Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantOne of the more under the radar names that’s out there in free agency and hasn’t received a ton of interest from what I’ve heard. Vonleh played reasonably well for the bulls down the stretch last season but they didn’t pick up his option as they have a glut of bigs on the roster already.
Vonleh hasn’t really developed offensively the way most projected when he was taken in the lottery in 2014. There was hope that he could extend his range to 3, but it hasn’t happened yet. He’s mostly a guy who scores on putbacks and dump offs at this point. Still, he has long arms and is mobile for a player his size, with good ability to defend in space. He also plays with energy and rebounds well. Hes still only 24 at this point, so he might not necessarily be done developing either.
Vonleh seems like the type of player who should be in the league but could end up getting squeezed out by the market. But he has enough potential imo to at least warrant a one year min deal. So do you think he winds up in the nba next year and where do you think might be a good fit for him? Given the fact that they are thin up front, I actually wouldn’t mind seeing the lakers take a chance on him, given that the cost will probably be very low.

HobbyOGParticipantNever understood the hype of this guy..he’s a very soft big who plays scared. I see him being a jorney man his whole career. I could see a team in the east picking him up.

FrankTheTankkkParticipantWatched him a decent amount this year. When he first arrived on the Bulls, he definitely played very timid and passive. Towards the end of the season he looked more aggressive, explosive, and played with much more confidence. Will only be 23 when the season starts. If he lands on a team that can give him consistent minutes, I think he’ll be able to grow into a quality backup, borderline starter (on a bad team lol).

HobbyOGParticipantFair point..I think he might be one of those guys who need to land in the right system and right coach, like the Spurs, Celtics or Heat.

Lotto StudParticipantBrandan Wright’s name instantly intertwines with Noah Vonleh, for having similar expectations and not turning it on until the later part of his travels.

cominup7ParticipantIts funny you mention Brandan Wright, he’s the same type of big like Vonleh who kinda floats around the league for yrs just based on their athleticism/perceived potential. Teams keep signing them hoping they’ll be the ones to unlock their potential
Add in Quincy Acy, Alexis Ajinca, Miles Plumlee
Kevon Looney, Chris McCullogh, and Alex Len will join that list soon

RUDEBOY-ParticipantVonleh is another 1 of Jordan’s draft day blunders. After 4 years Looking at the careers of players they passed on Nurkic, Lavine,Saric,Gary Harris and TJ Warren!

Memphis MadnessParticipantSome cyber critics compared Jaren Jackson, Jr. to Noah Vonleh. Some even on the Grizzlies own message board.
What do you guys think?

Lotto StudParticipantI would like to step forward for making that comparison last November.

celtics1982ParticipantI remember when the Celtics had the pick, it was basically between Smart, Randle and Vonleh. Vonleh was by far the most raw and needed the most time to develop. I do agree he needs the right team and coach. He’s not even 23 yet. Rebuilding teams should be all over him.

The GoatParticipantThis is why you dont draft solely on potential. You would think drafting Kwame Brown would’ve made MJ a much better decision maker. Vonleh should head to Europe and be a well paid star, live the life hitting the Mediterranean on the weekends. I see an identical future for Marqueese Chriss too.

Memphis MadnessParticipantInteresting, Lotto Stud. So do you now think that Jaren Jackson, Jr. has more upside than Noah Vonleh?
Personally, I had JJJ 33rd on my draft day big board. My top guy was actually Mitchell Robinson.

Lotto StudParticipantWe will see in November, once Jaren Jackson Jr. is acclimated to his role and the opposing team’s starters.

celtics1982ParticipantWhile Jackson is raw, he seems a head of Vonleh at the same age. Even with Vonlehs play so far, he looks better than 33 in his draft. I can certainly understand ranking him lower because he is an upside guy. Thing is 33 is crazy for Jackson.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantJaren Jackson jr is already more advanced both offensively and defensively than vonleh is now after 4 years in the nba.

tblazer_NZParticipantI think he would be good on the Spurs or Houston. Those teams don’t have a ton of depth in the front court.
