The closest scenario to Oden/Durant is Ayton/Dončić right now. If the Suns do not capitalize on Ayton if/after they select him, people will say that they should not have passed on Dončić.

How bout the Suns having the potential to have the closest scenario to Oden/Brandon Roy with Ayton and Devin Booker. And let’s say they went after Julius Randle in free agency as well. This team would only be a PG away from being very interesting.

In regards to your actual post though, I think people will just say Ayton and the Suns failed together rather than saying they should have taken Doncic

Ayton is the selection, lets not over think this..

Aytons physical attributes and skillset are generational and he deserves the number 1 spot on that alone…

Doncic is skilled but he looks like he needs to be in more NBA ready shape, I know the European guys aimlessly defend Doncic and throw all his accolades in your face but the fact of the matter is really simple..

His offensive potential is a bit capped due to his athleticism being bit questionable for your “star” or Franchise player..

This was before the lottery, so things may have changed, but CJ McCollum accidently let slip that the Suns had offered Capela the max on ESPN during the 2nd round.

He wasn’t motivated like Durant (he wanted to be a Dentist), one leg actually measured shorter than the other, which leads to all sorts of medical issues and Durant was awesome in his Portland workout. So they pick Oden(!!!).  This is not close to the same comparison.
