juves4783Participantyesterday was my first chance to really see nc state and xavier. centered most of my focus on the 2 1st round prospects, tj warren and semaj christon.
tj warren – 25 pts, 10/18 fg, 0/2 3-pt, 5/8 ft, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, 3 turnovers
he looked all the part of a big-time scorer, knows how to get open and put the ball in the hoop. his jump shot doesn’t look great but he really made a lot of crazy shots with contact. i guess the biggest thing i took out of it was his ability to run past guys. multiple times, he ran past his defender(s) and got an easy layup. showed a good ability to get to the line as well and it appeared the refs missed a few calls on "and 1’s". think he is a lock for mid-1st round based on what i saw. i have him to the hawks on my mock.
semaj christon – 14 pts, 6/11 fg, 1/2 3-pt, 1/2 ft, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 7 turnovers
semaj looked like a stud in the 1st half. showed an ease to get to the rim. the second half was a different story. kind of disappeared from the game. he jump shot looked really nice when he did take shots and he had a highlight layup where he went up against a bigger defender, hung in the air and finished. the 7 turnovers is a huge concern and i expected more when matched up with a smaller, less athletic guy like tyler lewis. to me, he’s more of a combo guard than a true point guard. i had him at 20, but i think if he enters, the combine and workouts will determine where he ends up.
other guys:
was pretty impressed with ralston turner. he has a quick release on his jumper and was able to get his shot off with defenders around. another good year and i think he may be a guy that some will consider in the 2nd round.
tyler lewis played out of his mind. 8 assist and only 1 turnover. the guy doesn’t look the part of a player but really controls the ball well and knows when and how to pass it. don’t think he’ll ever make it because of his size but he was very impressive.
matt stainbrook was the other guy that put up big numbers. he’s huge and when him and beejay anya banged, it looked like the stadium might start shaking from the 500-600 lbs banging around. stainbrook will probably never be in an nba uniform, but he looks the part of a left handed john bryant (a fan forum favorite…).

Sabdiego12345678Participanttj is just a scorer can light it up from anywhere one of the best players in the country. very inderrated athlete and defender. tj’s jumpshot is money from mid range and his problem from deep is his shot selection he is very capable from deep his form is unorthadoxed but it works and his floaters are excellent many people forget he is only a sophomore and is going to continue to develop.. his shot reminds me of kds in college but as a player remind me of paul pierce
the thing about ralston turner is he has a double clutch and hits his heels together druing his shot so he is very streaky and his defense is pretty bad but it has improved i dont think he will make it to the league
i think states best prospects outside of warren is "cat" barber incredible speed one of the fastest players ive ever seen great at driving but plays out of control at times and causes turnovers he still needs to learn how to play basketball he got by in high school by being an elite athlete and wasnt coached as well but he still shows flashes of brilliance on offense and defense he has big time potential. reminds me of a rondo ai mix he was sick last night which is why didnt see him much last night
also there is beejay anya huge wing span 7-9 to be exact which gives him enormous potential but he has to loose weight to be effective but if he does watch out i could see him leading the ncaa in blocks reminds be of ibaka
there is also kyle washington skilled lefty with big potential very athletic but doesnt have a soft touch and cant do anything with his right hand if he lears how to he can be very very good
and the thing about tyler lewis is hes just about as smart and as good of a passer as you can get but he lacks size and speed he would be the man at a smaller school but i think sometimes he strugles with confidence in his shot but when he does have it he can be very effective reminds me of steve nash but not as good ouside of passing
dez lee he has great athleticism vert over 40 big time scorer in juco but hasnt been able to produce the same yet at state
leenard freeman is a very hard worker good at rebounding and a great team player strugles scoring but is very young turned 18 on dec 10 reminds me of richard howell
Jordan vandenburg is 7-2 doesnt do much on the stat sheet but does alot for this team blocks shots alters them tips alot of rebounds has a good shot shoots over 60% from the floor has a future overseas i think hopefully in his home

juves4783Participantgood read. i really like this team in the future, even without warren. i liked the 3 freshman bigs. anya got in their and moved around people, looked like he had pretty good fundamentals and made a few nice outlet passes. washington has good size and looked like he had a decent all-around game. the kid freeman didn’t do much but he was pretty aggressive on offense. had a few shots that didn’t go down but the form and footwork looked pretty good.
looks like trevor lacey (formally of alabama) is transferring in too. i like lewis and barber looks like a stick of dynamite ready to explode. super quick. lee looks like a guy that will be better next year and turner may be the next big scorer after warren.
they looked good enough yesterday for me to change my bracket…

Sabdiego12345678Participantthank you and anya has good fundemntals but his biggest problem besides weight is he sometimes leaves his man to try and be the hero and get a block which often leads to him getting scored on or an offensive rebound.
freeman plays hard and gets rebounds had a really nice block last night but he was only a 3 star recruit in high school i think hes played much better than that he has great fundementals abut thats what you get when you play at oak hill.
lee i think is still getting used to d-1 its alot different than juco he averaged like 20 a game when he was at a juco and i love him and anyas energy
trevor lacey is a stud he looks really good in practice and in the pro am where he won mvp i think him and barber will replace alot of tjs scoring and i hope turner will contribute as well but i dont think he can be consistent without adjusting his shot and shot selection in the acc tourney he took some very bad shots.
state also has some very good freshman coming in in caleb and cody martin both are very sound but caleb is more developed they will be good 4 year players and then theres malik abdul abu who is a very strong and athletic college ready forward who looks to be very good… i think if tj stays but i doubt he will they would have a shot at top 25 next year
i think tyler’s minutes will start to diminish as barber matures and develops he looks like he has a shot at starting in the nba with his gifts but i think he will evetually take the majority of tylers minutes,.. but imagine if you put tylers vison and passing ability in cat he would be a top 5 pick
and as the team as a whole they have improved alot and far exceeded expectations because of tj hes a special player and state will go as far as he can take them
