breese227ParticipantI know a lot of people complain that we should do away with the Dunk Contest, which I disagree with, because it’s cyclical some years you get a great contest and some years you get duds. A lot of people forget that most of the dunk contests in the 90’s were terrible too before we had the 2000 contest and the Dwight vs Nate or even 2011 with Blake Griffen.
Anyway, would it not be just as entertaining if not more so to see a 1 on 1 contest between the premier players? game goes to 8 or10 and winner advances to next round.
Lebron vs Kobe
Carmelo vs Durant
Rose vs Westbrook
Monte Ellis vs Wade
Cp3 vs Dwill
So fourth and so on…I think star players don’t like the dunk contest because A.) they feel like they couldn’t do anything new and creative/scared to lose
B.) The new in thing is to just be there and be seen and not participate
c.)A lot of great players just aren’t great contest dunkers.I think a 1on1 comp with the best players in the league would be just as entertaining if not more so because now you’re asking star players to be more in their element and the competitive juices start flowing.
What do you guys think?

CameronParticipantMonta Ellis would dominate because he’s so accustomed to going 1 on 5.

aivsdirkParticipantyo i have thought about this for about a year now, prob wont happen because the games may take awhile which would cause tv programming crunch and more significantly we know some key players if invited would decline knowing they dont have 1on1 skills. still that depends on if there was a tournament would the seeding be. would it be random? To be honest it might have to start friday through sat. I do really like this idea though
Dunk contest hey some guys can dunk and some cant. whether they are stars or bench players im not as picky, as long as i see a good dunk that all i care about, but in reality we know how the masses think so because of ratings and money star players might have to start getting they dunk ideas on and participate in the coming years0 - Posted on: Fri, 07/05/2013 - 9:36am #813973

breese227ParticipantThat’s a good point about the time restraints.
I mean honestly besides the dunk contest or 3pt shooting, do people really even care about a skills comp or the shooting stars thing? I mean they could make it a two day event and still keep the Dunk/3pt events. Also it seems like star players like to be in the skills comp, because it’s not as hard as trying to come up with new dunks etc..That’s why I feel the 1on1 would draw stars, not to mention you’re not just out there by yourself which some players get nervous about.

TMoney617ParticipantAs much as I would love to see this happen, not many players would agree to this because of their egos. They wouldn’t want to look bad if they lose and also don’t want to risk injury.
