HobbyOGParticipantIMO, I thin each team that does not make the playoffs get one ping pong ball and pull the balls live on TV. All this tanking talk is not good for the league And most important the fans. It would make the game more competitive. What’s you guys opinion?

BrentSuriaga01ParticipantLike the 2014 I might have to agree with you for the sake of healthy competition.

TyroberParticipantSo you’re saying that Orlando(20-62) should have the same amount of balls as the Jazz(43-39)? I don’t think I can get on board with an even weighted system. But if you actually look at how many times the worst teams actually win the draft it is only a handful of times, but the 2014 draft will probably be a draft for the ages and I don’t blame teams for trying to draft some future great players.

ropeParticipantThe current system rewards teams that don’t even try. They should ditch the lottery and award picks in to the non-playoff teams, with the best team that didn’t make the playoffs getting the first pick and the worst teams picking down in the 14 – 15 range. This would create a lot of churn in the teams that are good, offer an incentive to try late in the season and, possibly, curb the dreaded plateau a lot of teams hit when they have managed to reach average, but really need that one piece to make an occassional playoff impact.

bobbybParticipantsystem works fine. The only think I would change would be to make the whole lottery instead just top 3 picks.

rileymcshea3ParticipantThey do not need to change it. The last place team still only has a 25% chance of getting the 1st pick so that means they probably aren’t gonna get it. Sure they have the best chances of getting it but its still only a 1 out of 4 chance. The one ping pong ball for each team would have been awesome for my Mavs in this year lotto. I would have loved of having the same chances as any team in the lotto to get the first pick.lol no but really don’t change the lotto to make it worst

HobbyOGParticipantTeams tanking should not be rewarded

phila9012Participantthen get rid of the salary cap so that when teams tank they lose money. Every team in the Premier league tries the whole year and spends what they have available because they are playing for position which gets them money like playing in the champions league or playing to avoid relegation if they are bad. If the NBA weighted how much money teams got from revenue sharing to giving the best teams the most money then that would help teams stop tanking but the league wouldnt be balanced, teams would be more likely to play it safe and stay how they are as an average team instead of blowing it up the 76ers did so they can be good in the future.

HOops1562ParticipantThe system is fine … if teams wanna tank then tank … but that doesn’t guarantee you the #1 pick …. just look at the past few lottery’s the last team that was the worst team that won #1 was Orlando in 2004 … so even if these teams tank what’s the point you get a %25 chance but it doesn’t mean anything because it doesn’t mean you will win #1 … if you gave every team one ping pong then a championship team like Miami could acquire a pick within the top 14 and win the lottery and then the rich get richer

The QParticipantThe only change should be that maybe the top 5 or 6 teams get a shot at the top 3.
A team like Chicago getting Rose is a joke, counterproductive to what the system was designed to do and simply shouldn’t ever happen.
And there’s also bad teams vs. tanking teams. Some teams are just bad (see Charlotte for basically ever) and then there’s teams like the 96/97 Spurs who just shamelessly tanked. There’s a difference.

Meditated StatesParticipantPrecedence when it does not increase your chances dramatically. Only change should be we should see the ping pong drops. All of them. Every GM has decisions to make but he should expect wins and hard play and if the players know team is tanking that is poison in the locker room. This draft is a special case next year. You try to put a good product out so fans come to the games and feel the team played hard.

DoubleNickelsDurr55ParticipantIt’s all about rebuilding your team to put it in position to win a championship. Whether its having a big 3 or tanking to get there.
Teams tanking doesn’t mean they will get a higher lottery pick or even make the right pick anyways. I’m all for it.

LipstickParticipantIf every lottery team had an equal chance at the #1 pick and I’m the eighth seed of the East coming into April and Miami’s a lock for #1, then I’d rather have a lottery ball. When a system favors teams to finish just out of the playoffs versus in, it’s got a few issues to say the least.
