Such a shame those two had career ending injuries because they could have been unstoppable had they lived up to the potential. We got a taste of how good Brandon Roy was before injuries took over and he was a great shooter, good court vision, good defensively and clutch. Now, had Oden on the other hand was being tagged as the next Bill Russel with his skill set. Imagine a Bill Russell type center paired with Brandon Roy and a few supporting cast type players. I would take that potential any day of LA and Lillard. As much as I love LA, I would take Oden any day HAD he lived up to his potential and was injury free. You would see the following stat line for Oden injury free and living up to his potential:

I’m merely going by the Bill Russell comparision to Oden on this make believe what if Stat Line:

    13 points, 25 Rebounds, 12 Blocks, 2 assists, 2 steals.

i’ve hearing oden might be getting another nba shot with memphis as a backup….

i think an injury free oden stats would be 17-19 pts/13rbs/3blks

A healthy 09-10 season of the Blazers would have been a great team.

Andre Miller (was still good then)
    Brandon Roy
    Nicolas Batum
    LaMarcus Aldridge
    Greg Oden

    Jerryd Bayless
    Steve Blake
    Rudy Fernandez
    Martell Webster
    Marcus Camby
+ others that could also contribute

That team would have caused headaches if they were all healthy.

I’m just disappointed that Oden couldn’t stay healthy. We haven’t seen a true great center since Shaq and I think Oden would have been the next great center for years to come. He would have dominated with finese, not power. Watching him at Ohio State, his shot blocking was so effortless and he had a nice soft touch around the basket. Looking back, I don’t blame the Blazers for taking him over Durant. I would have done the same.

DeMarcus Cousins is a few more tightened screws away from becoming The Man.

but, he’ll never lead a team deep in the playoffs with his attitude, rubs teammates the wrong way. I watched him play up close and last year and it is really discouraging watching him chew out his teammates on the court.  I’m not sure if this was a bad night for him, but all he did was bitch and complain the whole game to his teammates.

He went over the top with Isaiah Thomas’ postgame sportsmanship gesture.

pretty sure oden had some incredible stat lines for a second year center during the 09 season before his final big injury…they were along the lines of 20ish pts 12-15rbs and 2-4 blks. Cant imagine how great he would have been with healthy knees in his 5th-6th seasons

I guess I’m one of the few who didn’t see oden as the once in a generation type talent he was billed as. I thought he would be a very good defensive and rebounding center but he was very awkward in the post and didn’t have great hands around the basket. He was the definitely the type of player who had the potential to be a game changer defensively but I’m not sure he would have ever been that much of an offensive threat. I actually considered Durant to be the better prospect coming out of college, even though I was one of the few. With that Portland team though, with aldidge and Roy, he wouldn’t have really had to do that much offensively. He could’ve played a role somewhat similar to deandre jordan does with the clippers. Still a shame we never got to see what he could’ve become.

Greg Oden averaged 16ppg as a freshman year at Ohio St, and did this while playing with just one hand (played the whole season with wrist injury). I believe Oden at his peak would have put up 20ppg 15rpg and 3-4bpg, couple of MVP and perennial defensive player. May have gone down as top 10 center of all-time.
