year, and that was enough for him to join them.

A coward’s move, plain and simple. KD couldn’t beat them because KC choked when it really mattered, so KDs answer is to join them. If there is any karma in the world, the Warriors won’t win squat and KD will be blamed for messing with the chemistry.

I’ve seen a few comments talking about how the Thunder have the money to get some role players etc. that’s not the case. They are right at the cap, and anyone worth signing has already gone elsewhere. To me everything revolves around Westbrook. If he doesn’t sign an extension he needs to be traded for the future, and as painful as it is we are in for another rebuild.

I also think this will be an interesting scenario for the Warriors. Over the past two years KD has seemed to me to be the biggest reason why the Thunder play lots of isolation. It was always blamed on Brooks, but nothing changed when a new ‘ball movement’ coach was brought in. KD also fades to the perimeter and waits to get the ball swung to him, he’s never seemed very keen to run around screens etc. Of course, he’s such a good scorer so it works OK, but it won’t click on Golden State. Therefore, it will be interesting on the Dubs to see if he coexists nicely from the go or if there is some friction if he doesn’t adjust off the bat

Finally, everyone is whining about how he left to get rings on a good team, but those same people are the ones who created this culture. NBA fans and the media are obsessed with titles, and this mindset will always drive stars together because in the end that’s all that is remembered. James went from villain to champion in 2 seasons, and after that no one really. cared that he bolted. If fans of the league want things to be competitive and for players to run their own teams, they need to develop more sophisticated opinions on greatness and what makes a successful career

OKC fans are dirty (as you would be), but he gave them 9 years. Think about how long that is. Where were you 9 years ago?

I just want to see the extreme version of the death lineup in action now. Green comes off a pick and Curry is doubled, so who do you leave open – KD, Klay or Iggy? You’d be better off letting Green dunk the ball all game..! Will be scary once GS work it out.

For theThunder, the plus is that Westbrook will average a million points per game now

This what nba get for slapping real hoopheads in face by trying to rig finals w draymond suspension and worst finals officiating in history of nba. Durant slappin nba right back in face for being on brons d***. All nba had to do was let finals play out naturally w/out rigged officiating and bogus draymond suspension and none of this would have happened.

Can you imagine Jerry West in negotations with KD and Steph telling them that alone neither of them could beat Lebron + Healthy Cavs.

So good players want to get together to win a championship, good for them, but this makes the league less competitive. I don’t watch basketball for the highlights or the legacy… I want to see competitive games. maybe some people like dream teams destroying everyone else.. not me. I’m absolutely disappointed.
