When he comes back over will he be a starting point guard in the NBA? I say yes. I think his passing and shooting skills were just as good if not better than most of the points in the last draft and the one coming in 2010. What do you think?

Yeah I watched him in person a few times & he looked like a pro to me.  I think he is a starter eventually.  At worst he is a very solid backup PG.  I really thought the TWolves shouldn’t have traded him away. The thought of Rubio & Calathes on the same team would’ve been scary.  Could you imagine those passing skills?…wow

They wouldve been poor defensively though. Thats the same problem they wouldve had if Rubio was in town. Calathes would be a good compliment to Beaubois and/or Barea in Dallas though. He was the most underrated college player last year in my opinion. He’s like a watered down Shaun Livingston, or the now version of Livingston. ha

Not a great athlete by any means. This comes through on the defensive end where he would be a liability

I don’t know how good of a defender Rubio is because I haven’t seen much of him but Calathes isn’t bad defensively.  All I know is they are both great passers & smart players so I think they could’ve had a lot of success together…as long as they had a solid athletic SF which the TWolves currently don’t have.  Hardly any players can guard another NBA player one on one….it comes down to team defense.  They of course wouldn’t be playing the whole game together anyways…in limited minutes they could be very effective.

nick’s defense is average against not so athletic guy but below when matched against athletic guys. rubio defense is pretty bad. you need at least one of the back court players to be a good defender one should also be a scorer..neither of those guys are scorers

Yea, I dont think Calathes would be considered a good defender on the NBA level. He might have been a decent defender in college, but that was likely because he was playing against guards that were 4-7 inches shorter than him every night, which would have an effective on these college players ability to see the floor and get where they want to go.

Never been a fan of him, but he has size and the playmaking ability to run the point in the NBA. He could be a borderline starter.

It would be interesting and if he can develop a Steve Nash game then defense should not be an issue. He would have to be a 3rd stringer or back up with the Mavericks. They have Kidd for 3 years and also Beaubois who I think will be a starter with Kidd finally stepping down.

This is in response to your comment about Minny lacking a long, athletic 3 to help them on the defensive end….with a name with Gator in it how can you forget to mention Corey Brewer? Solid might be an overstatement right now, but a lanky 6’9 three should definitely help on the defensive end

Nick is a good combo guard. I would prefer him to play point guard because of his size to see over defenders. He isn’t going to overwhelm you with his quickness, but everyone isn’t going to. One example is Mark Jackson. Even as a young player, he was never considered a good defender and was really weak in his perimeter defense. I’m not comparing to the in playing styles. I’m simply saying many people play years in the NBA with defecincies.

He is a good defender. There is nothing wrong with his defense.

he should be i think he could be an All-Star he has size ability to run the point, and hes a great scorer he wont be a good defender but he will be a good player.

He could do well in the NBA. He definitely isn’t explosive, but he has good quickness and can really push it up and down the court for his size. His skill level is very high and he has a very quick release on his jumper, similar to Brent Barry’s.
