I just watched the highlights of Vonleh, and I must say that I am extremely unimpressed given his rise on the big boards here at nbadraft.net and espn. Vonleh appears to me extremely unathletic, and he actually has trouble dunking (of course he can, but it doesn’t like effortless,) which is shocking for a guy who has a 7-4 wingspan. Quite literally he is a guy with a 7-4 wingspan that plays below the rim- something I thought that was impossible.

I think I, along with most nba evaluators, consider athleticism the number one tool in the nba. Vonleh is able to pick up some boards because of his size- he just looks so much bigger than everyone on the court- but he moves extremely awkwardly, and I cannot see how such a player would succeed in the nba.

It may seem like a strange comparison, but he reminds of Hasheem Thabeet- when you factor in his wingspan, they cover relatively the same about of space. We have already seen how he fared in the NBA- a guy whose body takes up a lot of space, with limited athleticism will probably not do well. (I understand some don’t agree with this comp, so just ignore it then, my larger point is about Vonleh’s athleticism.)

What do you guys think of Vonleh as a prospect? I would prefer someone like Grant, Capella, or McDermott.

He is a Good athlete. I can’t see your point at all. He is a good rebounder because he boxes his man out and shows good energy and hustle even when out of position to get the ball. He is a good runner in the open court

He is no Blake Griffin but he has no trouble at all getting dunks. Have you actually seen him run the full court? Just look at his steal and dunk in the first video in his player profile on this site.

 The Abdur-Rahim/Chris Bosh comparison brought up yesterday is pretty spot on to me. I really liked Shareef back then and always wanted to pair him with KG when both hit their primes. 

Vonleh next to Noel or Anthony Davis should work out very well to me.

Vonleh has the potential to be better than Randle in the long run..But right now im taking Randle..Vonleh is still a top 10 pick..But his perimeter shooting,feel for the game and post play are inferior to Randle right now…

I think Vonleh is a very solid overall player for his age. He also isn’t flashy which makes it seem like he isn’t doing as much as other guys. I’d pick Randle before him as well but I wouldn’t be disappointed if he was there when I picked.

 You talk about a lack of Athleticism holding him back but then you mention Doug McDermott in the same paragraph? Lol….

Dougie Fresh can shoot with the best of them but if you are knocking Vonleh for his "lack" of athleticism (Which is an awful assesment in it’s own right.) then how can you follow that up anything McDermott.

It’s true he’s not an explosive leaper, but he runs the floor very well and with that kind of length and size he can make up for it. Also, he’s really intriguing because of the upside he shows in his face up game. I still think Randle is a better prospect and I think Vonleh has some bust risk, but there’s a lot to like in his game and people should just stop throw in Thabeet’s name for each big man they think is going to be a bust. Thabeet was much bigger and he hadn’t shown any offensive skill after 3 years in college; Vonleh is projected as a power forward in the Nba and as a freshman, while he’s still raw and he’s not the smartest player, he already has range in his jumper and it’s clear where his potential lies on offense.
