    • Kim English may have impressed the most on day one. When other players were relaxing and getting water, English was taking shooting practice. English is mostly a spot-up shooter, but hit shots from everywhere around the NBA arc. Billy King later said that all you need to succeed at the NBA level is one elite skill, and from today’s workout (and his 45.9% three-point percentage in his senior season at Missouri), it’s a skill he possesses.

    • Darius Johnson-Odom showed a serious competitive streak. He played strong, body-up defense on the perimeter throughout the workouts and the five-on-five portion. His offensive instincts left much to be desired, but like English, he has one elite skill that he can develop into an NBA career. His huge vertical leap doesn’t hurt, either. He’ll need to work on his shot to survive.

    • Measurements victor of the day: Josh Owens, a 6’9″ senior from Stanford. Owens registered the highest vertical leap (both no-step and full), the most bench press numbers, the largest hand size (tied with Renardo Sidney), the third-longest wingspan (tied with Ricardo Ratliffe), and the third-lowest body fat percentage. Owens impressed on the floor as well.

    • Other intriguing prospects: Scott Machado (Iona point guard and MAAC Player of the Year),Cameron Moore (UAB long power forward and Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year),Drew Gordon (New Mexico power forward), and Mitchell Watt (Buffalo power forward).

    • Renardo Sidney came to the workout weighing over 300 pounds and left early. It’s possible his asthma got the best of him, as he needed to use his inhaler while on the sideline.

    • Pennsylvania point guard Zack Rosen hurt his thumb early in the workout, and struggled throughout. He did run the fastest 3/4 court sprint of all players on the first day, though.

    • Nets players in attendance included Deron Williams (who worked out at 8 A.M.) and Brook Lopez, both wearing Brooklyn Nets gear. Former Nets employees Lawrence Frank and Rod Thorn also showed up to represent their new teams (Detroit and Philadelphia, respectively).

    • Billy King spoke about his trip to Turkey for the first time, noting that he had a great trip, some good discussions with Deron Williams, and a good meeting with Eurostashed Nets guardBojan Bogdanovic. Bogdanovic is “anxious” to come to the states and play in Brooklyn, but they’ve still got to work out a potential deal. No word on if he’d join the team next season.

    • King also noted that Brook Lopez worked out at the center yesterday. One fun note: Lopez was practicing shots from the three-point line. When King told him to “get in his range,” Lopez stepped further back.

    • The Nets’ entire facility reflects Brooklyn. The sign outside the facility has been switched from the old New Jersey Nets logo to the new Brooklyn Nets one. More logos hang throughout the facilities and in the practice center. As MarShon Brooks once tweeted, the center court logo has been re-painted. The old navy pads on the walls have been replaced with black pads and more logos. Without some old pictures hanging on the walls, you’d never know this team once called red and blue its home colors.

    • A personal site note: Sebastian Pruiti, Nets are Scorching editor emeritus and current video coordinator for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, was on hand scouting.

    • One final draft note: The Nets have all $3 million they can use to facilitate trades, and that number expires a week after the draft. So not only can the Nets use up to $3 million on draft night to acquire a pick, they can use up to $3 million more after June 30th if they want to facilitate a separate trade.

Good info, thanks for that.  I have though, and continue to think that Kim English will be one of the steals of this draft.

I know Coach Pop and some other NBA execs are high on Sidney, but yikes, that sounds pretty bleak considering the official combine is just 2 1/2 weeks away.

Agree with joewolf… english was very good this year with the up tempo mizzou team and he should become a nice player from day one : a good draft choice in the early second round.

Machado should impress and attract teams in need of true pg skills. Underrated in my mind.

Bogdanovic still has 2 years in hos contract in turkey and has a "comfortable" contract… and as it has already been reported the nets should try to deal to get an early 2nd round (or end of 1st) : fournier, papanikolau and maybe aldemir could be their targets as they want to "go international".

I thought Renardo Sidney was training hard, shedding some fat (I think I read 20 pounds) and you still show up fat and out of shape? He needs to get his Visa ready.

here are some info on josh owens (I didn’t know him) :

    12/7/88 a little bit old ?…senior (2009/10 1 min played)… 6.8/6.9 240

    nearly 27 min  11pts (57% 62%) 6 reb 1ass 1bs 1st 2.5 f 2 to… during the last 2 years

if he shows he’s a physical freak he could find some interest as a defensive/athletic role player

The report said Sidney had lost weight, but apparently not enuffbecuz he came in at 303 lbs..And after only a few minutes he was blowing like Kat Stacks or Superhead….Thats not a good sign when your chances of getting drafted are already as low as Leroy Jenkins getting a date….

I think Sidney needs to go undrafted if he’s going to have any chance of being successful in the NBA.

The kid needs a reality check, if he can’t even finish a draft combine, what business does he have being in the NBA? If going undrafted won’t motivate him, nothing will.

Jae Crowder measured in at 6’3 without shoes thats not a good sign for someone expected to play power forward..

Robert Sacre was the tallest at 6’11 without shoes..That might help his chances to move up…

I thought Denmon had a shot to get drafted, but I think he may be a summer league guy, now.  He’s a true combo guard, not much point to his game.

The more I hear about Sidney, the more disappointed I get

Sad to say, but Europe or China looks to be in his future

Crazy to believe that he was considered a top 10 guy coming out of high school

I think it is time to wonder if he is even going to get court time in the summer league.

Renardo Sydney is a freaking joke nad might be one of the biggest wastes of natural talent I have ever seen.  Not only was he a top 10 guy in HS , he was considered the top HS prospect in his class as a sophmore and was getting Chris Webber comparisons.  Unfortunately for Renardo  Sydney fat , lazy , and stupid is a bad recipe for an aspiring pro athlete.

What is surprising to me is that he was bigger than he should have been in 2011 with Miss St, but was still pretty good. His numbers in the SEC and against good teams were comparable to what Cousins had in his one year. Regardless as to whether you think that matters or not, it was something he could have built on. What is mind-boggling is that he came back in worse shape, and never even played himself into shape. Now, he is showing up at over 300 lbs. to an event where everyone knows he has to get on a scale?!?!
