Fredette About ItParticipantHow bad is this situation for the Brooklyn Nets.. I mean what seemed like a lopsided trade years ago which was some wiley Vets (Garnett, Pierce and Terry) for draft picks and salary fillins.. sure a lineup of Deron, Johnson, Pierce, KG and Brook looked great and gave their run but now geeze.. This team is in such a bad place right now.. Currently have what i think is the worst roster.. finally Joe Johnson’s contract is up.. Brook is well.. Brook.. Big man with injuries but has the most value on your team.. Its just a matter of time before Thad wants out like he did from Minny.. and only real bright spot is Hollis-Jefferson..
Everyone knows that this years pick is owed to Boston.. top 3 pick.. potential to be the first overall pick, but they do have their second rounder which will be one of the top so hopefully scoop up something.. Kudos to Boston.. Sure they will have a bit of cap space.. But no superstar will really want to go there with their current roster.. Possibly a young guy coming off of rookie contract and wants he pay day that his current team wont match but Brooklyn will have to overpay..
Fast forward to next year 2016/2017.. Cant see them realistcally getting too much better esp with the Injury prone Lopez.. I can see Minny and Philly with all their young talent growing as well as Phoenix and Portland.. so really one of the worst teams if not the worse team.. Kicker here.. Boston has the right to swap picks with them.. Boston will probably be top 4 in the east so lets say Boston gets another top 3 pick and Brooklyn gets a pick around the 22-25 pick..
Fast forward to 2017/2018.. a few contracts expire.. cap space (if they dont take on any other contracts from now till then).. again not developing young talent..sure theyre bound to sign some guys but.. Boston gets their draft pick again.. (no first round pick for Brooklyn)
I mean good on Danny Ainge for getting that deal.. aging Vets on the decline.. eat up the contracts of Gerald Wallace and Humphries.. they drafted James Young with the brooklyn pick last year.. and possibly 3 years in a row with top 3 picks while being one of the top teams in the east.. young team.. cap room.. tonnes of potential and a great young coach.
Sorry for rambling.. If your Brooklyn what do YOU do realizing this is your future

markfitz14ParticipantTop 3 picks three years in a row is best case scenario for Boston fans. I have continued to say I think Brooklyn signs lots of middle of the road talent just to compete for their fans. They pretty much already blew it up by getting rid of KG, Pierce, DWill. If someone offers good picks for Young or Lopez they might hope on it. Sign Barnes for huge money to steal him and prbly someone else decent too next year.

jabbar_medvedenkoParticipantNow is the right time to reorganize the franchise from top to bottom.
What I would do is bring in a great basketball mind, a Hall of famer to run your basketball operations. Guys like Phil Jackson, Jerry West, Gregg Popovich, John Calipari, Mike Krzyzewski, Pat Riley. They’re probably not available, but you could do well with a phone call to Jerry Sloan, Larry Brown or Don Nelson. Establish a scouting service, track players in Europe and in college like the Spurs do (they only drafted Duncan with a high pick, all the others were steals), form an identity with a proven head coach like Thibodeau or Jeff Van Gundy.
Search for young, available players in Free Agency (Terrence Jones, Motiejunas (assuming Rockets go after bigger fish), Jennings, Harrison Barnes if the Dubs get Durant) and squeeze as many picks as possible from Brook Lopez and Thad Young. Get some veterans (Richard Jefferson) on minimum deals to provide leadership to the young fellas. Then hope for the best.

markfitz14ParticipantIf they do this they will be the worst team inthe league next year. Id doubt that Russian Billionaire would accept that. But from a Boston fan yeah please trade your best 2 players for picks. I would love Josh Jackson in Green!

Andrew1984ParticipantI’ve heard some rumblings that David Blatt is on their radar screen.

Hype MachineWhere there is cap space, there is hope.
Aside from being terrible, theres something admirable about swinging for the fences. Shows ambition to win.
Players will follow the money…almost everytime.
Joe Johnson leaving is the end of an era.
The Russian owner is willing to $pend in pursuit of glory.
