Magic JordanParticipantWell the post is exactly the title. Do you think Vonleh projects as a better 4 or 5 in the league. I think personally while he has the skills of a 4 man he could end up being a perfect center on a small ball team, when truely he isn’t even that small. This site has him listed at 6’10" 240 and he definitely has room to add about 10 to 15 pounds. Long wingspan and a solid rebounder means he could be a pretty effective center in an up and down system. Any thoughts? Any doubts?
I also think that is where he creates the biggest mismatch on the court although the big man is going the way of the dinosaur and the majority of bigs are his type.

Moon RiverParticipantThis site as Jamaal Mashburn/Wayman Tisdale as a comparison for Vonleh. I see Vonleh as more of a Joakim Noah type. They are very similar in size/weight and wingspan. Give this kid a ceiling of Joakim and I would be good with that.

Hi its BenParticipant…But Vonleh has a jumper. Noah is more tenacious on D. I think Vonleh is a poor man’s Chris Bosh to be honest.

druneave3ParticipantBosh is favorable comparison but I would say that he doesn’t have the scoring mentality of Bosh, rather than saying "poor man’s" Bosh. I believe you normally save that title to someone with not a whole lot of potential, which Vonleh certainly has. Or maybe to someone who is a bit undersized, which Vonleh is not. Vonleh does have touch from the outside similar to Bosh and has many years ahead of him to gain an offensive repertoire and more confidence.
To OP, since I believe he is similar to Bosh, he can play either spot but he is more suited at the 4. He will need to add weight but his frame should have no problem with that. Depending on Embiid’s back, Vonleh is 3rd on my big board behind Wiggins and Exum.

juves4783Participanti bet vonleah can actually guard most small forwards because he seems to be athletic enough. he’d probably have trouble with the superstars but i think he could handle guys like parsons, tobias harris, gallo, etc on the defensive end. i’d leave him in against small lineup at the 4. make them defend with smaller guys in the post or have him shoot over them on the perimeter. i actually think teams would think twice about going small on him.

sportspolymathParticipantCan’t understand why he doesn’t get the ball more.

ibe12ParticipantLove Vonleh. Someone on this site compared him to Shareef Abdur-Rahim and I think that’s pretty good. I don’t think he’ll average as much as him in terms of points but I think he will be a better defender.

i’m jus so offendedParticipantDude is not a 5 or 3, plain and simple. He can play those positions for short stretches but if you run him out there every night up against Hibber and Noah and Dwight, you would not be maximizing his potential as a 4 with range

Magic JordanParticipantWell no center in the league plays Hibbert, Noah or Dwight every night. Some nights they play centers like Larry Sanders, Chris Bosh, Horford, Varajeo. In fact for just about every center that I bigger than him there is probably one sound the same size or smaller. Its not like he is seriously outside against those guys. Especially with such a wide lower body he will be able to hold his poisiton.

canesboy6ParticipantHe looks just like a young Al Horford to me. Might even have a better motor. I like Vonleh, definately not a wing. I think him playing Center for stretches is more feasable than you think. It isn’t always perfect. Aldrige and Bosh have been defacto centers at certain times in their careers. You like a guy whose a natural fit at the 4 who has the toughness to at least be servicable at the 5, thats a valuable commodity.

HitsterParticipantPersonally I see him as being mainly a PF in the NBA. He will be able to play some C and some SF but only for short spells. Also it will depend where his NBA Coach feels his wingspan would be most effective on defence either inside or on the perimeter.

GrandmamaParticipantHe’s clearly a stretch 4. If teams want to go big at certain times, I think he could survive at the 3. But almost all of his minutes in the league will be at PF.

TheLastWordParticipantClear cut 4 anything else he’ll be out of position. His standing reach sucks so you don’t want to play him at center.
