OhCanada-ParticipantAlthough it is early in the year it is early in the year it does not seem as though the Pelicans will be turning it around. Assuming they get a top draft pick who should they draft to build around Davis. The obvious choice would be Simmons so assuming he is gone how do they play this.

brodiejayParticipantYou’d have to think they would target a small forward if they’re drafting for a fit with their current roster.
Assuming they’re happy with their core (which I think they should be), Anthony Davis, Jru Holiday, Eric Gordon, Tyreke Evans, and Ryan Anderson should be given more time to gel and improve together as a collective group.
The logical fit around those guys would be a starting-calibre small forward. My order of preference if I was the Pelicans would be Ben Simmons, Jaylen Brown, then Brandon Ingram.
Ben Simmons is obvious if he is (somehow) available, but Jaylen Brown may be a better fit than Ingram due to his defense, strength and aggressiveness when driving to the basket. Ingram has serious length, but I wonder if his skillset would have too much crossover with Davis and Anderson as the other bigs.
The alternative to a small forward would be to look at Labissiere or Dragan Bender to play alongside Davis in the post. Bender is a capable (and willing) passer that I feel would compliment Davis’ game well. He’s 7’1" and has a 9’3" standing reach, so could play some Center alongside Davis once he develops some strength. Both Labissiere and Bender have good shot mechanics and length and I think they’ll both score well at the NBA level with time.
I think they’re spoilt for choice if their season doesn’t improve and they end up picking in the top 5 or 6 of the draft. If they add any of the five players mentioned to their existing core, I think they’ll be in good shape for the future. They’re already an exciting team to watch and they’re only gonna get better. They’ve got a solid young roster and if they keep the nucleus together for the next few years while adding complimentary young players, they’ll be a team to watch!

Lebron’s HairlineParticipantThey should target jaylen brown. He could be a lethal off ball scorer and defender for them. Simmons would have trouble getting his touches in the offense to be effective with ball dominant guys like holiday and Evans

markfitz14ParticipantDepending where the pick is, long as its not 1. They would be a good team to trade down. Maybe Celtics. If it were 3. They could trade Bradley and the 14 or 15 pick or wherever it is.
Holiday PG, Bradley SG, Evans SF , AD PF, ?
They also need a C. Asik sucks lol
OR add Sullinger if need be. He could play PF and AD play C.
That team could def compete with a solid bench for a title. and Celtics Could get possibile Elite Talent to develop.

HitsterParticipantIf the NOP did have a bad year and lucked out on a high draft pick then Simmons, Skal and Brown would seem the logical picks, Simmons and AD gives you an elite prospect to run in tandem with probably the best big in the NBA going forward.
Skal’s shooting and ability to spread the floor would compliment AD who could draw the double team and thus allow Skal quality shots. Also Skal being around 7ft would be able to shoot over a lot of Pf’s.
Jaylen Brown would give the team explosiveness in the back court and could help them run an uptempo style.
