I pray to see the day when I may witness another player exhibiting the greatness and abilities of Kobe Bryant. I can possibly see the up and coming freshman Harrison Barnes fitting the mold somewhat. Some have even mentioned Demar Derozan. If Evan Turner becomes a deadly scorer than I can also see it. Idk, maybe that’s a long stretch. I would like others to weigh-in.

Have you ever watched MJ? It would make Kobe not seem so great. LeBron is better right now and he is not even in his prime. But the next great SG? Hmmm…Yeah I would have to agree with Barnes having the best chance. I have not seen him play in college so I will have to wait. Although DeRozan is one of my favorite players, I do not see him ever being anywhere near Kobe. I can see him being a J-Rich type in his prime.

Demar Derozan-Not even close. Cant shoot. Not as smooth as kob. Not even close 2 kobes mental thinking.
Evan Turner- More of B.Roy and just all around different type of player not as good of a shooter.(not saying he’s a horrible shooter, or a bad player jus doesnt match up 2 kobe.)

SG has been a weak position in recent drafts. Much success with SF’s and PG’s or even Combo guards. But I haven’t seen anyone lately who can be anywhere near Kobe. It’s funny too, because back in T-Mac’s prime, I think he was better than Kobe, there were sooo many good 2 guards. It seems like a game of the point guard nowadays. I hate the handcheck rule.

He simply is better. Kobe might be a slightly better scorer and on ball defender, but LeBron is a better passer, rebounder, weakside defender, stronger, and is 25.You can not hold against LeBron that he didn’t win. Who did he have? Jamison, Mo Williams, Shaq at 39? Big Z and Flopper Varejao? LeBron would have won 4 if he had Shaq in his prime for 3 years and than Odom, Artest, Bynum, and Gasol. LeBron got dealt with a horrible team and management and took them to the finals still. He knows this and will not resign with them. And when all is said and done, I bet you LeBron will have more rings than Kobe.

How are you saying that Kobe had a better supporting cast? The Cavaliers had the most depth in the NBA. Even Jalen Rose said it. Kobe might of, and let me repeat, MIGHT OF had a better starting lineup but the Lakers basically had no bench. LeBron had a way better supporting cast. LeBron might be a better passer, rebounder, weakside defender, and stronger, but he does not have the intangibles, leadership, and clutch factor that Kobe has, which can lead you to a championship.

Kobe has a great post up game, mid range game, foot work, handle, fade away…his game is smooth..he does things on the court we have only seen one man do before MJ…Lebron is just a big fast basketball bull with passing skill. He has not and will not develop these things..outside of breakaway dunks i never look at his game & say wow! i have to add that to my game..Stats are not the end all, because if that was the case we would consider Oscar Robinson the Goat, but it don’t mean a thing if you dont have MULTIPLE rings

It really irritates me how disrespected Bryant gets. The man has scored 81pts in a game. 62 pts in 3 quarters outscoring the entire Maverick team. Holds the record for most 3’s in a game. Has SEVERAL modern day scoring records… Need I go on? People act as if someone’s gonna come along and replicate what he’s done and that’ll be that. Ya’ll need to stop. Kobe Bryant is HANDS DOWN the best player of our generation. He’s also the greatest offensive player in NBA history. There has never been anyone that can do the things he does on the offensive end. Several players, coaches and ex-players have said this as well, including Phil Jackson [who coached Jordan if you remember]. People act like he’s old or losing a step. He’s getting older and dealing with a myriad of injuries, but he still averaged 27 a game on a stacked team while playing the fewest minutes he has in a long time. He’s still averaging over 30 a game in these playoffs. He can still get any shot he wants, any time he wants. He still wills his team to victory when things get tough. There has never been anyone like him, and I seriously doubt that ever will be again. You need to stop looking for the next and appreciate what you’re seeing, ’cause when he’s gone you WON’T see another like him.

Did I say that? I said he’s the best player of our generation. But, if you want my honest opinion I doubt the 81 will be broken. That is the single greatest individual achievement in pro sports history. With modern defenses, scouting reports, the physicality of defenders, etc… There is no way that should be doable. And, he should’ve had more that game ’cause the refs waved off 2 or 3 buckets, and he could’ve topped 90 in the Mavs game cited ’cause he sat out the entire 4th quarter. That is so mind blowingly insane I don’t know what else to tell you.

