SlickBouncePassParticipantUnfortunately after watching some Sixers Preseason games, things aren’t looking good. Expecting anything out of Jerami Grant / Jakarr Sampson / Christian Wood / JP Tokoto (for God’s sake), is really tough to watch. Basically as fans we tune in to watch 3 players on this roster develop (Noel, Okafor, and Stauskas). So as usual, we have to look forward to next year.
I’m a die hard Sixers fan and as much as I enjoy evaluating the prospects, I have to say how Hinkie does in this next year’s draft is going to define him, as a Sixers fan I think we all agree that this is the last year of Tankadelphia and we need to focus on really improving our team and defining our style of play.
One More Year, and thats all I give the Sixers. So let’s look forward to next year’s roster and compare it to this year’s slop.
2016 2017 Philadelphia 76ers.
C – Embiid, Okafor, (Aldermir/Wood – def need a FA upgrade here (maybe Mahinmi or Zeller)).
PF – Noel, Saric, Holmes (will stll need a stretch 4 (David West will be a FA).
SF – from the draft, either (Ben Simmons or Brandon Ingram (Sixers Pick)), Justin Jackson from UNC (OKC pick + Wroten/Covington/Grant to move up), Covington/Grant
Guards: Jamal Murray (Lakers pick), Malik Newman (Heat Pick), Nik Stauskas, Kendall Marshall, Hollis Thompson, Pierre Jackson.
another option is Drafting Dragan Bender (Lakers pick), and picking up either Mike Conley or Schroeder as FA PGs.
your thoughts? will compare this team to next year’s Minnesota team.

trelos6ParticipantI think this will be their last year of "tanking"
Hopefully Embiid comes back next season and is fit amd ready to start his NBA career. Saric could also come over (although he didn’t WOW me with his play in Eurobasket).
Still; Embiid, Okafor, Noel, Saric makes for a decent 4 big men.
Throw in Simmons, who I’d say is essential for this team. He can make up for deficiencies of the PG and help to get these big guys some good ball down low.
Finally, Stauskas can hopefully grow into a decent 3pt shooter in the league and add Murray/Newman/Dunn via the draft also.
If all goes well, they should look to finish just outside the playoffs in 16-17, make the jump to a 6/7/8 seed by 17-18, and be a perenial challenger in the ECF by 18-19, 19-20.
Also, expect Minnesota to have a similar development, considering the relative strength of the West.

Adidas30ParticipantDon’t see Joel Embid playing a game in philly honestly unless he makes a total 360 turn. Trade him now and get something solid for him. He still has loads of potential if he ever gets healthy an is still very young!

PulseGlazerParticipantFree agents won’t sign with the Sixers until they show they’re competitive and move on from being treated like (whether they are or not is irrelevant, it’s an optics problem) the joke of the league.

SlickBouncePassParticipantProbably not next year but the year after, when they see the team is finally trying to win. They may not get top flight free agents, but need to pick up some solid veterans, and hope that someone they get (Simmons or Embiid), will be a transitional player that raises everyone’s game around them. I was just having fun playing GM to see what’s out there and to give my idea of guys I’d sign as support for these guys, to make it more of a complete team instead of young guys playing "uptempo" ball.
On that note, can we please play some half court ball with Okafor in the lineup. Let’s slow down the pace and play like the 90s Heat and Knicks, play to yor personnell. The problem is we have so much youth that its hard to coach those guys. More than half of these guys may not be on the team in 2 years, so maybe Brett Brown is right in just running them up and down the court and having them jack up 3s. It defintiely makes it harder on the Sixers defensively who have to rush back after badly missed shots (since they can’t shoot for crap).
For them to win, they need to slow the pace down and play some half court offense. You already went against the trend by drafting big men 3 years in a row instead of dynamic guards, so go against the trend and see if slowing the pace of a game down will help keep you in games, because if we keep playing the Wizards, goodnight.

BEARDED-DRAGONParticipantyeah, im glad you followed up on your original statement, because the mike conley or dennis schroeder coming over in free agency made me want to flag it as offensive… conley will be a top ten free agent and will not be going to philly. schroeder… i guess if if they backed up a truckful of money to his house that atlanta didnt want to match and schroeder decides he wants "his own team" to run, like reggie jackson, it is possible… but not really plausible.
and no offense to the sixers fans, but i cant tell what i want more… to see kobe playing like one of the greatest all time again and them winning some games (tho it would have to be a miracle to get them out of the bottom 3rd of the league), or them collapsing and getting a top two pick and philly dropping to the 4-8 range with thier own pick (probably equally unbelievable). i just dont want philly getting two top 5 picks.

