There been a report yesterday that the NBA going to look into an expansion after they redo the CBA. There were always hints in an expansion may have been on the horizon with how Adam Silver operates and how he wanted to clean things up in the CBA before going into an expansion. I’ve been speculating that it might happen because the NBA ratings are souring, more people are watching, and the fact that Adam Silver seem like he wants to branch the NBA out a little further.
It looks like there will only be two teams added to the NBA and the cities they are looking at are Pittsburg, Las Vegas, St. Louis, Seattle, Louiville, Omaha, Vancouver, and Mexico City. In my opinion, they should bring back the SuperSonics and give Pittsburg a basketball team if we are going based on fan reactions/die hard fans. But, I believe a logical thing, and if they want to rack in more money, is to put a second team in Chicago, I’m not for it. I know most would hate to see Chicago have a second team, me to, but if we talking about straight money, Chicago makes sence. Even though the Clippers sucked most of their time in LA, they still racked in big money. Same goes with Brooklyn. Chicago is the third biggest city and they can support two teams.
I’m in favor of giving Pittsburg and Seattle a team based on how great both cities fan bases are in other sports. What do you guy’s thing?

* Add British Colombia in the race too.
* Also, a deal should be announced after the CBA. And the expansion deal should be finished between December through the All Star break

  Just an FYI, you had already mentioned Vancouver, which is IN British Columbia. Assuming this is just an oversight as Vancouver is the only city in BC that could support a team financially.

Reinsdorf has way to much influence for another team to come into Chicago, He already has to deal with the Cubs killing his profits as the Chicago White Soxs owner.. He will pull all the stops to prevent that from happening to his Bulls..
Seattle should get the SuperSonics back and Las Vegas would be a complete cash cow.. The amount of tourism in that city alone would fund the team.. The NBA already has a huge presence in Vegas with Summer League and Olympics already operating.

  I agree with Vegas. That place is fun and a gold mine, with non-stop tourism even if the team sucks they will sell out every single game. On top of that they will probably make tourists & locals pay to watch the games on TV pay-per-view style. Let’s not even get started on the gambling that will occur over the games played there, both legal and not so much.
  Las Vegas is one of my favorite vacation spots, I’ve been there at least 15 times in my life. I don’t even gamble that much I just enjoy the atmosphere and there’s non-stop things to do even outside of casinos. I’d 100% go to an NBA game every time I was in Vegas.

Seattle for sure.
For the 2nd one, I’d be happy for Pittsburgh, Louisville or Nashville if any of them got it. My money would be on either Las Vegas or Anaheim though.
Mexico City wouldn’t shock me either. If not this round, most likely the next.

Why is Baltimore never in discussion for a basketball team? Perhaps there are political reasons why the city can’t get a team, but barring that possibility, I believe Baltimore has the building blocks for a successful franchise.
Rich basketball culture? Check. Baltimore produces more talent than pretty much any other American city outside of Chicago.
Affluent Fanbase? I would say, Check. A Baltimore team could attract fans from the outskirts of DC and Maryland as a whole which is full of rich people who can afford season tickets. Not to mention disillusioned Wizard fans.
Potential to take advantage of a municipal government by promising the canard of urban revitalization and job creation that comes with building a new sports arena using tax-payer dollars? Check.

  Baltimore would not make sence to have a basketball outside any of the potential suiters. They would need to have a arena, potential inverstors, and be able to make money. I find it hard to believe Baltimore would be able to attrack money like places like Seattle and another team in Chicago. They have to find potential suiters as well, they probably won’t find any because of the money that won’t be made there because of the Wizards and politically. That move will not make sence at all.
  They do send tons of good players here and there, but you have to look at it in terms of how much money can a team in Baltimore make than a team in Seattle. Las Vegas, Louiville, Chicago, and Vancouver/British Colombia. Highly unlikely.

  When it comes to hoops it’s hard enough trying to get people to get up for the Wizards. I’m not seeing a Baltimore Basketball team really being that successful business wise or market wise here. If anything they should re-brand the Wizards. Team is better and still it’s hard to get people on board with "Wizards". There arena is dead in the middle of train access, still low attendance. Putting an arena in Baltimore, I’m not seeing great success.

I would love to see both Seattle and Las Vegas get team because it would allow the Grizzlies and Pelicans to move back into the eastern conference. That conference needs their help and it always confused me that they in the western conference

seattle for sure. That is a no-brainer. Great fans who would like to not have to root for Portland. Seattle has a deep history of basketball love and fans there need their own team. As it is now they root for the Huskies and/or Blazers. The town hs plenty of cash and can afford to have a team. Not to mention that being on the Pacific rim, Seattle would prob be able to het a lot of Asian fans.
Mexico City is the other no-brainer. Great city, safe city, they love basketball and other than the Heat, Latin Americans don’t really identify with any particular NBA team. A team n Mexico City would be a game-changer for Mexican-American fans, Mexicans, and prob most of the rest of central and south America. Ratings would be crazy. Merchandise would be off the charts. A Mexico team would really crystallize the notion that basketball is truly a global sport.

Seattle would certainly be top of any expansion list, they have had the Sonics before, I believe that the investment is in place to build a new arena and the existing arena would be fine in the meantime.
The idea of a team in Las Vegas would be fun and it would pull in a lot of tourists and be a huge merchandise selling cash cow. Lots of visitors be they US or overseas might take in a game but I’m not sure what the permanent fanbase would be like. Also I could almost see the team being one filled with big name veterans who were almost being used as a drawing card. Players would be attracted to go there but would it be a good place to have a load of cash rich rookies I wonder.
As a British fan, I’m not fully converse with what other cities fan bases could be so I won’t comment on them.

Seattle, New Mexico and Las Vegas seem like great cities to start a franchise, I’d have to throw Kansas City or St . Luis Missouri into the 4th spot…
4 New Expansion teams allow the East and West to add 3 more Teams in the conference

Bring back the ABA Spirits of St. Louis. If you guys are diehard NBA fans (which I believe you guys are) I would suggest seeing the 30 for 30 Free Spirits documentary on Netflix. Now I don’t think that if St. Louis is rewarded an expansion team that the NBA would want the Silnas family involved due to their financial fights with the league but it would be cool for the Spirits to be back in St. Louis 40 some years later.

Add Seattle and Las Vegas. No brainer. Then go back to 2 divisions per conference. Pacific Division would be the 4 Cali teams plus Portland and Seattle. Las Vegas goes to the Southwest Division.
New Orleans and Memphis move to the East. The East gets a superstar in Anthony Davis along with a high level center in Marc Gasol.

  Only have to move one team east if two new ones are added to the West. If that was the case, I think moving Minny would work best since it has such a close proximity to so many East teams already.
  
  That said, I’m all for Seattle and Vegas but I’d like to see cities like Vancouver or Mexico City get considered. Getting more international teams wouldn’t be a bad thing.
