ChewyParticipantI just saw Kendall Marshall put up 14 pts and 17 assists and I was thinking about how I’ve hated on him a lot. I know the DiAntoni system is helping him, but he is still playing himself into a long term reserve contract- somthing that seemed ridiculous when he was in PHX.
So, I was thinking about how there are so many factors that go into whether a play "busts or not". The team he gets drafted to, the teammates he has, the coach, playing time available ect ect.
Name a player who was a "bust" and defend why it wasn’t the players fault.
My player is Marcus Fizer. The Bulls drafted the undersized bruiser a bit to high, but he still should have been a solid contributor. However, the Bulls decided to take a back to the basket, literally a "power" forward and play him out of position at the 3. He was terrible… and it wasn’t his fault. He showed next to nothing in college that says he could play the 3. It wasn’t like he was out on the wing like a Draymon Green. Fizer stuck to the post and once he got to the NBA the Bulls took the weakest part of his game and asked him to do it exclusively. Not his fault!

BlakesanityParticipantKnee problems hold him back… Former #1 pick (2007). Could have easily become one of the most dominant bigs in the league, currently plays as a backup for the Heat.

rileymcshea3ParticipantTyreke Evans, not really considered a bust but he was the numbe 4 overall pick. I just don’t understand how a guy can hav a 20,5 and 5 season has a rookie and then regress every year after that. Then again he was on the Kings, and that basically explains it all.

Memphisboy14ParticipantI never understood why he got called a bust so often. When he played (which wasn’t often) he was a very effective center. It’s not like he asked to have chronic foot and knee issues. People called Portland stupid for making that pick yet the other 31 teams in the NBA all would have made the same pick also. A possibly transcedent big man is more valuable than a transcedent perimeter player. I always thought that Kevin Durant was more of a sure thing in that draft since big men have a higher chance of being busts but, at the time Greg Oden was thought of to be possibly the next David Robinson, or Shaquille O’Neal possibly. Kevin Durant was viewed as a more athletic Dirk Nowitzki.