SlickBouncePassParticipantThe one guy that said he thought Embiid was overrated, is mindboggling. He would’ve been the #1 pick in that draft (Wiggins questionable shot and competetive nature, and Parker’s conditioning and defense) and is still the best Sixers’ big man on talent. Its well known that Noel and Okafor are established one way players but true projects on the other side of the court. Meanwhile this guy is doing between the leg dunks as a 7 footer, and he’s still growing, per Brett Brown last checked he was 7’2”.
Not that you can really compare them, but it will be interesting to see how D’Angelo does this year as I think he and Embiid were similar storylines. Neither guy was the highly touted prospect, but established themselves as true prospects against tougher competition in college. So they stood out and weren’t necessarily the "next big thing". We dont’ have Embiid’s example yet, but let’s see how D’Angelo does this year and if it correlates.
Anyway, Embiid’s immaturity is definitely alarming. He needs a mentor (wish Moses was still around). I’d have him meet and talk to Shaq whose conditioning cut his career short. I’d have him talk to KD35 or Kobe so that he can understand that you don’t achieve greatness by sitting back and drinking soda. He hasn’t played at all so he needs to get roughed up and gassed in a game or 2 to realize lifestyle matters. Anyway, some guys get by on talent alone and have HOF careers, look at AI and Shaq. Some guys look after themselves and still get hurt, like Kobe. Some beasts decide to take care of themselves, lose a ton of weight, and in the end still get gassed in the finals, but whose to say it would be different had it been any other way, we’ll never know.
Embiid is too promising for me to trade him away and get what you can. Next year, next year…

SkalAndJamalParticipantSam Hinkie is a con. I’m sorry for all sixers fans. I would strike until this guy was out of here. Brent Brown is a fantastic coach but this definitely must be taking a toll on him. Drafting 3 pure centers straight for 3 straight years, making sure Saric stays overseas, trading the rookie of the year, and trading one of the biggest steals in last year’s draft, is unjustifiable(Stephen A. voice). I really just can’t think of a way to fix this team with how much destruction that has happened. I guess pick between Noel or Okafor, trade the other for some proven talents and veterans, use your top pick on either Skal, Jamal, or Jaylen(Ben and Saric both play too similar). Hopefully Staukas can ball out.

NBAjunkie81ParticipantI thought I was seeing a real life Super Hero… So I always like to see the 76ers do well – I fell for you & all the other Sixers fans, but you have to be patient… the Andrew Bynum / Arnotte Moultry trades Devestated your franchise… NO team can give away their two best players & 3 of their next 6 years first round picks (2012, 15 & 17) in the NBA & survive that… On the day Doug Collins quit in May of 2013 when it became apparent that Bynum would Never play for Phila & they gave a Truckload of talent & future picks away for Nothing, I honestly thought it would be 10 years before the Sixers could even hope to be .500 again… Especially when you consider that they had JUST enough mediocre talent remaining (Holiday, Turner, Hawes & Young) & locked into long term deals to NEVER be bad enough to get the Top Lottery picks…
So when you look at it from that point of view & you look at where you guys are at right now JUST 28 months later, I think it’s pretty remarkable & you have A LOT to look forward to as Sixers fans… Think about this: Milwaukee finally has a good team – they have ONE 46 win season in the last 12 years! Minnesota & Sacramento will be working on their 10th consecutive Losing seasons this year…
So you guys are WAY ahead of the curve… Honestly 4 months ago, It looked like you guys were gonna get 3 top 10 lottery picks & Embiid & Saric were going to be playing with those picks… I know it sux that none of that happened but it did Not disappear – Embiid & Saric WILL be in Sixers Uni’s 12 months from today… & those Lottery picks that you did Not get last June – you WILL get next June & it might work out Even better b/c I think you guys are gonna get Ben Simmons w/ your pick & Jamal Murray w/ that Lakers pick at #4 or #5… Add to that you guys Lucked into Jahlil Okafor – Nerlens Noel looks like a real stud… You have Three Monster 7 footers (Embiid, Okafor & Noel) All 21 or under – all of whom were at one point projected to go #1 in the respective Drafts – & they will be practicing together EVERY day for a decade…
I know this year is going to basically be the Ben Simmons sweepstakes, but you can watch Noel, Stauskus & Okafor develop… But next year, it’s on! I’m reading all over the place that Hinkie is going to use those 2 late first round picks you have from Miami & OKC to get an established star… But even w/o that, you guys are going to have SEVEN Lottery picks from the last 4 drafts on your team: Noel, Stauskus, Saric, Embiid, Okafor, 2 Lottery picks that I believe will be Simmons & Murray & 2 more late 1st round picks that I believe Hinkie is going to trade for an established all star level player…
I know it’s hard, but considering where you guys were at just 2 years & 4 months ago, I would be Very excited to be a Phila fan… remember just 4 years ago – in 2012, the Golden State Warriors were finishing a 23 win season, their 4th year in a row w/ 23 to 36 wins, so wiht the right prospects, your team can sling shot All these middling teams… Any bad team can mix a few vets & draft picks together to be around .500 – at least you guys are trying to do something special & it’s pissing A LOT of national media people off… That’s gotta count for something right???

Rip256With Simmons on the horizon and multiple chances to get him, I think the gameplan is pretty obvious.
If Nerlens or Okafor is what you’re building around (all they’ve got)…I’m not watching for at least half a decade.
