jjonzParticipantLetter to Commish contract Hornets NO is not a City that embraces basketball. They are all about the Saints. they won 56 games a few years ago & were 26th in the L in attendance. Look for owners in a thriving market. I think Kansa City would do well. This year with a good team they are 20th in attendance. Had to sell out 14,000 for 13 or 14 games or jepodize losing franchise. How to keep this model up if the team stops Overachieving.

jjonzParticipantI don’t know what Contraction means. I think they should move to KC. New Owners could come in and change some things but how do you get people into the arena. Follow the Thunder’s model & build a franchise with a robust fan base. Secure funding from state. see if the citizen’s of KC would support the Team & then Move if you get the proper feed back

royk927ParticipantContraction is essentialy renting a player u dont own. Say ur miami and you want kevin love because his team is losing then he would be rented out to them but he would still belong to minnesota. As far as the hornets in New orleans. Its difficult because Stern is a prick and very stubborn. he doesn’t want the Hornets to walk out of New orleans even though there are way better and lucrative markets for them.

TallmanNYCParticipantStern doesn’t want to quit on New Orleans either. Which isn’t because he is a dick, but because the City could use and deserves some love.
Contraction is when a team gets cut from the NBA so the number of total teams gets decreased. Some people believe that there are too many NBA teams resulting in too many weak teams that have no chance of making a playoff run. Stern and the NBA never want to contract because in almost all cases that means less total profit for the league and the owners. Players don’t want a contraction because that means 15 less roster spots, so 15 guys that have to go overseas instead of being in the NBA.
New Orleans is a great American city and it should have a franchise ahead of a lot of places. Maybe they have priced their tickets too high for the local economy though.

MkadozaParticipantI dont understand how Charlotte got an NBA team and Seattle doesnt. The Charlotte Hornets were awesome, but the massive falling out make NBA fans in NC sceptical… especially with the middling -to-bad team theyve had during the Bobcats brief history.
Seattle has been a fantastic city for the NBA, and I know their are many fans still clamouring for a team. St. Louis, Kansas CIty, Pittsburgh, Las Vegas would all be great sports for NBA teams…
On a different note, I think the Cleveland Cavaliers should become the Columbus Knights… but thats just me.

Ahkasi ClayParticipantSeatle or Vegas would be the best places if they decide to move them,
San Diego, or Anaheim, but there are already too many teams in Cali
so how about a couple of dark horse cities,
El Paso?
Virginia Beach?
or we could really reach,
and say Cleveland (come on when was the last time they had a team?)

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantThe league would be healthier if it stopped putting teams in markets than aren’t big enough for the NBA. Big markets like NYC, LA, Chicago, Toronto, and Boston are good. They generate money and have corporate bases to keep the revenues up. Seattle was a healthy market that the league allowed to be adandoned. Going from Vancouver to Memphis was a bad decision as was Seattle to OKC. Shinn ruined the Charlotte market for the NBA and then ran off to a small, broke, and shrinking market (and that was before Katrina). No good is going to come from moving a team moving to St. Louis, Kansas City, Louisville, or Pittsburgh. The league would benefit from a second team in the Chicago market and a third in the LA and New York areas (probably Anaheim and Newark).

Can you please explain why? They have the best crowd in the NBA.

dmo21ParticipantWould another Canada team be a good idea? Canadian fans are usually pretty good in supporting their teams and filling the arena. Vancouver could have another team and I think they would love that! Also, I think a team in Montreal would make so much moolah! Another Toronto-Montreal rivalry would be great(the NHL does pretty good with it). Montreal is a big place and can withstand a franchise. Could attract Euro players just like Toronto, but maybe even more French players would play their so they feel more at home. Either place would help Canadian basketball, as it should be a lot better than what it is now, even though it is getting better.

bigblackNbeautifulParticipantSeatle or Legas got a team. But I also think charolette either needs to relocate or get a new name and color scheme. My friend lives in charolette and he says you can get upper level tickets for like 10 bucks…
