MalcolmxParticipantI’m not talking about Jabari Parker I’m talking about Jabari Brown. The former Mcdonalds All american is having a terrific season for the Missouri tigers but we don’t hear much noise about him.He is very well put together at 6’5 and a sturdy 215.As of late he has been shooting the leather off of the ball. In his last four games he has shot well above 50% from long range, and above 50% in field goal percentage as well. This season is averaging 19.5 ppg with 5 boards a game. He is not a top shelf athlete but he is not a slouch in athleticism either.I know he has some difficulty slashing to the rim if he has to change direction while in stride to the bucket. But his stroke from long range and his one dribble pull up in the mid range area with his good size has to be attractive some how. Is there any reason why this guy doesn’t get any love?

mikeyvthedonParticipantPlus, he was in "Stock Watch" a couple weeks ago as having done well. I think Missouri having 3 conference losses already probably plays a part in why he is not being mentioned more. They have been a tad disappointing, losing to fairly decimated Georgia and Vanderbilt teams. It also seems that while he is shooting really well from long range, his middle game needs some work. Hoop-math.com says he has only shot 10-39 (25.6%) on jumpers this season.
Even still, think that Jabari is having a very nice year and has shown definite improvement. Questions remain about his ability to defend and his size. His being listed at 6-5 does not necessarily mean he is that tall. Plus his length is not really anything above average. Has improved his shot selection greatly, though I still think from a NBA standpoint it looks like Jordan Clarkson is the more intriguing prospect. Even with his outside shot being shaky, his ability to penetrate and kick seems to make his game more transferable to the next level.
I feel with SG’s, you really have to standout amongst your position to make that next step. The divide amongst the position right now is huge and it tends to be dominated right now with either quickness, size or versatility. Jabari seems like he is destined to be a shooter and doing so very well. Another plus is he is still getting to the foul line at a decent rate. Just would maybe like to see more of an All-Around contribution to make him stand out beyond that.
If you look at the SG’s already in the league, think you have to kind of think where he fits in. Definitely looks like he has a very good chance of making the NBA, even has a chance at the first round. What is hard for me is to rate him to much higher than he has been placed right now. Guess he can still show improvement, work on his game inside the arc and continue to show growth in other categories.
Believe that he has indeed been shown some love on this site, if not people blowing up on threads talking about him. My question would be, where do you project him as far as the next level? Do you believe he has shown enough to be an early entrant this season, or that he will have done so by the end of the season? He has done really well in conference so far, though I guess people are down on Missouri with their shaky play against a pretty easy schedule to start SEC play. Also, how do you view him as a defender? Think that is still one of the larger concerns about him as a NBA prospect.
As far as college accolades, certainly seems to be looking like a relative lock for All-SEC, maybe even an All-American honorable mention. He certainly has been better than Clarkson in early conference play and through 5 games is averaging 21.6 ppg (on insane shooting, 54% FG, 53.1% 3PT, 82.1% FT). Nonetheless, his rebounding has dropped off and his steal % can’t be making the analytics people too happy. Will probably be in the running for Conference POY with Clarkson and Julius Randle (think for even how well Casey Prather has been playing, just feel those three are the best players in the conference right now). Even with these possible accolades, am not sure he pulls an early entry if he wants to go 1st round this year. His performance has been great, though the questions still remain in important areas as far as his role in the NBA.

MalcolmxParticipantI think Jabari is probably a legit 6’5 in shoes out there because when he stands next to other people listed at 6’5 and 6’4 he looks to be around their height. I know going into Senior year of high school he had only measured 6’3 in shoes but there is a good chance he did grow two inches from then to now. What he is lacking on defense is effort I feel. He has been noted for having very good lateral quickness in the half court but I feel he doesn’t put it to use as much as he should. He length isn’t outstanding but it seems solid. In high school he measure a 6’7 wingspan while being 6’3 at the time. I don’t know if he should enter the draft this year or not. I think if he can keep up his red hot shooting during conference play and generate some more buzz to the point that scouts are saying they will take him in the first round then yes he should declare. If not then I think he should come back for his senior season and he should be a lock for the first round in 2015. I think his Value in the league would be purely as a shooter. Catch and shoot, one dribble pull up and running off screens. He needs to use that strong frame of his and box out more on the boards and all should use his body to defend better even though that is kind of hard this season with the new foul rules.
Do you see a comparison between PJ hairston and Jabari Brown?

mikeyvthedonParticipantPJ definitely has a more NBA friendly frame. Plus he was measured with a close to a 6-10 wingspan, which really helps him on the defensive end. I know the listed sizes, and I am not sure PJ is really 6-6, though I do absolutely he is bigger than Jabari. Stronger.
Than again, PJ was mostly a shooter in college as well. He was at least better from the mid-range. Think he also is a flat out more versatile scorer though, he only played 23.6 mpg and averaged 14.6 ppg as a sophomore. More aggressive, while keeping TO’s low as well. Brown’s dimensions are just a tad less, though he could be drafted near a similar position.
Despite PJ’s well documented off-court issues, it looks like he is the more appealing prospect in my mind. The characteristics matter, he is more advanced on both ends and has a body that not surprisingly has already translated well to the D-League. Jabari could be a first round pick, just not sure he has the ceiling PJ does as far as NBA potential.
