With the love – Wiggins trade almost complete and assuming the young deal goes through, what’s the next step for the wolves? What do they do with pek and martin?  How much value do they hold? What can minny get in return? Will they need to attach an asset(2nd rd, shabazz, budinger, gr3?) To make them more palatable?  Do they start the season with this roster? What if rubio still doesn’t find his shot? His he still the pg of the future? Would he be worth the max? Will they have another Bledsoe situation or be more beneficial to trade him at the deadline? Can this roster make the playoffs?  Sorry for all the questions but this can be a very frightening team in a couple years with the right moves and better development.  But after the thad fleece (if it goes through) all I have to say is: in flip we trust.

There’s a lot of people that think the Wolves should trade Pek, and I don’t know why. Flip himself signed him to the contract, he’s their starting center. Martin on the other hand was brought in because Adelman wanted him. I could see them trying to get rid of him because of his contract, but not now. I think they might want to keep him around to get the new guys up to speed, and then maybe trade him at the deadline.
Like I said before Barea has to be heading someplace being Flip has already signed Mo Williams. And I wouldn’t be shocked to see Shabazz go somewhere in a trade. But then again Flip drafted him last year maybe he’ll give him a chance this year. A chance he never received with Adelman.
All I can say is, these are fun times to be a Wolves fan. It should be a really fun team to watch.

Short term: Introduce Wiggins, Thad, and Bennett at the Minnesota State Fair this weekend.  Make sure Bennett stays away from the cheese curds, pronto pups, bucket of cookies, and everything on a stick. Long term: Get a new owner.

The team this season will be hard to judge where they will finish, K-Love’s production is a huge loss but if Wiggins has a good rookie year and Thad puts up say 15ppg then they may indirectly cover that. A lot will depend on Rubio and if he can increase his scoring but the team does still look solid and considering K-Love could have walked for nothing next summer, they have got a hell of a return.

Tank and wait.  They obviously aren’t playoff caliber this year.  They should be targeting one of the potential superstar bigs in the next draft.

If they keep Pek and Young and Martin, are they good enough to make the playoffs? no

Are they bad enough to get a top 5 pick? only if Adam Silver decides punishing us enough and lets us move up for the 1st time in lottery history.

Hence my not liking the deal for Young. I’d deal Pek to any team willing to serve up a potential lottery pick. He’s 28, not great defensively and injury prone. He can score pretty well and draws fouls like a boss, which is why he might have some value, but he’s limited and good enough that we wouldn’t be awful with him. Unless I’m giving him too much credit and we would still be terrible

They need to be patient and adapt to what their young guys show them this season.  They won’t be very good, but the fans know that and will have fun watching this young, athletic, and exciting team.

In the past, they have made extremely stupid moves with regards to surrounding their star player (KG and Love) with quality talent.  It is difficult to get players to sign (and re-sign) in Minnesota, so they should be looking to address positional weaknesses in the draft.  If they try to rush the process, they will end up having contracts similar to Pek’s current one, vastly overpaying talented players.

What this trade does is put Minnesota in a great starting position.  They have two guys with extreme potential in both Wiggins and LaVine.  Maybe Bennett and Dieng can be frontcourt starters a couple years from now.  With Young and Rubio, they have guys who are now veterans who are still young and have room to grow.  Hopefully management doesn’t blow this opportunity considering all of the pieces they have.

I really don’t think they will be bad. This year they had a better differential than Dallas who made the playoffs and this trade gives Rubio 3 mores athletic players who can all hit jump shots (Wigging, Young and Bennett). They aren’t elite shooters but you have to guard them. Lavine is also a solid player. If you just drop the positions and talk about an 8 man rotation half the players are veterans with a good amount of experience and half are promising talents:

    Veterans
    Pek
    Young
    Martin
    Brewer

    Young Guns
    Wiggins
    Rubio
    Dieng
    Lavine/Bennett

They lost Love, but added Bennette, Wiggins, Lavine & Young. Also Rubio should continue to improve. I don’t see them tanking…

I say trade everyone away who is over 26 years old.  Except Mo Williams, they just signed him and he can be the old guy.  But build around the young players who will be there in 5 years, so that would mean trading away Martin, Turief, Barea, Brewer and Pekovic.

Minnesota also has to tell everyone it is Wiggins’ team.  He is the top pick, and the only chance they have at becoming a super team, in the far future.

Dieng, T Young, Bennett, Wiggins, Rubio, that is a useful starting five of younger players, and they can add other young players and draft picks around them.

Has more scoring potential than Wiggins. Wiggins is a solid 2 way player, but Lavine will be the best scorer on the team in the future and may be already if they move Martin.

props to flip, Minnesota is stacking assests. I mean they have deing, young, bennett, and muhammad. This might or could end up being compared to the Herschel Walker trade with the cowboys. He got great value in return for a player thats testing FA.

Minny can do what phoenix did last year, which is not having a superstar but good players. Love was trash in the 4th, and Minny lost many close games. Twolves may surprise a lot of people.
