Loren Woods the projected number 1 pick? 2000 and 2001 were depressing times to be an NBA fan.

I remember anticipating going to school to use the internet just to visit this site… Good ole’ days! It’s crazy these links are older than some posters here!

NBA.COM Archived starting from shortly after it began back in 1996… Alot of the team and player links still work! To navigate later times in the history of NBA.COM, click the blue arrows near where the date OCT 22 1996 is at the top right on the tool bar. It’s pretty easy to use, and can be used for most websites.

That Mock was made in August of 2000..And as we have come to know, players stock raises and falls within a year…Alot of draft sites had Eddy Curry as the top pick in 2001….

This Mock looks so strange considering how things really turned out, becuz none of the players that were actually taken in the top 5 was in the top 5 of this mock…..

But give the site credit for having Zack Randolph and Carlos Boozer in the top 10…Becuz as we know now thats where they should’ve been taken……I remember scouts didnt think Boozer or Z Bo would become nba all stars…..

@RUDEBOY – Very true! If you hit the blue forward arrow where it has the date AUG 16 2000 at the top, you can see how GM’s and Scouting Buzz drastically changed leading up to the 01′ draft. What popped out to me is that Kwame Brown doesn’t even appear in the mock until somewhere around MAY 2001… Talk about a Dark Horse skyrocketing up GM’s Draft Boards.

I think I’m gonna waste a lot of time on this LOL. Back in 2000 I hadn’t found out about Nbadraft.net yet, but I remember reading lots of magazines and other stuff, so while some predictions may look shocking right now, they don’t suprise me at all.

I remember the hype surrounding Loren Woods, Troy Murphy being considered a beast coming out of HS. Also Yarbrough being one of the top recruits and seen as a potential lottery pick until his junior season, then falling down because he didn’t show enough improvements. Dan Gadzuric was seen as a can’t miss prospect in HS. Duhon was listed as a first round pick every season here, thinking his lack of production was due to the fact he had so much talent around him, especially Jay Williams, giving him little chances to put up good numbers. He was a lottery pick in pre-season mock draft in 2003, then he had a really disappointing season and fell down on the boards.

Some things however suprised me: I didn’t remember Haywood projected so high; also while I remember T. Morris being viewed by many as a can’t miss prospect I thought he had already fallen after his junior year; Jason Gardner, I recall that he got interest from Nba scouts before his terrible showing in Chicago when he declared after his sophomore year, but I didn’t think he was ever projected so high so early; finally it surprise me a bit seing Marcus Taylor and Keith Bogans being projected as 2nd rounders, Taylor was heavily recruited and Bogans was ranked as the 2nd best player in his HS class, I though his stock took a major hit after having a disappointing performance in Chicago in 2001 (like Gardner).

“Being a Lakers fan I am outraged at the fact that they gave up Lue. He was the point guard of the future for them and he has an abundance of talent.”

Someone said this in 2000, before Iverson stepped over him haha.

Yeah but it should be pretty obvious that some players weren’t going to get drafted that high. People tend to ignore skill and put way to much stock into how big and athletic someone is. You would think people who learn by now but I remember this site having Deandre Jordan as the number one pick on a mock draft and saying Derrick Favors and Fab Melo would be better than they have been. Next up Joel Embiid
