Where are all my Mulsims at!? Just wondering whether anyone else was a fellow brother, since Ramadan(for where I live) starts tommorow.

For those of you that don’t know, Ramadan is a month where all Muslims go from sunrise to sunset without any food or water. We genaerally wake up just before sunrise to eat, and then eat right after sunset. And yes, it is posible. The first year I kept all 30 fasts was 2 years ago when I was 12. I was able to stay in Basketball shape, and all was fine. However last year, I was in great shape heading into the month, but imeadiatly after, I had trouble getting up and down the floor, which resulted in me getting cut from my HS team. But this year I am ready, I got a plan, and I will survive.

Man I could not do that.  I remember seeing last year a Minnesota Vikings safety (Can’t remember who but I had never heard of him) went through a month of Ramadan in the middle of OTAs and preseason games.  How an NFL player could do that and stay in game shape and not dehydrate is ridiculous

Yeah, I remember that segment on ESPN last year, Hussien Abdullah, and his brother Hamza Abdullah.

I know what you mean man, I’s just pure will and determination. Hakeem Olajuwon once got player of the month in a month in which a majority of his games were during ramadan, although I believe ramamdan was in February at that time of year, so he was probably able to drink and eat by game time.

@RipTractor, anything could happen if you put your mind to it. I am a 14 year old 6’1 athlete, I eat a lot off food, but still every year, I am able to manage. It’s all about getting enough sleep. My grades were screwed up from the start, since the whole first month of school was during Ramadan. I remember being so sleepy and out of it, but I found a way, but now I know how to better stay focused, so hopfully I don’t mess up my grades in the first two weeks, lol.

I don’t want to make a new post, so Thanks for the support Scott!

First:Happy Ramadan @ aamir543 and All Muslims here and everywhere,Ramadan has already started in Egypt and I am already 3 hours since my last time to dring btw Hakeem Olajuwon was noted as sometimes playing better during Ramadan, and in 1995 he was named NBA Player of the Month in February, even though Ramadan began on February 1 of that year http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hakeem_Olajuwon#Muslim_faith @ RIP TRACTOR:well I don’t know if I am the best person to tell you about the point, but the general idea is to feel for the poor people,it is to think about those who actually lives with hunger and thirst ,so that you can

Good luck aamir, and may the United States bow their heads in shame as they wage an illegal war in Libya during a month which is so sacred to muslims and continuosly bomb innocent people for thier own personal profit.

If you wish to know the truth you may listen to me, but if you wish to know american propoganda covered up by your government and thrown back at you consistantly by your media then go right ahead. In 42 years of power Gaddafi has made made Libya a relevant state and transformed them from what they were before he was in power. The rebels are fellow Libyans who don’t care about human life and will and have done everything to get power. They are not the majority, in fact Gaddafi supporters are. These rebels feel he has corrupted thier country and that he is the only one who profits from their lives(not true). All that is well and fine, if they felt he was in the wrong then peacful protests and mass public gatherings among those people would have sufficed(look at egypt and tunisia, they did it peacfully), but no instead they choose to bring terror to the libyan people by military action. But, the most disgusting part of all is that NATO(U.S. led) is supporting these rebels by bombing. They have no right in duing so, they are not the world police and have no right to gather opinions on other countries issues, unless these issues will hurt them, which in this case they won’t. If NATO had any respect for people the least they could have done was fight Gaddafi and his men on the ground and not bomb from overhead.

Shareef Abdur-Raheem and Hakeem Olajuwon are two players I know that did the Ramadan. I’m curious as to how they manage to sustain energy and strength to play, and they would do this during the season.

Ramadan Mubarak brother! Lol I got soccer tryouts this weekend so it’s going to be mad hard. But I’m glad Ramadan was earlier this year so most of it will be done before our actual season starts.

Not really huge into religious beliefs…I am interested in study many of them though.  I will give it a try this year.  See the struggle…maybe gain more of a prospective on Muslim lifestyle.

I know loads of people who are doing Ramadan, I don’t know how they manage it but they have wonderful dedication and find it very fulfilling. Some will even do an extra 6 days fasting after the first EID.

Props to your self discipline, I remember reading that Shareef Abur Raheem would lose about 10-15lbs every Ramadan. I identify as agnostic, but I have nothing but respect for those strong in their religious beliefs.
