nba players should freaking read this… they need to see the BIG picture.. not just some percetange points..
    http://espn.go.com/espn/commentary/story/_/id/7084176/where-do-nba-players-go-here

players want that 53% instead of owner’s 50%… that 3% is ~ 120 mil pel year.. if the deal is going to be a 6 or 7 year deal, they will gain 720-840 mil.. if the season is gone till jan, each team will miss roughly 30 games.. and that translates to around 750 mil.. WHATS THE POINT OF MAKING THE DEAL THEN IF YOU GOING TO LOSE IT NOW! … if the entire nba season is gone.. it doesnt even matter if its 53% or not anymore..

and im sick of players blaming the owners.. derek fisher tweeting "let us play"? then freaking make the deal..

its more then just the 50% that the 2 sides dont agree with. Stern listed about 7-8 things the two sides dont agree on. Plus rick brousard reported tonight that the nba owners are not offering 50%, that was just a rumor. They are still at 47% and wont budge above that.

The players need to remember that they play basketball for a living and make millions….If you’re going to rob not just me, but the arena staffs and surrounding businesses that rely on the existence of proffessional basketball (I live in sacramento) of the season just so you can make a little bit more money then fuck you. The players should have zero say in this in my opinion. I live off of 40,000 a year just fine and these kids get to play god damn basketball and make millions. makes me sick!

FOR REAL. The boss gets to call the shots in America; no clue why sports are any different. Peace out 2012 NBA season.

I think people need to read. It’s not just about the BRI split. There’s also issues involving the cap as well that they just can’t agree on. The players won’t nothing to do with a hard cap or anything that resembles one.

I don’t side with anyone, but I do think it’d be good for the game if the cap was tweaked. Contracts need to be shorter, which will benefit both teams and players in my opinion. As far as them being guaranteed or not, I think they should keep it the way it is. There are plenty of contracts out there where the last year is unguaranteed. Some exceptions need to be cut in amount and length, especially the MLE.

There are a lot of issues at hand here though, not just the BRI split. The players don’t want to agree to a bad deal and regardless of what Stern says, the owners haven’t made one concession. The players agreeing to drop four percentage points of the BRI split is the only concession that has been made in these discussions that I’ve heard of.

The owners want a double, triple and even quadruple luxury tax. I don’t know how I feel about that.

I also don’t know how I feel about the owners’ proposal that if a team is already paying luxury tax, they won’t be able to use bird rights to resign their own free-agents.

indianabasketball and llperez, i understand its not just the issue of BRI, but it has been said that the players care the MOST about BRI, and that is what the agents have told the superstars to focus on since this would guarantee both the players and agents money. multiple writers have said that the owner will most likely "cave in" on the BRI, and allow them to get the better deal in luxury tax, exceptions, and cap issue. i just believe the players have no clue what they are doing…

like what everyone said, what about all the other workers for the stadium, the league, or the team? they are all unemployed now… this is just madness.. these owners and players are selfish individuals…

as a recent grad with honors from a decent school, I am unemployed still… its hard to find a job nowadays.. and it just pisses me off reading these news…

There will be layoffs and work stoppage in the NBA (sh*t… the Miami Heat laid off the entire ticket sales staff after they re-signed Wade and signed LeBron and Bosh, and this was before the season started), but that’s what’s been going on all over the country for the last several years.

They’ll draw their unemployment and grind it out… And the good thing about it is a lot of them know they’ll be rehired once the league ends the lockout. A lot of people in America haven’t had that luxury.

Both sides are being stubborn. Neither side wants to concede much, but it’s clear somebody is going to have to concede something in order for a deal to get done. Who that will be? My guess is the players. The players are standing strong and are united, but how much can they afford to lose? Not every player has made Kobe, LeBron, Wade, etc money and has money coming in from endorsements like they do. And this money that the players will lose will never be able to be made back.

I just think the players will concede and we’ll all look back and think, "what the F did they waste all of this time for if they were just going to concede anyway?" The owners are dead set on getting either a hard cap or something that looks like a hard cap, and they’ve been wanting this for quite awhile. The players are going to have to meet them half way on it. These small market owners are tired of trying to keep up with the LA’s, NY’s, etc of the league who can afford to go way over the cap.

I don’t care how players get paid, how they deal with contracts in all aspects, and i certainly don’t care that the owners haven’t budged. In my mind they’re entitled to do whatever they want since it’s a league they created. All I care about is the product on the court, and right now I see no rationale behind this lockout. You can’t miss a season and still expect to make a greater profit on a new CBA, that’s simply contradictory to logic. Losing a years worth of revenue will sink any hopes of boosting sales, especially in a league driven by star power rather than teams. The players don’t appreciate what they have, it’s never enough.
