Am I the only one who believes Stauskas’s "lack of quickness" is exaggerated? I saw a couple games of his and although he didn’t blow me away with his quickness like Lavine or Wiggins would, he didn’t seem slow to me. He was quick enough to get into the paint and past some guards, and it’s not like NCAA guys are all slow as molasses.

Now, this isn’t to say I think he’ll be blowing bast guys in the NBA. I just think he’s not being given credit and is already being written off as a future one dimensional shooter. I think he can provide more than just shooting, and I can see him realistically at his peak being a sixth man for a hopeful contender or even a solid starter for a playoff team.

he’s a legit athlete. forget about the color of his skin. he has a lethal stroke and has shown he can create off the dribble this year. Stauskas has a higher upside than Gary Harris, who many have as the top 2 guard in the draft.

2 inches taller. better shooter. same caliber athlete. can create off the dribble.

only thing Harris has over him is defense. not to downplay that end of the floor but..thats about it.

i dont think nik has a problem using his quickness or athletic abilities on offense, it gets exposed more on the defensive end of the floor. its the same with steph curry. he’s not the fastest or most athletic guard out there, but is able to get to the cup consistently.

I see some Dunleavy Jr. in him (only slightly smaller): smart player, not very athletic but decent enough on defense to stay on the court, good shooter, can create his own or other shots.

He is a solid athlete with ok quickness. I’ll say he is a notch below Tim Hardaway jr athletically with comparable skills as well. The site says he has good length, which I don’t see at all. I’m thinking it’s around the same as his height 6’5.

I don’t think it’s too much exaggerated. He isn’t quick as the majority of sg’s in the league. That was the same knock on Tim Hardaway jr, that he is a overall good athlete, but isn’t quick.

If his handles keeps getting better he won’t be one dimensional in the league. Because defenders have to play him tight being lights out on the catch and shoot.

I’m not really concerned about his lack of athleticism, that might hurt his ability to create off the dribble, but he’s not going to be asked to create a lot at the next level. I’m more concerned with the fact that he was never asked to move much off the ball for the Wolverines, he mostly waited for the ball. Probably it was because he was almost UM’s best ball handler this year, but I think in the Nba he will be asked to come off screens and I don’t really know how good he is doing that kind of stuff. Shooting off screens it’s a totally different thing from shooting on spot ups. I think he has to look up to JJ Redick to model his game in order to be succesful in the Nba.

i think stauskas is the steal of the draft.  he reminds me a lot of steph curry.  very crafty ball handler, high bball iq and lethal jump shooter.  there isn’t a shot that he can’t make and his playmaking ability was on full display this year.

He could be Klay Thompson with that great jumper. I’d say he’s at least an average athlete at NBA level, but has above average offensive game.

There isn’t that many good shooting guards in the NBA, so I’d consider him a possibility to start on some teams or perhaps have a Jamal Crawford type role were he is expected to be a volume shooter off the bench.

Seems quite a safe pick to me…since at worst he’ll be a 40% 3pt shotter and at best he’ll be a real offensive weapon.

I don’t think he’s really that bad of an athlete. Is he going to be lock down players like Paul George or Kobe? Of course not. But he has shown that he can be servicable on the defensive end and he is a pretty potent weapon offensively. I think he could be an above average sixth man in the NBA.
