I don’t know if it’s taboo to mention Draftexpress on here,  hopefully not, because I have several criticisms about his scouting report in their  just released "Top 5 prospects in the ACC."

    http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Top-NBA-Draft-Prospects-in-the-ACC-Part-One-1-5–3573/First of all,

"He can create for his teammates effectively either on the pick and roll or just by trusting the offense and getting them the ball at the right time, never really blowing you away with anything he does, but always being steady, efficient and productive. Not what you would call a pure point guard, Smith nonetheless should have no problems running an NBA offense, as he’s an excellent ball-handler, a willing passer and has an exceptionally high basketball IQ."

Smith, although a willing passer, cannot create for his teammates very well. He simply just doesn’t have a pointguard’s vision. He rarely if ever ran the pick and roll for Duke. As a matter of fact, he rarely ran Duke’s offense at all, and at this stage, he will have lots of trouble running an NBA offense.

"Where Smith might run into problems is when being asked to go out and create offense for himself on a regular basis. While he can get by players at the collegiate level thanks to his excellent timing and fundamentals, he’s not exceptionally explosive and doesn’t have a great mid-range game, not really looking all that comfortable creating separation sharply from his defender with his pull-up jumper."

This is what really troubles me about this scouting report, because this is really what Smith does best at the college level. In the NCAA, he is excellent at breaking down a defense and creating for himself in the lane. He also shows a very nice mid range jumpshot and hits it very consistently. There are definitely questions as to whether or not this will translate to the pro level, but in college he is actually very comfortable creating separation from his defender. Also, I feel like they are really underrating him as an athlete. He is by no means outstanding, and he won’t stand out at the NBA level, but he is a solid leaper, who throws down some nice dunks from time to time, and is pretty quick with very nice lateral quickness at the college level.

Reading this I just feel like they haven’t really seen Nolan play. What do you guys think?

Nolan Smith is 1 of those old school guys that will lure you to sleep with their unothodox style of play…But will burn you if you don’t pay attention to him..Smith lacks natural playmaking instincts be play point guard fulltime ..He must improve his playmaking skills to play at the next level..During his sophomore season he struggled guarding players like Ty Lawson,Toney Douglas & Tyrese Rice..And he’s too small & too frail to play shooting guard at the next level…But Smith is a tough and smart kid,he might surprise some people…People questioned Chris Duhon chances at playing at the next level. And Duhon has been in the league a few years now…
