In what was widely regarded to be the worst draft class in over a decade, Anthony Bennett rose to the top of the crop while simultaneously taking a big fat dump on mine and yours 13′ mock drafts and all alike. Fast forward not even 4 years later (a time where just about all first overalls are easing into that life changing second contact) and he’s not even in the league.

On the surface you see a physical specimen just a few Baconators, Baconator fries, Cheddar biscuits, Jalapeño poppers  and Twinkies away from becoming at the very least serviceable. In all fairness, he has slimmed down some in recent years but it’s  also been documented that he just doesn’t have the fire to become more than what he is now.

Yes, his shooting is abysmal as is his defense but I thought he could at least stick in the league as an end of the bench guy. He’s a decent per minute rebounder (10.4 per36 this year) and his 5.0 ppg in only 11.5 mpg suggest he could atleast put up even 10 ppg if given the right amount of run. Let’s say a team consistently gave him 28 mpg, I wouldn’t see 10-8 being out of the question. Not world beater numbers by any stretch but at least good enough to be the 10th man on most teams. Is it his attitude and work ethic (lack there of) that have made 4 teams in just as many years give up on him? What do you think is next for him?

Just for fun, back to those 13′ mocks. I had it like this (this is bad):

    1-Len

    2-McLemore

    3-Zeller

    4-Oladipo

    5-Noel

When I think now it should’ve been:

    1-Giannis

    2-McCollum

    3-Schroder

    4-Gobert

    5-Oladipo

Renardo Sidney, Eddy Curry and Anthony Bennett would all be all Stars if they put Big Mac’s and Ice Cream instead of Cheerleaders on the other end of the floor

Couldn’t shoot, or play defense, and never got in shape.  Could be one of those reasons?

He still made 16M+ over the last 4 seasons, so don’t weep for him.  Hopefully he paid his taxes, and invested a few milli.

He played pretty well at UNLY and shot the ball well, and demonstrated a high level of athleticism.  I think that he should re-group, get on a nutritional plan to get his body fat down, and also get his cardio up.  Then I think he should go play in Europe and learn the game.  Then, if he can stick there for 3 or 4 years and learn the game of basketball and develop some kind of skill whether it be shooting, or defense, then he should come back to the U.S. and give the NBA another shot.  He has the raw ability, but he needs to apply himself and really develop a game.   In 4 NBA seasons he just coasted.   What a waste of an opportunity.

Still made over 16M though… LOL.  Good for him.

     My 2013 redraft would go:

    1 Giannis

    2 Gobert

    3 Adams

    4 McCullom

    5 Schroder

    6 Oladipo

    7 Noel

    8 Len

    9 MCW

    10 Nogueira

Can you imagine what Cleveland could’ve been if they picked Giannis instead of Bennett and instead of drafting and trading Wiggins, they took Embiid?

Kyrie Lebron Giannis and Embiid together.. now adding Korver

dang,if u cant make the nets 15 man roster.u are trash!!j/k..but he’s only 24,i dont think basketball days are over…he should look to sign with some team in china or europe..

on the positive side..he did make 15 million dollar in only 5 yrs…if he does positive things with that money in his community ,like build businesses or open a homeless shelter…he will be viewed as a success in life…

I was pretty drunk one night a week or so before the 2013 draft finishing up my final semester of college. I see the then head coach of wazzu Ken Bone at the bar eating some nachos with his staff. So I walk up to him and say who you got going number 1 in the draft next week. He told me he really liked Alex Len. I told i thought Bennett was going 1…turned out to be right…lol

Well, he should also try the PBA. Most imports do well in this league.

Kind of surprised he got dropped, while he hasn’t lived up to anywhere near his 1st pick status, he hasn’t been atrocious this year at least. I’d say his NBA days are definitely done then.
