HitsterParticipantWith Darvin Ham having been released by the Lakers I wonder who will get the potentially most high profile job in the NBA. Agreeing compensation for a current NBA HC is very hard or I’m not sure if it is allowed so the search is via the best assistants, experienced HC nor currently in a job or possibly a top NCAA coach.
The move has been away from taking top NCAA coaches into the NBA in recent years and the money NCAA coaches get paid for a 40 game season they would want a lot more for the much longer NBA season. But could Dan Hurley possibly be tempted I wonder?
Current former NBA coaches not in work like Terry Stotts and Mike Budenholzer would be obvious choices. Bud won the title only two years ago with the Bucks and was harshly released by them last year. But might Bud be waiting for when Pops moves upstairs full time given they worked together for many years at the Spurs. If the Spurs will be looking to contend around Wemby and Pops might be finally getting a bit too old for the sidelines then Bud would be a no brainer choice.
JJ Reddick as a long shot has been mentioned for the Lakers but do they make any move before LBJ decides on his plans for next season?

BothTeamsPlayedHard-ParticipantRedick has never been a coach. If it didn’t work for Steve Nash, who will still be paid by the Nets next year, then why would it work for Redick in Lakerland of all places? If he wants to become a coach, don’t take the talking job at ESPN.

HitsterParticipantJJ was mentioned for a couple of HC roles last year and that surprised me back then. He was a good player but not an all star level guy and I never heard that he was a natural leader but he was a standout high caliber guy. He played under Mike K for several years at Duke but has never sought a coaching role since he retired or has any links to the Lakers.
It wouldn’t be say like Udonis getting the Heat job for example?
I don’t see the Lakers taking a punt on an unproven coach. Giving LBJ the job as player/coach makes more sense than JJ getting it.
