thetruthParticipantOden likely done with fractured patellaComment Email Print Share Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden will likely miss the season after fracturing his left patella during a game against Houston on Saturday night.
Oden will undergo surgery, the Trail Blazers said.
The 7-foot center dropped to the floor clutching his left knee and grimacing after colliding with a driving Aaron Brooks midway through the first quarter.

He was almost immediately surrounded by trainers and physicians. The crowd at the Rose Garden stood and chanted “Oden! Oden!”
The game was stopped for some 7 minutes. Finally, Oden was gently moved to a stretcher and wheeled from the court. He underwent an MRI shortly thereafter.
Oden, the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA draft out of Ohio State, has been plagued by injuries for his entire NBA career.
The 7-footer missed his rookie season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee. Last season, Oden sat out six games after injuring his right foot in the season opener against the Lakers, then missed 14 games after the All-Star break with a bone chip in his left knee. He finished the season averaging 8.9 points and 7 rebounds.
Oden lost weight during the offseason and was averaging 11.7 points and 8.8 rebounds this season as a starter.
The Blazers have been beset by injuries. Starting forward Nicolas Batum needed shoulder surgery just before the opener. Fellow forward Travis Outlaw fractured his foot in mid-November and required surgery.
Forward Rudy Fernandez was out of Saturday night’s game with sciatic pain and set to undergo an MRI. It was uncertain if he would be with the team on an upcoming four-game road trip starting with the Knicks on Monday.
Even coach Nate McMillan was set to undergo surgery Monday after rupturing his right Achilles’ tendon during practice.
The coach was participating in practice because the team is so short-handed. He will miss the team’s upcoming road trip, replaced by assistant coach Dean Demopoulos.

RUDEBOYStop hating on Oden…At the time 20 out the 30 GMs wanted to take Oden over Durant….Its becuz he plays for portland and the Jordan & Sam Bowie comparisons will always be there..Durant will never be Jordan and Oden plays much better defense than Bowie….Why is nobody talking bout Toronto passing over Brandon Roy & Rudy Gay for Bargnani…Or Milwaukee picking Bogut over Chris Paul & Deron Williams..Its becuz Oden plays for Portland……

THUNDERstruckParticipantbecause bargnani is in toronto and we dont care about them.. let them suck (those idiots)
and we just feel bad for the hawks and milwaukee we just let them know they screwed up no need to rub it in..
BUT PORTLAND… oden was all hype he wasnt even all that good at Ohio. durant was a monster.. i know big men are rarer than scoring forwards. but durant had what it took to be special. oden was ALL hype, ALL hype.. plus everything portland does is more inflated in peoples eyes because they are such a good team and that 2008 draft could be what makes the difference between them being a DYNASTY and a good squad that never goes anywhere

Dtay2152Participantyou mean the 07 draft? just what this site needs, another durant nut hugger. it was devestating seeing oden on the ground holding his knee last night. i feel like any chance that portland had to compete for a championship anytime soon was wheeled off the court with greg oden. its so sad oden deserves better he is such a nice guy. he apologized to his teammates cause he thinks hes letting them down. and thunderstruck the reason portland got oden is because he had everything needed in a big man to become a dominant force, especially defensively. theres more to the game than scoring buckets and thats what oden brought to the table, great defense, shot blocking and elite rebounding. please get better greg!

Dtay2152Participantagreed we gota find something to stay positive about but it wont be easy. oden is my favorite player on my favorite team and he is such a quality guy he deserves a chance to become what he is capable of his body just wont cooperate.

Russell0WestbrookParticipantI hate saying this but maybe he is sam bowie all over again. his injury problems will keep him from becoming what people thought he would be. with these major surgeries on his knees if he loses his athletic ability what will he be cuz he doesnt have a lot of skills. keep your head up greg and whatever you do dont watch the thunder and durant play

marcusfizer21ParticipantJust when you thought Oden will bounce back after a so-so rookie year… This is the kind of news that Blazers fans would get into a riot for. It’s definitely disappointing to hear about this… I mean, GO is playing solid basketball and to go down with an injury early this season… This has to suck big time…
