Two NBA general managers are torn on whether to select Perry Jones III in the upcoming draft.

"That sort of talent doesn’t come along very often," one GM said after watching Jones showcase his versatility in a workout this week. "As I was watching the workout, I thought you finally got to see what a freed-up Perry Jones could do if a coach just lets him be himself. He could be a dominant, and I mean dominant, forward with his size, athletic ability and skill set. I think he’s a hard worker and will be a much better contributor if you give him the chance to be himself. I’d have no concerns drafting him in the top five. He could be a home run of a pick."

Jones, a 6-foot-11, 235 pound forward, has drawn comparison to Lamar Odom.

"Of all the guys that are in your top 10, I’d have the hardest time taking him," another GM said. "I know he wants to be a 3, but I don’t think he does anything that we ask our 3s to do that is special. He’s not a great shooter. He doesn’t have a great handle. He’s not an aggressive defender. He’s got great size and athleticism, but he’s not skilled enough. That means he’ll end up being a stretch 4, which is a euphemism for a guy who doesn’t have a position.

"Could he be great? Sure. But I think he’s a major project and a major risk. There are safer picks in the top 10 with very good upsides. I think there’s a good chance that he slides in the draft as people continue to wrestle with who he is."

He needs to give up trying to be a SF and focus on becoming a true PF that has some Sf skills. I don’t think he will or can stop playing and trying to become a SF.

I hope the raptors dont get him, hes not small forward material, even if he was it would have to be with another skilled/scoring/shooting type sg playing not anthletic SF/SG hybrid player like demar derozan

He’s being compared to Lamar Odom….lets hope not…don’t need any more drama queens in the NBA!  Thank god all the Kardashians are in a relationship…he wont be able to hook up with any and start a reality show!

Im torn too, its hard to really tell with him

Some days I think hes going to be 2007 Lamar Odom

and Some days I think hes going to be 2012 Lamar Odom

Whatever team drafts him is going to be very significant for his career going forward

It’s time to see what he can do in a real game man, he was somewhat of a dissapointment to me, but to some since he had lofty expectations he was a huge dissapointment.

He didn’t dominate in college, the NBA aint easier.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba–draft-stock-of-baylor-s-perry-jones-iii-hinges-on-proving-his-consistency.html;_ylt=AnHJKBxsh8YHdglVSmiIfEu8vLYF In this article a NBA scout says it’s pretty clear from workouts he is a wing. He moves around off screens like a wing. I see him as a 3 who can play some 4. Perennial all-star I don’t know, but I just can’t see where he is a bust who can’t play in the L. Maybe I am scouting him wrong. We’ll see.

I see him as a stretch 4.  He does have a good handle, especially for a 6’10-6’11” guy, but he’s not going to be taking many NBA small forwards off the dribble.  He’s quick for a big guy, but he’s not quick for a 6’7” -6’8” wing defender and he’s not a good enough shooter, yet, to be a perimeter player.

He’s skilled, no doubt, but he disappeared for minutes at a time in college.  Would have halves where you forgot where he was.  The NBA isn’t easier, even in a different role.  He does a lot of the same things as Earl Clark and as a result, I think he’ll be a classic tweener/ stretch 4.

I don’t think he’ll suck, but I don’t see the future dominant offensvie player or future star many do.  I see a talented guy who will play 10 years in the NBA, but a guy who isn’t very aggressive and doesn’t play with a lot of fire.  Also a 6’11”  very athletic guy who blocked 1 shot per game in college, and has never been committed to defense.