Kobe doesn’t get the respect he deserves because unlike Lebron he doesn’t come off as a personable guy which leads to the media not giving him the respect he deserves. Michael,Kobe,LeBron,Magic,Larry,Wilt,Oscar, etc etc are players of their own
there will never be somebody like them, each player is their own.
But there will always be another great player, maybe he might come this draft.
Maybe he will be Barnes, maybe it wont come till 5 years.
Remember, Kevin Durant is just reaching his prime we will see what he will become like in 4 years

The “next Kobe” is probably not in the league as of yet, or probably not even in college.

Some of the people that mentioned in this thread….
Demar Derozan : Has Kobe’s athleticism but no where near the basketball IQ
Harrison Barnes : I see him more as a pure SF, to me hes more of a Danny Granger maybe even a Carmelo Anthony.
Evan Turner : To me he has a chance to be a Penny Hardaway, instead of a Kobe. He has the skill set but not in the same class as Kobe athletically.
OJ Mayo : When he was in high school, I was for sure he was the closest thing to Kobe, but he has shown to be just a solid SG, I don’t see him turning into an NBA “Superstar”.

Keep an eye on a high school junior name Michael Gilchrist. He won’t be eligible till 2012 Draft, but he has been the best player in his class every year.

If you want to know what seperates Lebron from Kobe, its intangibles. Kobe’s intangibles are top notch. Perhaps as Lebron gets older, he will develop those intangibles and leadership that Kobe possess. But please dont make statements such as “Lebron is an athlete and Kobe is a basketball player”, because your completely dismissing some of the great things that Lebron has to offer as a basketball player, such as great passing, good defense, and great scoring.

There will never be another Kobe, Barkley, Lebron, MJ, Bird or Magic so get over it. Let the greatest players get that benefit at least. I’m not saying there will not be any that will be better than those six, but at least respect them by acknowledging that each of them had amazing skill sets that were specific and unique to them and no one else. As a very big fan of Kobe let me just say there will never be another Kobe, just like there will never be another Jordan, Bird, Magic, Big O etc, etc. Every player has a different set of abilities and different mindsets, some player possess more athleticism then others (Lebron) while some possess more skill(Kobe). Though players may have similarities to the all time greats, it’s wrong and disrespectful to say that a player is the next “blank”. Saying Kobe is the next Jordan is disrespectful to Jordan and what he achieved, saying guys like Derozan and Barnes are the next Kobe is disrespectful to him and what he has achieved, no player is the next coming of anything, though they can fill the void of what they player once brought to the league they are by far not a replication of that player, just maybe some similarities in skill and athleticism that can remind fans of certain other players who once played in the league.

The rise of fantasy sports have really destroyed people’s opinions on who’s the best & who’s better.

But then again, fantasy sports does tell you something. What other SG gives you the type of all-around numbers that Kobe does? scores, boards, assists, stls, 3’s, ft% .. we haven’t even began to add in other factors.

There isn’t a player with ALL of Kobe’s skills in the league, that plays the 2. I do see a couple people that COULD be able to be the type of scorer he is (Derozan, Nick Young), playmaker (OJ MAYO), or defender (MAYO).

With that said, I think Derozan is gonna surprise people. You telling me he can’t improve his basketball IQ?

Right now, Mayo is the closest we have.. but of course, hes no where near.

I’m not understanding why people will not admit that Lebron has less help than Kobe.

Lebron’s supporting cast is WORSE than Kobe’s, and probably by a long shot. I don’t see how that is debatable. Pau Gasol, Andre Bynum, Lamar Odom…thats enuff said right there, thats three 20 and 10 guys. Thats right, I believe Andre Bynum would average 20 and 10 for a different team. Odom is not quite that caliber of player anymore but he is still more than capable of monster statlines. All three of LA’s main big men are bigger than the Cav’s best by a significant margin.

Not to mention Ron Artest who would be Cleveland’s 2nd best player right now. You cannot underestimate his impact on the game with his defense. He proved he’s worthy of the praise in the playoffs this year.

Maurice Williams is a hooper, so I will concede that Lebron has a better point gaurd to play with than Kobe, but overall the Lakers clearly have a superior squad….

However, if you ask me who I think the best player in the world right now is I will say Kobe
